Something like what the AlphaWorld map was?

BMP-to-Demeter

Brant,

[View Quote] They want something that will read a [greyscale] bitmap and then appropriately deal with it-- either converting it to elevdump or uploading to world. AFAIK, Xelagot doesn't do this.

[View Quote] Actually, now that I read the original post, starfleet wants a utility that will read the bitmap and create a propdump of terrain.rwx objects that some other bot like the Xelagot would load.

Object Paths

Jul 8, 2003, 3:47am
Slight security danger in having the user:password at server flying across the net in plaintext with this method... it's exposed [to builders] as soon as someone makes a typo in the object model field (or during "create texture").

Console Messages

Jul 10, 2003, 2:02am
As long as the browser does not display the console message's sender, this change is acceptable (and I actually agree). Changing them to show their source in the Chat History would break a lot of existing bots.

Some way of tracking the source is desirable.

Console Messages

It is possible to right-click a console message if it is in the format "AnExistingName:\tText", where '\t' represents a tab (Chr(9)).

[View Quote] > Quite simple you cant right click consoles only real citizens chat text. (As ong as its not a world with hide chat)

Console Messages

Jul 10, 2003, 6:20am
The browser seems to be unable to distinguish between a real chat line and a 'fake' one from a console message. When it's able to make that difference, what you suggested would be a good idea.

Plug-Ins

Jul 18, 2003, 6:16am
If a plugin system is created, it should offer the ability to be disabled, and be disabled by default (i.e., a clean install). Restricting what it does are also required security options :)

[View Quote] > Hey, what y'all think about having the ability to write plug-in programs on the menu say under the Options | spacer under Universe | Plug-Ins | your program,,,this way could write scripts and things to help customize the browser at the user level. I can see AWI shaking their heads lol.

create texture url

Jul 24, 2003, 5:27pm
Translation below.

[View Quote] "Nope; not what I want. 'Create picture' only works on 'picture' objects; I want it to be able to allow textures. I can't take a 'pp01.rwx' and do 'create picture [URL]'. If they enabled 'create texture [URL]', I'd be a happy man :-)"

AW Building Inspector

Aug 9, 2003, 4:11am
When an object is "changed", the AW browser (and the SDK, too) first tries to add the new object, and then delete the old. In a sense, you ARE trying to build a new object. This obviously needs to be reversed -- delete first, and then add it back.

WISH - Universe Teleporting Abilities

.... How? Universes don't have names. The contacts list problem is already solved since 3.3.

the 8 Light limits - bug or feature?

Sep 2, 2003, 8:20pm
As far as I know, it's always been a RenderWare-imposed limitation.

[View Quote] > If your in directX rendering mode, you may have noticed you can only render 8 lights at any given time. If you switch to OpenGL, you can see all the lights in the area. Anyway, if I recall, the 8 light limit wasn't always there (the earlier versions of AW). So what's up? Is it a directX problem? An AW problem? Is it supose to be like this for lag (in which case it should be a client setting)? All I know is that I hate it, because any area of town that's even slightly dense will run into this problem. If anything, it should at least only render the closest lights. I can be in a room with a light, and not see it, but then I lower my vis from 170 to 150 and I can see it...It's also a vandal problem, as some clown could pop in 20 lights so the area couldn't have anymore.

I released a bot some time ago that allows one to have such a system in their world.

Shadows AGAIN !

Jan 8, 2004, 5:25am
WorldsPlayer (worlds.com) uses an old version of RenderWare, and it's capable rendering a mirror. It's not a bot trick, or any special object arrangement -- it is a full-blown mirror that behaves just like its real-life couterpart. If Worlds can do this with an ancient version of RW, certainly AW can do it with RW 3+...

[View Quote] > oo.. and mirrors/reflections would be nice too, but i know its already been wished, but we need them.

It's exactly what she's talking about :P

I must once again point out, anarkissed, you have never once contacted me about your troubles with the CRB since you emailed me in November (those problems were resolved by upgrading).

Different fonts for signs...

Unless the browser parses the TTF file and renders the font itself, you have to have it installed to make Windows recognize it.

Different fonts for signs...

Mar 21, 2004, 10:13pm
This is the only viable solution; if the browser just installed fonts in Windows, you'll eventually run into this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;131943

This may enlighten you as to why it's not happening anytime soon: http://www.activeworlds.com/roland/features/increase_cell_limit.html

In short: "The biggest obstacle right now to increasing the maximum cell data limit is the current design of the property protocol between the browser and world server."

This already happens -- when it's a forced update, "Skip" is disabled (or invisible?) in this dialog.

[View Quote] > Good idea; I'd also add if its a recommended version to force to update. :)
