Stats and other things that developers can find interesting to know will be added soon, the site will be continuously improved upon. To use an external link as the file, just provide the page as the mirror (and be sure to tell us in your comment) and our download handler will automatically redirect users to whatever URL was provided as mirror, provided that the mirror is available and is returning a valid success HTTP response code (200, or 302 in the case of a redirection). We would prefer it that you mirror a copy of the file you uploaded to our server, though. I think we need a "bot homepage" field :-)) KAH anyone treid this bot before?Nov 17, 2002, 12:58pm

The HamBot is compiled for the SDK build 15. Could someone with VC++ please recompile it for build 24? I can provide the GPL sourcecode. Developer note: This is valid for all bots using old SDK builds, so if you wrote a bot long ago (or perhaps not so long ago? not sure where the limit is) you might want to recompile it... More can be read at > news://news.andras.net/AW.VillageBeta newsgroup under the thread: > [demeter] Security problem . I can confirm that this warning is nothing but a HOAX. I had my packet sniffer check what it did, and it only sends a HTTP/1.0 GET request for /current.txt to www.shoemakervillage.org. This is the exact query: GET /current.txt HTTP/1.0 User-Agent: tlsNet.HTTP Accept: */* this means that it sends a GET request to see the current.txt file in the document root of the server. It sends two headers, one specifying what client sent it (in this case I believe it's an ActiveX control from Microsoft), and what kind of documents it accepts (in this case, any). There is absolutely no information about you or your system in this request (off course, the server will get your IP address, but so does any other server or peer you connect to), except that one can deduce that you've (probably) used one of Brant's bots (the current.txt file is an INI-formatted file containing file locations for Brant's various bots). Please do not take this HOAX seriously, and do not let it ruin a serious programmer's reputation. Andras, with respect, this is total bullshit. A documented update-finding feature that doesn't transmit any information about the end-user or it's system does not qualify as spyware. I would be carefull about making such false accusations in the future, you never know when you might encounter someone keen on sueing you... KAH [release] Demeter 1.18Jan 11, 2003, 5:43pm

That is, people interested in using bots and people who develop bots. I'd appreciate it if you visited the site, had a look around there and told me what you think is good, what's not so good, what should be added. Mail suggestions to me (kah at kahnews.cjb.net) or reply to this post. I appreciate all input, thanks in advance :-)) KAH Suggestions for bot site featuresMar 8, 2003, 1:08pm

Think he meant something like the browser sends a message to the world server, which then sends it on to bots subscribed for that event if it collides. Of course, as Joeman said, that'll overload any bot with just a few persons in range. On the other hand, if you only sent it for objects with a special flag enabled, it might work. The amount of these events would need to be throttled down, as getting it between 5 and 100 times a second would still be very high load. Hi, I'm just informing that by request, I'm releasing the source code of my
advanced PhoneBot. It's under the terms of the GNU GPL, which means you get the freedom to use and develop it, while I still get credit for it.
