Can you say data processing? Also, if Windows sucks so much, why are you using it to send newsgroup posts (unless OE runs on non-Windows OSes).

Just because a DLL is called something means nothing. You could call a DLL "corn32.dll" and still have it do the same as "kernel32.dll".

Well, Roland said it was just a "hack", so I'm not sure it'll work very well. I'd rather have a property system rewrite than a couple of hacks and patches here or there. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Then there's that stupid 400m far clipping plane limit imposed by RW3, which is just lame. AW needs so many improvements (http://tnlc.com/eep/aw/improve.html - yes, I need to update it for AW3+) it's pathetic, but it IS slowly getting better, assuming AWCI can stay focused...

Apparently there is a limit of 750 worlds that the browser can recieve/display. Roland said that once that limit is exceeded, worlds are discarded based on certain criteria (closed, empty). If you ask me, this really should be fixed so that all of the running worlds can be shown.

When used in the sence that was planned for in AW (replacing some sounds with MP3-compressed versions), the MP3 should be smaller than the equivalent WAV file. The only time MP3s get "frieken huge" is when you have a lot of sound (like in normal-length music). Those kinds of files don't work well with AW because it doesn't support streaming (and if it did, I would hope there would be a file size limit...).

Roland would have to re-write his entire property downloading mechanism to allow for any visibility. Anyway, he's included a hack (something just thrown together) in his code that should be able to allow visibility up to 200 meters.

Why would DSL get slower? As long as the ISP keeps upgrading their end to keep up with demand, there won't be any decrease from the user end. DSL doesn't work on the concept of nodes as far as I know. Each user connects directly to their ISP's server, don't they?

It would, because there would need to be code to push an avatar up when it collides like that. Right now, a descending elevator works only because the avatar falls when there is no object under it.

Something else that might work: Every citizen send in an itemized list of what they want and why. I don't mean via email, use regular "snail mail". That way, they can't just click delete. They have to actually open the letter before knowing what it's about, and thousands of letters would send quite a message, don't you think? Sure it might cost a little bit for postage, but it might be worth it.

I mean there's just no way of knowing, but it's obvious from their lack of interaction with THIS newsgroup that they just don't seem to care what we want or think. Rick and JP have their own agenda for AW and it doesn't mean making AW easier to use or having new features unless a corporate customer with lots of money requests them (like NT4 support--uh, what's the point? It's already obsolete anyway considering Win2K is out and XP is in beta. Sure, it'll have OpenGL support, but whoopety do.).
>
> No, what I think people (and MANY people!) need to do is constantly bug Rick, JP, and other AWCIers about ONE specific feature (say full-axis object rotation--without action commands--or overlapping sounds) so much that AWCI gets sick of hearing it requested and finally simply implements it to shut us all up. But such a "campaign" needs to be targeted and consistent--people need to bombard AWCIers with such requests and not let up. Yes, this is a "brute force" approach but I feel it's a last resort option given the attitude AWCI seems to have (or at least presents) towards us and AW's development.
