mauz // User SearchRe: I Can't hear Midi With Midi On in SettingsMay 27, 2005, 3:57pm

- Do you hear midi files outside of AW, like in web pages,
or when playing midi files in Windows Media Player? What about other audio files? - see the level for MIDI in Volume Control, and that Mute box under it is not checked - Control Panel - Sounds - Audio - Default device for MIDI at the bottom: try Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth if it is something else - get an updated sound card driver from the vendor's web site and install it - repair or upgrade Windows. By the way, what model is your sound card? -- Mauz http://mauz.info To AWI: Remove JacobMay 29, 2005, 4:28pm

Well even in closed beta testing it may be beneficial
to bring in people who, even though hummm not always able to word their observations in precise technical terms ;) do use AW a lot, and sometimes in such creative ways that techies would not even think of. Plus some features that they complain about, even when not bugs, may be later fixed as usablity flaws. -- Mauz http://mauz.info CY Comments?Jul 24, 2005, 8:07am

I like this idea. Maybe even give both awards in each category?
What I would like to see is revamping of categories: - Some are confusingly named, overlapping or too restrictive, like "Environmental Design", "Innovative Design", "Art Themed World" - Some will just not get much entries anymore, like "Virtual Art Project" and "Technical Programs" (= others than bots). - While some categories get many nominations, and thus many nominees who get left without a Cy. I always liked the Write-In category where people can nominate whatever they want, it's fun and creative. Maybe less categories but broader and clearly defined, and give out more Cys in them? Actually that already happened a lot last year: there were many ties, even 4-way (because of less votes?). Cys haven't suffered inflation yet, it's more like too many deserving entries do not get one, year after year. That is also why I think that you shouldn't get a Cy for the same achievement twice, no matter how good and popular it is. Should that be in the rules? -- Mauz http://mauz.info CY Comments?Jul 24, 2005, 1:11pm

Err actually I didn't remember that, good for you ;)
I just recalled that years ago AlphaBit informed me that I had won a Cy for my website again (I'm still proudly wearing the 1999 award there), but she agreed to transfer it to the second most voted. Nice to have that in the rules now. -- Mauz http://mauz.info AWEC Festival openingJul 30, 2005, 1:44pm

Duh, it is not even finished yet, it only just went beta a week ago.
Like 3.6 was in beta for three months, and it only had minor changes to test. -- Mauz http://mauz.info where is for dll aw 4.1 ?Aug 8, 2005, 2:09pm
AW 4.1 cannot be downloaded yet, it is still under development.
AWI has invited or will invite some citizens to test it, mainly those who were beta testing 3.6 already. A bad translation :p AW 4.1 ne peut pas être téléchargé encore, il est toujours en cours de développement. AWI a invité ou invitera quelques citoyens à tester il, principalement beta-testeurs de 3.6. -- Mauz http://mauz.info [Plain-Text] Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - First video completedSep 1, 2005, 4:21pm

Wow, cool studio :) Loved the sound and light effects and shots.
I wish the contestants would have used their lifelines and asked the fine-lookin' if a bit rowdy audience at some point. My favorite part was where one found out about being filmed and started chasing the camera man :p -- Mauz http://mauz.info Are we losing posts?Sep 27, 2005, 5:10pm

Newer models should retain their status after reboot.
For others see http://www.mvps.org/jtsang/flock.html The reg files there will flip the meaning of the F Lock key. (Does not work if the keyboard is plugged in via USB though.) -- Mauz http://mauz.info World Server ProblemNov 26, 2005, 8:16am

By default, AW server installs into folder C:\Active Worlds Server\
and world backups go to folder C:\Active Worlds Server Backup\. Convert.bat assumes that you run it from a similar folder, that has - the .idx and .dat files - a subfolder called utils that has the dump and load exe files, - a subfolder called temp where the converted txt files go. Don't you have those? If you want to get the exact error message, delete the last exit line away from convert.bat and run it inside Command Prompt (should be under All Programs, Accessories): Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. I think Lucrezia Borgia and Wascally Wabbit started Objects d'Active Worlds,
back in 1997 if not earlier. It was under Lucrezia's thewebmistress domain at first. She worked for ActiveWorlds.Com later. They were not French, just... elegant ;) Eep maintained the web site in 1999 or so, until Casay took over. It had been moved under awcommunity.org by then. -- Mauz http://mauz.info I wish AW was still ....Dec 4, 2005, 12:44pm

I think Castles was still kind of around back in 2003, when that screenshot was probably taken - minus the right column ;)
By the way, I have never seen thousands of users in AW. Here are some of the highest numbers I could find: http://mauz.info/awpics1997/AW-19970930-8.jpg http://mauz.info/awpics1997/Transcen-19971023-5.jpg Those were taken with AW version 1.3, from September 1997. In earlier builds there was no Worlds list to see the user amount in the first place. -- Mauz http://mauz.info I wish AW was still ....Jan 23, 2006, 1:56pm

Cool, can you find a screenshot? Because I don't have such a screenshot
from between June 1995 and the registration fee in October 1997, when the highest user counts supposedly were. Yeah I remember occasional 500-figures in 1998, even though AW was already a paysite then.
Or 600-ish during big events like Cys and Avvies. But, still, thousands, every day...? Hacked bot users don't count either ;) -- Mauz http://mauz.info How long do you spend on AW?Dec 7, 2005, 3:47pm

I can turn out the lights, mice can live in the dark <:3 )~~~~
My citizen number lists indicate that new registrations went down by 17 % last year. But the number of worlds is only 10 % less than at their highest peak last year. Number of worlds changes according to user amount also, because of the short-lived trial worlds and 3D homepages, since it is usually the new citizens who obtain them. > its abit of worry any news when 4.0 will come out? It will be 4.1 already, unless they come up with a cooler name. I think it is now safe to say that "this year" :) -- Mauz http://mauz.info Why I'll never go to a gor world againJan 20, 2006, 3:19pm
