I only got 90 %, stupid sports question ;) Well, better than the ominous Evo Commands quiz.

So this lflare1.jpg texture exists in Talian's object path?
Your friend built both pole and target objects herself? Could there be conflicting pole commands nearby? Talian's example has many targets to be textured - wd1, wd2 and wd3 - but otherwise it looks basically the same as yours if you cut it after the second astart: create animate me 0. 1 1 0,astart;adone texture sometexturename name=sometargetname, astart -- Mauz http://mauz.info AW MessengerApr 19, 2006, 7:27am

Hmm didn't 3.5 beta/other-universe version have invite.exe, with icon in taskbar?
Users tab would list people running invite.exe, whether their AW was open or not. So support for more flags should be possible, if not already/still there. -- Mauz http://mauz.info I was saved!Apr 21, 2006, 9:44pm

> 2. Why did you join? What triggered your registering as a citizen?
I like pretty pictures, and 3D was all new, like a dream. AW was free back then. > 3. How long have you remained a citizen? 10 years next week I think :o > 4. What is the best feature of AW for you? Community, and technically AW works nice and fast. > 5. What have you created in AW? A world and some models for it, and an AW related web site. > 6. What activities do you enjoy in AW? Chatting, gatekeeping, beta testing, information gathering, admiring sceneries, some games. Psst, you haven't told us your own answers :) -- Mauz http://mauz.info here we go againMay 29, 2006, 7:46pm

They dropped the _official_ support for Windows 95 six years ago already, with AW 3.0:
"Active Worlds 3.0 requires Windows 98. Because Microsoft has not made DirectX 7.0 available for Windows NT 4.0, this means that Active Worlds 3.0 will not currently run under Windows NT 4.0. While not "officially" supported, in practice 3.0 should also be able to run on Windows 95 and Windows 2000 systems (provided DirectX 7.0 has been installed and the other hardware requirements are met)." -- Mauz http://mauz.info OLD windoze? Err that is exactly the same as the system requirements for AW 3.6?
Windows 95 was dropped from that list years ago, but apparently it still has worked for some. Well, we'll see when 4.1 comes out. -- Mauz http://mauz.info contactsMay 29, 2006, 1:45pm

Building in AlphaWorld is allowed in the 4.1 universe :)
I suppose they are not going to allow building in 3.6 anymore, they would not be able integrate two differently built worlds :o -- Mauz http://mauz.info cell limit in awJun 1, 2006, 3:10pm
[View Quote]
The cell size is the same I think. But I heard Ferruccio pondering that
maybe each object takes up more space under the new database? Two new fields have been added to the propdump version 4. I suggested rallying for Huge cell size now ;) -- Mauz http://mauz.info Any way to autostart a world server?Jun 5, 2006, 2:47pm
[View Quote]
You could try installing it as a service, see Andras's instructions under
http://mauz.info/worldrunning.html#running If you don't mind Windows trying to restart the service all the time and usually failing because the worlds are already running elsewhere. Unless your sister also sets hers as a service that starts a program upon service failure that e.g. sends you an email. Except what if hers failed because her computer went offline, and... Eh this is starting to sound like a huge software project ;) Better suggestions? -- Mauz http://mauz.info [4.1 Build 950] :Jun 8, 2006, 3:35pm

The way I've understood them:
> Detach on Bump Enter a name of an object, built by the same citizen as the mover. Then when the mover bumps that object, it detaches all avatars. Like if the object has "create name stop", then you would enter "stop" here. > Disable Auto Yaw Mover does not rotate to face the direction it is going. > Disable Move Rider can hop on the mover but not move? > Looping The waypoint sequence loops continuously. Be careful not to let it rise through your avatar... > Seq File Gesture that the avatar displays while using the mover. Like for my cars I put sit there (for sit.seq), so the avatar sits inside the car. > Use Object Tag You can define some polygons as tag 300 in rwx, or tag name aw_mover in cob. It defines where to click on the mover to get attached to it. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Undocumented feature (midi notes)Jun 10, 2006, 10:00am

Would be nice in AWGate, swearing and fighting really spoils the welcoming mood.
But I would like to see a bot that, instead of ejecting people for saying "Second Life" (does CA still do that?), would replace that phrase in chat with "Inferior Chat Program" :p -- Mauz http://mauz.info 4.1 texture/mask bugJun 8, 2006, 1:27pm
[View Quote]
No I did not change them. But then your masks are 4 bit/16-color, and even then
usually just 2 colors of those used, so more like black and white instead of greyscale. -- Mauz http://mauz.info 4.1 texture/mask bugJun 8, 2006, 6:42pm
[View Quote]
32-bit bitmaps caused crashes in 3.6 anyway, since they are not supported by Renderware.
24-bit greyscale is a bit of an overkill though... True color images are 24-bit, they can contain 2^24 = 16,777,216 colors. So every pixel has 256 possible values for red, green and blue (256*256*256). But greyscale images are actually 8-bit, they can only contain 2^8 = 256 colors, since in grey all three components must have the same color. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Able to replyJun 9, 2006, 2:40pm

I'm sure they will still finetune the new privacy system in 4.1 and fix some oversights.
It was supposed to help against harassment, not make it harder to mute and block and hide. The new features were actually a late addition, so there was not much time to test them thoroughly. Especially since there was not that much real harassing happening among the beta testers :p -- Mauz http://mauz.info "Undocumented" 4.1 FeaturesJun 9, 2006, 3:49pm

* UI themes in Show menu, to change the look of your browser: UI Theme 2000, XP, 2003 or 2005 * Menu Effects in Show menu: you can take off the default tip balloons and fade effects * Screenshot hotkey: you can take more pics by increasing the max_images value in aworld.ini * [Colors] section in Default\controls.ini: you can put color names here, like yellow, red, pink etc: background= (err what's this about, this color only flashes briefly in the background when I move tabs) dialog= (World Features and Object Properties dialog lines 1, 3 etc) dialog_stripe= (-"-, lines 2, 4 etc) balloon_background= (chat balloon) balloon_text= (chat balloon text and rim) -- Mauz http://mauz.info "Undocumented" 4.1 FeaturesJun 9, 2006, 9:34pm

I have not seen that, nor do I get it even when changing screen resolution,
font size, icon size, dpi and whatnots under Display or Accessibility options. Maybe could try deleting the whole [layout] section in aworld.ini (20 - 30 lines), that resets the layout to its defaults? -- Mauz http://mauz.info What exactly does the "Empty Local Cache" option do?Jun 28, 2006, 9:08am
[View Quote]
If they prefer not to delete their cache, you could just ask them to leave
and come back, AW 4.1 handles avatars.dat changes better than before (added detection if avatars.dat was modified whenever entering a world). -- Mauz http://mauz.info Who is this Immigration Officer anyhow?Jun 28, 2006, 5:54am
[View Quote]
In the old AWGate, where there was female Customs Aide,
there were rumors of something going on between CA and IO. Since IO never shows up in avatar, I think it remained just a virtual affair. You can sometimes see Immigration Officer joking. But whispering advertisements and ejection notices to all those tourist masses must get tedious. I heard the head IO got a serious reprimand the other day over that unfortunate Cy Awards postponing announcement. -- Mauz http://mauz.info |
