What about other audio files? - see the level for MIDI in Volume Control, and that Mute box under it is not checked - Control Panel - Sounds - Audio - Default device for MIDI at the bottom: try Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth if it is something else - get an updated sound card driver from the vendor's web site and install it - repair or upgrade Windows.
