I think it would be nice if we could get some more graphics options for AW,
like support for hardware acceleration, Direct3d, maybe OpenGL, then
Z-Buffer depth (16-bit,24-bit,32-bit for newer cards), possibly some other
options...hey if they made AW stable enough then it could gain popularity as
a benchmarking tool :)

It would be nice if we possibly had a full-screen mode but I'm not sure as
to how we could come about with that... heh what strange wishes I
have...must be from playing games like TFC and other Half Life mods so much
lately (hey lets get rocket launchers LOL)...

[View Quote] Direct3D and OpenGL ARE hardware acceleration. D3D is already in use and OpenGL is being added

::rolleyes:: I doubt it :)

Please see my comments below:

[View Quote] Active Worlds currently supports DirectX (which includes Direct3D) and
version 3.2 will (hopefully) include OpenGL and software rendering
support.

If you mean 16-bit and 32-bit color, Active Worlds already supports
both. As far as a 3D benchmarking tool, I recommend MadOnion.com's
3DMark2001 (more information about it can be found at
http://gamershq.madonion.com/products/3dmark2001/).

I believe other users requested this as a wish back a few years ago when
they were using old 3dfx Voodoo technology. It still has not been
implemented.

What Active Worlds really needs is a firing mechanism (besides the click
event) so that you can actually fire weapons.

Yeah the mouse trigger thing would be useful, heh maybe we could get
user-moveable objects in AW like click it and then you can drag it
around...hey that would be fun. As for 3d benchmarks, yeah I have 3DMark
2001 (the lobby scene rules!) and 3DMark 2000, I thinnk my score droppped
from a 5000 to a 1200, still when you think about it if AW became a
benchmarking tool in the way that games like Quake have then it would
probably see some more popularity from the gamers who want to get bragging
rights. I suggested to roland before in beta we should have hardware synth
support too...lets hope he adds it :)

One of those would be me ;-)
Although now I use Geforce2 GTS (Geforce3 when price goes down, of course..)

I still want this feature too. Even a rudimentary way of doing this would
be OK. Such as one Alt+Enter toggle to automatically do this:

* Maximize AW window
* Disable all tabs
* Disable web window
* Disable toolbars
* Maybe disable (or reduce size) of chat area

This should be doable with the existing AW architecture, although this
would be a pseudo-fullscreen mode. This is relatively simple to
implement since you can already do this by various different hotkeys
(except for toolbars and chat area)

Heheh aw is defently good for checking load temps for your cpu sence it
loads the cpu to 100% heh
And i already figured out a way to use aw to compare one vid card and or
system config to another.
Requires you to have a world of your own though that you can swap paths back
and forth etc.
what you do is make a sphere of a certin vert/poly count say a suicidal 10
to 20 k then place this in your world add it to your tport list so its fully
inview.
Then get a reading of your fps in aw change cards settigns what ever then go
back to your world tport to the sphere you made and take another reading of
your fps :)
simple and acurate no good to compare your os to another system though as
their tport wont match yours less you send them you tport list.
