Trivial Request

Jul 22, 2003, 3:20am
Hi folks...

I know this is trivial and in all likelihood have no effect, but here's
hoping!

When some posters reply to posts, they put their response underneath the
previous post. Agent1, Bowen, Kah and TheMask are a few of those posters
that do this. This means that in a lot of cases you have to scroll the page
down to read what they wrote.

For me personally - I tend to spend just a second or two on getting a gist
of what the person wrote, to evaluate whether I want to go on to read all of
their post. If I can't get a gist of it in that time I'll move on to the
next post.

Could people try to keep their replies at the top of the post please?

Regards, Justin

Trivial Request

Jul 23, 2003, 4:09am
Okay - Generally speaking I like to follow stardard practice too, except
where it becomes antiquated or detrimental.

It would be nice if you could break USENET (n)etiquette for the AW
newsgroups, for the various reasons given by myself and others in this
thread, but if you still decide not to I will not debate the issue. Note
though if you do continue to bottom post I will not see any of your posts
where I have to scroll down to read it.

RWX text editor?

Aug 2, 2003, 2:44am
I use NoteTabLight - its free.

It does a fair bit of nice text editing and txt file minipulation.

I have created a script that runs with it that will zip, unzip, upload,
tidy, and insert all available commands, plus list all textures and a few
other tricks. It also has a dictionary of RWX terms.

Notetablight can be found on at http://www.notetab.com/download.php
You will need to email me for the script that goes with it along with
instructions.

The Lady fund

Aug 6, 2003, 3:22am
Agreed - I think her ideas are odd too for a VR chat software program.

But some of your teasing is getting too much - reminds me of schoolyard
bullies picking on the skinny kid or fat kid or the kid with a lisp. etc.

I've met her in passing a few times in AW and always found her to be
pleasant.

Please... knock off the personal attacks folks.

No flight sequences in AW?

If you have visited The Gate then the seqs you listed are in your local AW
cache.

Can we skate?

Oct 11, 2003, 6:38am
Use PP17 instead of PP01... PP17 are "bumpable" from only one direction.

Otherwise... what Crazy Pills said is about right. Although... I tend
to get my exact location by using the "Teleport/Remember" function... then
when you click on that in your teleport list you can copy out the co-ords
into your bump warp.

Regards, Justin

PS: I always thought the standard "whoosh" warp noise would be ideal for
ice skating?

My rant...

Nov 7, 2003, 3:02am
There are 3 things that come to mind immediately when thinking about
improvements for AlphaWorld:

1. Since the latest version most of the wait sequences are a shambles. A
lot of them hop in what use to be the middle of them and make them appear
jerky and way too repetative. In addition, none have the new "fly" "fall"
or "jump" sequences.

2. I believe special commands (rotate, move, and light) should be
implemented. This may result in an increase in vandalism, but this can be
resolved with more staff on the GET.

3. New generic objects - ones that can be used generally for multipurpose
building. I would gladly donate the beams I made
(http://www.jtechwebsystems.com/~broadway/freebies.html) plus volunteer to
make more (eg curved panels, walls and windows, cubes, spheres and
hemispheres).

Precise Movement vs Mouse Mode

Nov 14, 2003, 3:11am
FYI,

I spent a lot of useless time trying to resolve a problem and hope this tip
might save anyone from making the same mistake....

If you have the "Precise Movement" setting checked and are in "Mouse Move"
mode, pushing the mouse forward and back does not move your avatar forward
and back. This restriction is not detailed in the help file at
http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw34/move.html#2

I reported this to AW Support as a possible bug.

URGENT NEWS BULITEN FOR ENTIRE ACTIVE WORLDS COMMUNITY

Nov 25, 2003, 5:58am
This is a different problem and I did not actually find the cause - but I
did solve it using the Win XP restore function. I've had to use restore a
number of times to get rid of junk added on to my MSIE that I did not want
(or ask for).

New Version Update

Dec 5, 2003, 3:23am
Hi folks

I was wondering if anyone that is on the Alpha Testing team would like to
let us know how work on the next upgrade is going and what features we'll be
getting?

About the only thing I know of is the dockable windows.

New Version Update

Dec 6, 2003, 4:35am
Yeah I've seen that page... and it reminded me of the other new features
of the "invite" and /text commands. But there seems to have been nothing
happening since early Nov? I also figured (naively) that for so few new
features that the new version release would not take so long.

I didn't know the Alpha team were sworn to secrecy :o(

Picture size question...

Dec 6, 2003, 4:24am
sizes of pict objects in meters...

pict1.rwx 3w x 2.25h
pict2.rwx 2.25w x 2.25h
pict3.rwx 2.25w x 3h
pict4.rwx 1.5w x 1.15h
pict5.rwx 1.15w x 1.15h
pict6.rwx 1.15w x 1.5h

The minimum height or width to work with is 128 pixels. Using a
calculator...
128 / 1.15 X 1.5 = 167
So use a 167 pixel width 128 pixel height on a pict4

You can use the same on pict1, but that tends to get blurred. Doubling the
pixel dimensions gives a better result, i.e. 256 x 334 pixels.

These sizes should usually make for a jpg less than 20KB, which is not too
harsh a download.

Attn ENZO: Alpha World Improvements

Dec 6, 2003, 5:05am
Thanks for the Special Commands and the snow :o)

I was wondering if you could nudge along some other needed work for Alpha
World...

The avatars still don't have the special seqs... fly, hover, jump and fall
(the swim and float wouldn't apply because there is no terrain).

Also, every time I go to Alpha GZ I get these errors...

Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5end.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5walk.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5act1.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5wait.zip
(file not found)

Would be good to get those fixed.

WARNING TO EVERYONE, READ!! (CROSSPOSTED)

Dec 14, 2003, 4:08am
Having a registered cit, posting to the newsgroups is one form of
validation. Its illegal to create and distribute virus trojans etc. You
can place your trust in that person knowing that if they do something
illegal AWI can report that users details to police. There is also a degree
of being well known in AW. I newbie bot programmer is likely to have been
around AW for a while before getting into the SDK.

I'm glad things are going better for you. Unfortunately there will always
be people around who will forever hold a grudge and all you can do is ignore
them and move on.

As always your builds are spectacular!

And I agree, one easy identifiable nick would be good. I even think going
back to using Seiya would be cool (although I can't remember want the name
meant).

TheBeans Competition -- Castleville

Dec 28, 2003, 7:44am
Hi Folks

I just wanted to say thanks to BlueBean for holding TheBeans building
competition and to invite everyone to check out my entry "Castleville". I
put a lot of work into it, and you can either just check it out for what it
is, or try out the mini roleplaying game incorporated into it.

Go to TheBeans 110N 58E 1a 270

There's a web page to go along with it that you can see when you click the
drawbridge.

Although I won the competition, there are some other excellent builds worth
looking at. I especially liked Ferruccio's house entry at 107n 31e 1a 0

Seiya thoroughly deserved the Cy Award for the build - I have no
reservations about considering Seiya builds in Alpha the best there are and
that he is the best builder in Alpha world.

You criticised Seiyas build suggesting it was undeserving of the Cy it won.
It won as the best build in a public world - building in which as you say
"sucks". I would like to see what you consider is a better build in a
public world.

If you can't give something better, then I would suggest you owe Seiya an
apology.

Alpha World Object Yard

Feb 12, 2004, 10:36am
Hi Folks

After almost a 2 year delay - I finally got around to updating my object
yard with the objects added in Jan 2002. Its still very compact and has
lots of tips on objects. Worth a look and a different option to Lara's
wonderful yard.

AW 489.6S 385.7W 0.1a 180

Enjoy.... Justin

Flying Seqs added to Alphaworld

Feb 28, 2004, 2:15am
I sent the following email to support on 14th Feb, requesting "fly", but I
also asked for a lot of other missing stuff, so I don't think my email had
anything to do with it.... Maybe if some more sent the same email to
support they might attend to some of the other fixes/additions I requested?
~ Justin
--------------------------------------
Hi Support

I'm sure you are aware of this but it it would be good it some fixes were
made for Alpha World

Whenever I go to AW GZ I get these warnings:

Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5end.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5walk.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5act1.zip
(file not found)
Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/sp5wait.zip
(file not found)

and I get this whenever there is a bike avatar around:

Warning: unable to download objects.activeworlds.com/aw/seqs/bd.zip (file
not found)

Also, I've noted the following objects are on the path but are missing in
the register:

edge45b18.rwx edge45b22.rwx edge45c9.rwx edge45c10.rwx
edge45c12.rwx edge45c14.rwx edge45c16.rwx edge45c18.rwx
edge45c20.rwx edge45c22.rwx

Finally, it would be nice if the Alpha avatars could be updated to have the
special "fly hover jump fall" seqs. I guess swim and float would not apply
unless terrain is planned at some future time.

Thanks, Justin

Sprite program

Apr 7, 2004, 6:31am
Sharon....

Unzip a standard sprite about the size you want. Open the rwx file in
NotePad. Change the names of the Texture and Mask to those that you want to
use. Resize it if necessary (either edit the vertexes, or use a scale
command). Rename the rwx file. Zip it. Upload it. And you're done.

Can we be silent in our Community?

May 8, 2004, 12:23am
Sharon

I have spoken with Seiya a few times, both in his old "female" identity and
his "real" one. His old identity was one he created because of low self
esteem and wanting to make friends the "easy" way as a pretty young lady.
Granted it was a lie, and not wanting to loose friends he carried the lie
too far. In confusion trying to defend himself he then attacked people
harshly. He apologized for that.

Since he revealed his true identity some people have continued to attack him
and on occasions he has attacked back harshly again. Those same people have
given this as an example of him not having changed.

All I see is a person that made some bad mistakes and is over emotional. He
may have some other character flaws, but don't we all? If people can't
forgive his mistakes - fine - then don't talk to him. But continuing to
bring it up, not leaving it in the past, and not allowing him to go on to do
good things with his remarkable building talent is cruel.
