AWI- AlphaWorld Feature Vote, come on.

Jun 17, 2003, 3:22am
So you're saying that if you had built the largest city in alphaworld, and
it was still growing, you'd just abandon the whole thing for new features?

AWI- AlphaWorld Feature Vote, come on.

Thats what GET is for. And when everybody was exploiting the move/rotate
bugs in alphaworld...how many incidents of vandalism were there?

Have to agree with Goob on this one. And actually if you want to lessen the
harm done to old builds, then disable the browser referrer in AW, as that
renders images hosted on free services like tripod useless (And we all
wouldn't want a historical build turning into the world's biggest Tripod ad,
now wouldn't we?)

As for vandalism, I'll repeat myself, that's what the GET is there for.

Sounds like a good deal. I'd like another 80GB WD special though, so I can
buy a controller card and do RAID-0 :D

Too late, AWI went back into their ivory tower. And for [bleep]'s sake put
the feature vote online!

What is up with M A T T and his obsession with AW?

Jul 4, 2003, 4:49pm
Or tell the RIAA that he has a 40GB collection of MP3s and then they can
(ab)use their (il)legal right to hack his computer and fine sue him for
mucho dinero.

My rant...

Nov 5, 2003, 7:00pm
Well I think what we're just trying to say is that you should just *add* to
AW. Adding isn't really the same as changing what's there. If you add in
move and rotate, then all of a sudden old buildings aren't going to look
like (pardon my French) crap, like what happened back when the animate
command changed, along with those new textures. And personally to counter to
the "lot" of peope who don't want it changed, there are a "lot" who do. But
we're not asking you, E N Z O, to go through and totally wipe AWGZ and
rebuild it, or change the textures again, we (at least I, don't know about
the rest of the folks) just want some more things like the special commands
(move and rotate), a few more objects (that object submission program
actually would be a good idea, you know), and maybe AWI can make some
building contests in AlphaWorld. You've got enough room for them anyways :)
Just some stuff to liven the place up a bit.

But about AWGZ (this is going off-topic, my bad :P), I think what you should
do is propdump the existing one for prosperity's sake, and then change it
around to make it look more asthetically pleasing, and to also show off the
true potential of AlphaWorld. If I'm a tourist and I see the current open
brick space I'm just going to think of AlphaWorld as a place to chat, but if
I see a cool-looking building with all sorts of interactive, moving,
rotating things that looks really cool then I'll say "wow! this is neat!"
and register. Frankly I don't see waht the big fuss is with changing a GZ, I
mean, AWI changed AWGate to make it look better, in my city we change around
the town square to make it look better...change is just a part of life.

Or just make the skybox have a client-side option. That way AWI can neglect
changing the scenery of AlphaWorld all they want, the anti-change people
(for lack of a better term) can enjoy the sameness that has been with
AlphaWorld for years now, and everyone will be happy.

can build there.

And maybe you can try a winter night while we're at it ;)
Night time mode was pretty sweet, but maybe only darken the lights a little
so objects that are colored won't be horribly messed up.

CPU & AW

Apr 21, 2004, 2:36am
That should handle AW just nicely

Myself, I have an Athlon XP 2.3Ghz (its overclocked, dunno the "rating" for
that), gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9700 Pro, but AW seems to be more CPU/RAM
based than anything. The video card just lets you go through AW with extra
stuff like antialaising and anistropic filtering cranked up (which makes it
look 10x better, in my opinion).

CPU & AW

Actually, Comit had a T-bird, not a duron.

I had a P3 800Mhz system and my current 2.3Ghz system, and I ran AW with my
9700 pro in both, and in this system AW is smoother/faster as a whole.

Future Commands

May 5, 2004, 5:57pm
While it may not be a completely new command, I do recall hearing E N Z O
say that the move command will be updated to make avs move with moving
objects in 4.0....whenever the heck that comes out -_-

Captain MAD Mike: and add in something so that when an av is on a moving
object, it can move with it
E N Z O: yeah 4.0

New Objects

Sep 14, 2004, 9:30pm
Nothing a good EULA/disclaimer couldn't fix, right? Just like the P2P stuff,
AWI could say that they screen objects for decency but make no guarantee
that they're copyrighted or not. *shrug*

Alphaworld Wishlist Thread

All I really want is the cell data limit bumped up to "large." It won't make
the world suddenly unviewable for people with bad computers, and it would
really help with some of my more object-intensive builds.
