OLD windoze and 4.1 install suggestions ... SAVE THIS POST (make a Keepers
folder in your email progy and drag it there)!!!

If you are running an older version of Windoze and AW 4.1 doesn't seem to
work for you, I'd suggest you *try* the following ...

1) d/l the AW 4.1 browser to your desktop (or somewhere where you can easily
find it)
2) install it to a *NEW* folder, do NOT overwrite your existing AW folder
3) after the install, you should see the aworld.exe icon on your desktop
First TRY IT AS IS and ... ONLY ... do this if AW is not running
properly from the fresh install:
a) right click on the 4.1 aworld.exe desktop icon
b) in the resulting menu click on Properties
c) click the Compatibility tab
d) click the checkbox "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and
then
pick (from the drop down menu) your version of windoze
e) click the Apply, and then the OK buttons

Nothing else on that menu needs to be checked. You should be good to go :o}

Again, don't do steps a-e unless you really have to, why fix it if it ain't
broke right? Good luck to those of you running older windoze!

Umm... the compatibility mode thing is in XP only.

It's there so you can run pre-XP programs on XP, not the other way
around (it's not there on 95/98/ME anyways).

Yes, like deltaphc just said, XP only lets you use programs made before XP
came out using the compatibility mode. 4.1 has technology that 95 doesn't
know about. The System Requirements page is at:

[View Quote] Err that is exactly the same as the system requirements for AW 3.6?
Windows 95 was dropped from that list years ago,
but apparently it still has worked for some.
Well, we'll see when 4.1 comes out.

*poke* No worries.. I think the Win95'rs of the world will survive
somehow... even the Win3.1'rs are still doing their thing... only they know
why tho! :)

As an odd note, back in the early Mac days(what we call Mac Classics now)
there was some really awesome graphics and desktop publishing softwares that
even todays WinXP and OSX softwares have not duplicated. Why is that? :)
There is even some awesome DOS graphics programs that neither has duplicate
either.... I really don't get it.
