I've had this happen with AW too, and only AW ... I noticed that I can see
MS Media Player (when it's in video mode playing streaming video) ... I can
see the MS Media screen *through* the AW screen even tho the AW screen is in
the forefront and the MS Media is in the background. I can rectify the
problem by minimizing the MS Media window ... but that's by no means a cure.
This has only been happening since the last upgrade or two in 3.6 ...
perhaps it needs to be submitted to chrispeg as a bug?
My monitor is a Sceptre x7 (17" flat screen), but that hasn't changed since
this occurance began happening ... what has changed is that I've got a new
graphics card ... an ATI All-in-wonder 9800 series.

1) I was in a 2D chat called Palace (and yes, Palace DOES still exist LOL)
when *a gal* came to visit, told me of 3D *virtual worlds* and all about aw
.... I wasn't overly interested at first, but after a day or two of her
telling me about it I gave it a try.
2) She lent me a spare cit she had, for a whole week! I had been a visitor
for 2 weeks already but really wasn't interested in what my limited
sightings were showing me as I didn't really connect how I could do all I
could do as a tourist ... only with her cit could I really see the potential
for me personally. I thank her for that :o}
3) I was a tourist one week, a cit one week ... after my experience as a cit
for one week I was thoroughly hooked and paid for my own at that time. I've
not *expired* yet ... been a cit since May 7, 2003.
4) For me, it's the avatars first and foremost ... they represent me on the
screen ... and if I don't look good well whatz the point? LOL
5) I've created builds, most of what I learned in the beginning I attribute
to the birthday building clan, it's a great way to learn what you can do and
how creative you can be with primitive objects ... I say primitive because
AW cannot really take any objects of substantial filesize or polys and most
of the objects one learns to build with are already several years old. Three
weeks after becoming a cit I had been playing bingo, won my own sample world
(P20) and when it was about to expire two months later I was already hooked
on that, I still have it ... it's now a P30 and the world is Aeon. My most
recent passion is bot programming in C++. I figured if I gotta learn scripts
*for bots* why not just get the programming code down and do my own LOL. I
have had some past experience with programming so *I can do it* :o}Oh and I
make my own avs now too.
6) Hmmm I'd have to say making avs, programming bots, building for gifts or
my world and it's fun to get together with a community of people like for
parties, etc.

SDK Rule #1 ~ Thou shalt NOT offer yourself for an helper to the newbie
programmer LOL I just *might* take you up on it as I have at least two
others so far hehehe
Thanks tho, I'll keep anyone in mind who's willing to help me learn, I catch
on to coding stuff easily once I understand what code goes where. I have
experience with HTML and PHP, as well as python so I'm not new to doing
stuff from scratch ... I am lazy however, tis why it's taken me three years
to *get to it* LOL.

No worries hun, you wouldn't be the first LOL, take note of how many other
cit lurkers there are! BTW tourists can't see the whisper box in AWGate so
they wouldn't know you were there if you hang out just out of sight ... the
globe is a good spot, you are nearby but can't be seen (can see out tho
:o}), only cits would know you are there but most even if they say hi and
you don't answer don't give it much thought.
Be who you are, use your cit, you paid for it ... just hang out and lurk,
tis your perogative, many others do! :o}

OLD windoze and 4.1 install suggestions ... SAVE THIS POST (make a Keepers
folder in your email progy and drag it there)!!!
If you are running an older version of Windoze and AW 4.1 doesn't seem to
work for you, I'd suggest you *try* the following ...
1) d/l the AW 4.1 browser to your desktop (or somewhere where you can easily
find it)
2) install it to a *NEW* folder, do NOT overwrite your existing AW folder
3) after the install, you should see the aworld.exe icon on your desktop
First TRY IT AS IS and ... ONLY ... do this if AW is not running
properly from the fresh install:
a) right click on the 4.1 aworld.exe desktop icon
b) in the resulting menu click on Properties
c) click the Compatibility tab
d) click the checkbox "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and
then
pick (from the drop down menu) your version of windoze
e) click the Apply, and then the OK buttons
Nothing else on that menu needs to be checked. You should be good to go :o}
Again, don't do steps a-e unless you really have to, why fix it if it ain't
broke right? Good luck to those of you running older windoze!

Yer able to get in Color?
Just write down your contacts, or screen cap them in a graphics program and
save as jpgs or something. But the whole idea of a new contacts is better
privacy for each user. Say you don't want to be on someone's contact list,
you now have that option to refuse. It's also something you enable/disable
in your user Settings so the choice to use it or not is up to individuals.
Hope to *see ya* soon!

It's apparently the video driver (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800), the
driver I installed was from the CD, not any update since, manly because I
can't really tell what the *new driver* is!? Apparently neither ATI nor MS
knows what is causing the crashing ...

Rather than manually telling it to start I'd like to be able to have the
server autorestart if it's disconnected ... any way to do that? For
instance, we run three worlds, I have the server and so does sista and we
have all three worlds listed on each of our servers. But say hers being the
primary server goes off ... any way for mine to detect the worlds aren't
running and autostart them? This would be great, that way if for some reason
her server stops (say due to a dropped internet connection) my server will
pick the worlds up!
