Andras 4th Annual EggHunt in Storage world!Apr 13, 2001, 5:04pm
<shameless plug>
Storage World has it's 4th Annual EggHunt coming up! When? Saturday, the 14th of April, 2001... The hunt will run for 24 hours... Starting at 3:01am VRT Saturday, April 14th (12:01am EDT) and ending at 3:01am VRT Sunday, April 15th... (12:01am EST). Storage world will close for a short while just before the hunt begins then reopen at the start of the hunt... Where? Storage World --- Scroll down the Worlds list on the left of your screen till you find the name, Storage, then click on the green ball in front of it... Prizes? 1st Prize is a P10/10 world for a year and a one-year's citizenship along with hosting for the world from Andras... 2nd Prize is a P10/5 world and citizenship for a year from AWCI with world hosting from Andras... 3rd Prize is a 20 X 20 corner of Storage world with your choice of modular ground... (Sorry, but only registered citizens are elegible for this prize.) 4th Prize is a one year citizenship (or extension) from Andras... 5th Prize is a one year citizenship (or extension) from Daphne... 6th and 7th Prizes are AW T-shirts from AWCI... 8th and 9th Prizes are Public Speaker (BOLD) privs in Storage world for 2 weeks... Rules? Eggs will be hidden all over the built in areas of Storage World... That means from 50n to 50s and from 50e to 50w and also in our new building area from 50s to 100s and 100e to 100w... For the eggs you find to count for you, left click on each egg you find... The bots in the world will keep track of each hunter's tally... If you are a tourist and lose your connection during the time you are hunting, you must log in to ActiveWorlds with the same name after you reconnect... If you don't use the same name, the hunt bots will see you as a different hunter and your previously found eggs won't count towards the tally now being kept under your new name... You will not be able to claim two names!!! A citizen is, of course, expected to hunt only under one citizen account name and number for the same reason as above... NO...you can't win more than one prize... One prize per user... NO current citizen should come in as "Tourist" in order to get a second account... This prize is for those that are not current citizens... We want to do our share to see the AW user base grow... :o) No team entries will be accepted... Single entrys only... One tally count per person... See above for for instructions on how to keep your tally under one name only... </shameless plug> I hope everyone will have fun! Andras P.S. Hi,
I started to make a webpage describing how to run AW and/or the world server behind routers or firewall. Experiences, descriptions, comments are welcome - criticism will go to the bitbucket. I would be pleased if some more experienced HTML guru would revise/rewrite the page <hint hint> Andras http://andras.net/router_aw/router_aw.html AW behind firewall or NAT based routersApr 17, 2001, 12:36pm

Try to adjust your screen refresh frequency (within the display settings). Some monitor can't use the higher rez's default settings.

I wouldn't call Sexy Eyes a newbie:) She is in AW much longer than any of those kids!
OTOH I would question if crossposting was a good idea since the topic belongs to the community group. And those whiners - they did not even check the crosspost - just tried to be "trigger happy". Andras [View Quote] Posting in HTMLMay 19, 2001, 10:09am

The picture itself doesn't - it is true but knowing the "nice features" of Windows/OE - you can have an attachments called nicepicture.jpg.vbs where the vbs extension will be hidden so the recipient will try to open it thinking it is a picture. (Remember the Anna Kurnikova(sp) virus?)
> > > Any attachment would infalte the posting to 48k, while HTML would not, unless > it contains images, which you could count as attachments. Disagree again - several newsreader posts the message in both HTML and ASCII (take a look for example Sexy Eye's recent post - 29 lines inflated to 129 lines!) > > > I really question this statement. Its not the business of the ISP to filter out HTML. I agree with this one. It is hard to believe that an ISP is doing "content" filtering. Yes - if they replicate a newsgroup - they can filter it, but the straight access can't be touched. Andras Old reviewMay 19, 2001, 5:02pm

Wow!! that is a long story. To make it short:
I got the URL in '95 from a friend together with the SnowCrash book. I read the book first (at that time literature was more important than the computer for me!) The book caught me well (I'm still reading it here and there to absorb new aspects of the story) so I gave a try of the program itself, I became hooked on the spot and since then I'm and active user of AW. I did not build for a while until Moria offered land in his world for lease. I built two buildings there (and one is AW ) and never again :) I bougth my the first personal world (called Storage) after the COF takeover. (I was waiting for Worlds, Inc to sell it to me but they just .... up). As far as I know my world was in the first few personal worlds. It is still up and active. As time went by I learned in a hard way that the virtual environment can be a VERY addictive one! Thanks to Daphne and Moria I'm still alive and here:) As few of you already know - I don't build but I make tools for everyone. I just wish the day would have 48 hours or more so I can do what I wish for the community! That is my story in a nutshell, Andras DSL is great! Posters in AW suck!May 25, 2001, 4:48pm

There is no such thing that "unaothorized" posters. If it is violating the charter (what I doubt) - report it to the authorities otherwise just live with it. Everyone can build there wherever it is allowed.

I got the same scenario yesterday tho I have fixed IP. We experimented a little: I could world hop, I could chat, I could build (I did not try TG) but I tried file transfer. Wierd result :) My opponent got a request from a tourist for file transfer, she confirmed it. I never got a response (xxx did not respond to your request) and she got a "Can't read file" error :)

And where the hell did you get this info? Don't spread false roumors if you are not sure. The heartbeat's frequency is one minute and Uniserver's timeout is set accordingly. This is the obvious case when you change IP you can't log in for about two minutes because the uniserver believes you are still logged in!
