Jeez that sucks! And surprised! I've always known Tom (Flagg) as one who
comes through with stuff like that. I'll send him a nudge by gram anyways. Maybe AWComm can make up for the damage down. Regards, Justin [View Quote] A little thingy :)Apr 28, 2000, 1:17am
so post the jpg here... so long as its not incredibly huge... I'd

Hi all,
Rick Noll has just confirmed the new objects are now added to Alpha. Thanks all who gave their support with emails and such. Note we won't get use of them until Roland takes down the server and restarts it. Rick did not say when that will happen. Regards, Justin New Objects for Alpha - ThanksMay 7, 2000, 9:49am

I have set up all the objects in summary, plus demonstrations on how the triangle objects work together in my condensed building yard (arguably the best building yard for advanced builders in Alpha) at AW 489.6S 385.7W 0.1a 180 Unfortunately there are a few errors that have crept in, TZ and I are aware that AWComm did a little bit of editing here and there that has upset a few objects, and these now need fixing. These include some WK objects having their center point moved (making them extremely difficult to build with), the walk000 and floor00 display pictures back to front, and new textures wood7 and wood8 aren't loaded up for the boards, units, and cylinders. There are also a few objects that for some reason never got added, but nothing to weep tears over. Something worth reminding everyone, pp01s2.rwx and pp15s1.rwx both take pics in the "lit" mode, which means for you creative folks out there... you can download a texture from AWcomm... then draw something onto it of your own skill... then merge those objects into a wall of your building. eg... it will be very easy to put a rupture/crack in any wall now... or a film strip spider running up and down the wall :o) maybe we should run a competition on wall ideas! This should be obvious, but button_2 takes the sign command, and the new doors take the picture command. Lara's yard has a multitude of pictures of doors. And last but not least... I hope you will all use those walk000 and floor00 with animates or pics for your swimming pools, spas, lakes, etc. Have fun!! Best wishes, Justin [View Quote] New Objects for Alpha - ThanksMay 8, 2000, 7:37pm
Do I understand this right??
Are you saying that any object added to any world running a registry must be centered around its most central point? Justin [View Quote] New Objects for Alpha - ThanksMay 9, 2000, 11:47am
ENZO is looking into the "wk" and "wl" triangle objects that are 60 + 60 +
60 degree corners. TZ built them so he will liaise with ENZO about what to do and what can be fixed. Otherwise we'll just have to scrap the 20 objects it effects. Another bug has been realised, and that is the underside of all wk and walk objects should be "texturemode lit" but they are not. What this means is that they are exceedingly bright when put up against any existing walk or floor AND you use animate command on them both. Hopefully this will be fixed soon too. And one day ENZO will get around to adding wood7 and 8 textures that belong to the cyl, board and unit objects. He said he would a couple times now. So, in summary, there are fixes to be done to wk, wl and walk objects, and in worse case scenario some of these will be removed. Everything else is fine. The new triangle objects now turn on an edge axis as originally planned.
And the new wood textures are up. :o) You will need to reload your Alpha cache. Justin New ObjectsMay 13, 2000, 10:27am
Eep...
TZ made the glass, I don't know why he put the texture in. Maybe to make it easier to see how it was placed and to give it some sort of depth? It hasn't bothered me enough to complain about, in fact it sorta makes sense considering what other objects are available. 1. you can always color or texture it with action commands 2. if you only want a plain grey you can use the pp17 objects instead Regards, Justin [View Quote] Fake CysMay 16, 2000, 11:40am
If the Cy objects are copywritten then no-one can use them without the
expressed permission of the creator or the persons authorised by the creator to give their permission. This would also cover copies or objects made with the intention of being like the Cy objects. I'm sure Axoidz will be brought into line in very short order and the integrity of the Cy Awards be maintained. :o) If nothing happens within a week contact AlphaBit Phalpha (Cy Awards committee) and LadyJude (WAG) and I'm sure they will handle it. Regards, Justin [View Quote] Good news - AW in the blackMay 18, 2000, 11:09am
Would any accountants out there like to explain this in English for me?
All I can do is guess, but looks to me like their income is up by so much because AWCI sold shares? Thats not what I would call income. And the $.003 earnings per share figure - what is that? Its certainly not a dividend is it? Is it the value of the company as a whole? I only hope that AWCI truely make big net profits, so that they can employ more workers, some of which are programmers and service consultants, which results in a better Active Worlds and better service. Regards, Justin [View Quote] a few thoughts....May 25, 2000, 10:50pm
OMG I'm sinking to the depths of replying to pointless threads! Forgive me
but I just couldn't resist *evil grin* For all the uninformed, Eep is actually the Building Inspector let lose by AWCI. You remember the BI... he's the one that ya hate so much, but if he weren't there everything would be such a mess no-one could live! I like the bomb idea best :o)
But failing that - you Bit talking to the world owner and others visiting the offending world and talking to the world owner seems like the best option. If they still don't remove the Cy (are there any being abused now?) then perhaps a Cy Committee member could delete it for them? Don't AWCI staff (who are on the committee) have ED in all worlds? I think at that stage the naughty world owner would really get the message its not okay. Regards, Justin [View Quote] Fake Cy's Must Be Stopped!May 27, 2000, 9:42pm
[View Quote]
Hmmm, did I start this rumour? I think yes but only because someone did
not read what I typed! I said "Don't AWCI staff (who are on the committee) have ED in all worlds?" Now admittedly I gave myself a wrong impression from visiting the Cy Award web page http://www.awcommunity.org/cyawards/ because when I saw that page the following names appeared in bright big bold lettering: E N Z O, Cryonics, Lucrezia Borgia, Chloe, and AlphaBit Phalpha. I mistakenly believed this was some sort of core committee rather than simply a thanks and recognition of those people. So AWCI staff who logically would have ED rights I presumed made up the bulk of the core committee. In the end only ONE AWCI staff member is on the Cy Award committee, and that is Lu. So, do I really want Lu to go around to any bad boy world owners that use the Cy Award object in way that is not its intended purpose? No I do not! What I would like to see is for Raven Shadow to stand up for copyright on his objects and the people so authorised to act on his behalf in stopping any infringements to do their job. I would also suggest some better marking of special objects so that no confusion can be made. i.e. where an object yard does display a special object that an appropriate sign is there stating that its use is restricted and that it may only be used with special permission. I think kellee might be able to help with this. Regards, Justin Quick PollMay 27, 2000, 9:42pm

AWCI (I was told Cryonics, but maybe it was Young Shamus) decided to switch all the textures in Alpha over to the hi rez CD textures. This makes sense considering that the new AW version takes advantage of these higher definition textures. As it happens, the old textures are all still there intact under a renamed folder. All up though, there are very few textures that have changed significantly in their color or look - most noticable are brick, stone12, stone15, watf1, and to a lesser degree the trees. In the end I would much prefer the high resoultion textures, and for situations where an old texture would look better I can use an action line command to get that. I'd love to take up the challenge - but the darn thing is never on line when

"Tal So-And-So" is the Gorean greeting used when addressing other Masters
and Mistresses or "free" people. It does not apply when greeting a slave... in which case the word used is "Greetings so-and-so". They way their bots figure out whether to greet with "Tal" or "Greetings" is by whether your nick is capitalised or not. Slaves most use a lower case letter to begin their nick. There is no short explanation about Gorean lifestyle... it takes a while to understand it, longer to get use to it, and even longer to figure out whether its good to be part of or not. The downside of that is for some people who lack control skills and are easily led - they may find themselves in situations that they do not want to be part of with no way to get themselves out. In this respect, it is very much "cult-like". Procede with much caution. And if you do get involved, be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride. Regards, Justin [View Quote] What's up with all the Gor worlds?Jun 12, 2000, 4:33am
Gor is far more prevelant on IRC than AW.
As I said before on this issue, Gorean roleplay and/or lifestyle is fine for adults provided they know how and when to click the little black "x" in the top right corner. I, like most, grieve and are shocked about the death of faithh - but Gor did not kill her. An insane murderer killed her. For many the Gorean way is their only escape to balance out their unbalanced lives. Corporate directors in the real world can come be a virtual slave to relieve their stress. Those with no position or no control in real life can go to a Gor world and become a Master or Mistress. Personally I have found that the Gorean community to be the most closely knit and friendly of all of the AW communities. If nothing else, it is an interesting adventure into human behaviour. I am not involved in their community because I prefer to do other things, and also do not agree with some things about it. My greatest disagreement is that those wishing to be "slaves" cannot "unslave" themselves without their Master's permission, and there is no enforcable appeal system. When going to meet a person in real life that they met on the net, you should take the minimal precaution of telling someone about it, and suggest the other do the same. Better still, just don't meet. Eep, to run an arguement of banning Gorean worlds because of one user's death would be similar to running an arguement of banning "shoot 'em" games because of school room shootings. Regarding the X rating worlds, I don't see a need for change. Adults should monitor their children on the internet, especially so with any chat programs. Adults monitor users coming into Gorean worlds and take action when underage users come in (sometimes they do this badly but that is a policy matter for them to control). Regards, Justin What's up with all the Gor worlds?Jun 12, 2000, 6:39pm
I like your idea Eep. Lets get password protection that adults can lock
in, in case they have their kids using AW. Your thoughts about restricting what theme's are allowable in worlds, hmmm, I can't agree with that. And your "suffering sexual frustration" comment is obsurd - what are you trying to say here? What I presume you mean is "having instinctual sexual desire" and to me there is nothing wrong that aspect of human nature. Gor has sexual elements, but this is a very small portion of it. The adults using these worlds decide when its the right time and place - which is perfectly natural. Regards, Justin [View Quote] What's up with all the Gor worlds?Jun 13, 2000, 10:56am
Chris... seems I mistyped or I have been misread, but whichever - the idea
I was trying to put across has been misinterpreted... [View Quote] I never suggested Gor is "needed", nor a good "therapy"... what I meant is that it is an alternative, can be a change from the usual routine, and that can make it an enjoyable or relaxing passtime. I wrote "For Many...." - this was a generalization and a guess. > As for "slaves" not being able to unslave themselves. In VR, this is reminicent > of being in the Hells Angels or MOB and not being able to leave. > I assume this means that if I wanted to leave GOR... I need permission... If I > am not granted said permission what happens? > What I meant was... that to untie yourself from being a "slave" you must get permission from your "Master". If your "Master" refuses tough luck - your only remaining alternative is to quit that Gor world all together... i.e. if you break the rules of the "game" you aren't allowed to play anymore - you are expelled! So whilst you my not like your Master and wish to seperate from him/her, you may not want to lose contact with your other friends. > I dont know, if ppl dont have "balance" they should seek counsel, not > Submission. > I've never been a slave, but I can imagine leaving all my cares, woes, responsibilites and such in someone elses hands and not having to think about them would be very relaxing and rejuvinating. For others it might give a sense of comfort and security. There is nothing wrong with submission, nor is there anything with domination. It is wrong when it is forced - that is a violation of human rights. Just like "good and bad control" there is "good and bad submission/domination". > VR is proving itself in allot of areas, not just GOR as a place to be taken > advantage of. > > I have already known of two "friends" who have faked deaths. > > and i know this is NOT fake. But we need to be Aware. > > Z! > In VR anything can will and does happen, and as the borders between fantasy and reality and very ill-defined and even harder to distinguish one must always tread carefully and not take anything as fact. Just like watching a good action film or sci fi movie where often many people and sometimes whole civilizations die, remember its just fiction... sit back and chew the popcorn... enjoy the ride! Only two textures were added... wood7. and wood8 (no new stone textures). Techno and I made these available in 256 x 256 pixels but AWCI seemed to only want the smaller 128 x 128 versions. I'm still hoping to change their minds on that. If anyone wants the larger versions post a message in the worldbuilders and I'll upload it. Regards Justin. [View Quote] Re: Be loyal to Activeworlds. That was a particularly well written rant, and I agree with all of it.
I would like to see those at AWCI with certain positions follow the lead of Roland Vilett (and Mr Crowle - Hamfon) with his weekly tech talk. Tom (Flagg - Customer Service) should be holding a weekly community meeting (covering the various communities AWCC WAG AWHS PK GK etc etc) Mandee (Lucrezia - Education Technology) should hold a weekly education meeting (covering AWSchool, AWUniv 1 2 and 3, and the EduWorld Universe) Shamus (Young Shamus - World Development) and Bill (Calpantera - Technical Support) could team up to hold a weekly object and texture building lecture (resolving queries about those and other things for world builders). In addition, Tom and Mandee should be very active in the community newsgroup, and Shamus and Bill should be active in the worldbuilders newsgroup. We really see very little of AWCI staff outside of Roland, which gives users the impression they aren't doing anything. Whilst I don't expect AWCI CEO or FEO to be "mixing it" with the users, those others I mentioned above I think do have an obligation to the users just by looking at their job titles. All this would be very nice, but judging by previous example it won't happen. At least not immediately - things may change when the AWCI recruitment drive is complete and there are more personnel to share the load. We can only hope. In the meantime, writing petitions is next to useless. As Goober mention, my "petition" was not a petition at all... it was a "nag to death" strategy on something already planned and accepted that just needed some final button pushing done. I like the idea of changing backdrops... I'm just not excited by the
backdrops they change. For starters, their width is way too short, resulting in a warping wrap-around effect as you turn. 3000 pixel width is correct, but even 2400 would do. Secondly... the Sun doesn't follow a logical path from sunrise to sunset. Thirdly, what's with the Earth being in the nighttime sky? That vision would place all us Alpha Worlders on the Moon. Personally - I'd much rather stay on Earth! Regards, Justin [View Quote] Backdrop sizeOct 23, 2000, 2:33am
I agree with Hal. 3000 pixels wide works out perfectly... but its then a
very big download. 2400 still gives an acceptable view when turning... the sacrifice of the small amount of warping is made up by the 20% saving on file size. Gosh it would be nice if Alpha World used a decent width backdrop... their backdrops, like most out there, are around 1500 pixels wide. Regards, Justin [View Quote] |
