Its Here!!!!!! // CommunitygamerApr 27, 2001, 6:05pm
At last after weeks of work, the Active Worlds Objects and Avatars Databse
is here...right now we're still working on the Search option, but the most of it is up and running! : ) www.active-worlds.co.uk/resource NOTE: If any of your work is on our site PLEASE e-mail us so we can credit you for your work. Also if you would like us to remove your work, fair enough : ) the address is mailto:robbie at active-worlds.co.uk -Gamer gamerApr 27, 2001, 6:06pm
ps. THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNKYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU Azazael for
all of your exellent work towards the site :o))) ananasApr 27, 2001, 6:11pm
um - did you test it?
There is no tree to the left and by clicking "resource" a second time you get the whole page in the lower left frame again. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ ananasApr 27, 2001, 6:14pm
another hint, if you want to use JavaScript you should check
if it is enabled and have at least a message for this case, I receive a blank page on your domain root. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ azazaelApr 28, 2001, 5:12am

That's a fair comment Ananas, the tree is all generated server side so I
could easily produce a plain HTML output without any additional burden on the administration team. Site statistics indicated less than 1% of visitors had no support for Javascript, I thought it was a safe bet to go the Javascript only route. There's always one :0) Thanks again Az [View Quote] ananasApr 28, 2001, 9:08am
I prefer server sided stuff. JS can do too many things I
don't want to have, like opening popups, onexit events and things like that. And too many security holes in JS in the past, I seldom enable it, only when it's a on site that I really need to visit. It's not paranoia, I just don't like web sites to decide what my browser does. Paranoia comes only into play when a site works only with IE ;) [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ fyreneApr 28, 2001, 10:27am
Lots of authors unknown. All of them in fact:
Old bench, old hut, throne by Styxx Baskets, Draftmans set, Lanterns by Lady Murasaki Proxima Avas by Someone (aka Charlie from 3D from Nowhere) Exterior and Interior lights and glass arch by Asterisk Man (Someone/Charlies son) Airport set, Basilica set, Church set, wagon, birdcage, pyramid by Dachs Authors easily found from links on Objects D'Activeworlds links to free objects. I didn't find one object that wasn't on someone elses free page. Not saying
there isn't one there, just that I didn't find one. Most of these are objects provided by the origional creator. Looks like they are on your site directly, not a link to their site where they are given for free. Wanted to ask if you got permission from them to add their objects & images to your site? It's better to have the permission first than say you'll remove the objects later if asked to. It will save you a lot of hassles if you do. Most citizens create and give away free objects to promote themselves and direct traffic to their own site. That's why many of these objects aren't directly on the Object d'AW site but are under the links section. Overall, it's a great idea esp if you get all of the permissions & a search engine going. Nice approach indeed!
Would you make the pop-up browser window for viewing the object "not fixed size" please? Andras |
