Yup, Options menu, Settings: take off "Use Texture Mipmaps" checkmark.
Options, Settings, Video: put a checkmark in "Hardware T&L Support" box, if you have a sufficiently new graphics card (most do). Worlds list: you must resize the Worlds column by dragging the narrow vertical line between column headers to right. This was noted during beta but unfortunately never fixed. About the floating tab window: well you just have to resize it and move it to the side for now, maybe they'll redesign it for 3.6. -- Mauz http://mauz.info AW 3.5Apr 30, 2004, 12:13pm

Yah I had to resize it narrower and move around before it would stick,
took quite a few browser restarts to get it right. Have you tried setting tab_x and tab_y to 0 in aworld.ini? -- Mauz http://mauz.info I would like to admit something shameful in public too.May 10, 2004, 12:02pm

And I'm not a mouse, R2D2, Pikachu, bird or any other small critter,
even though I like wearing those kinds of avatars. In fact, I'm pretty tall. Is it so wrong to pretend, if only in VR, that I'm small and cute? Waah. Whew, glad to get that off my chest. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Lost FriendMay 20, 2004, 8:40am

I don't know what to say, there's too much. I've seen her around for 7 years,
ever since she came from Worlds Chat: early Gatekeepers and Peacekeepers... scary stories with Stannley on Oct 31st... Cy Awards... WildAW... CitBingo... AWTrivia... Spades... Easter egg and Xmas present hunts in Storage... with her *S* and *G* and and multiple exclamation points and question marks. Such a loss. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Help Please...May 26, 2004, 1:42pm

A certain tourist ;) suspected that the receiver tries to connect
before the "Y" reply goes through to the sender, especially with fast lines. Might be better if the sender was connecting to the receiver anyway. There could be some buffer overflows too. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Help Please...May 27, 2004, 1:43pm

Reply from the tourist (tourists can read these newsgroups? neat):
"I have totally shattered that theory. The sender opens a listening socket long before. The code is awful, it's hard to reproduce the problem locally, and well... I firmly believe this feature should either be removed from the browser or rewritten from scratch anyway." -- Mauz http://mauz.info BIG ProblemJun 10, 2004, 1:38pm

Yup in Options, Settings, Video, try putting the Hardware T&L Support checkbox on or off. Or choose OpenGL instead. Software mode is compatible with any video card, but slow. If you install AW again, put it into a new folder this time. So, you don't check "Remember password for next time" at login? And as usual, make sure your virus and firewall protection is up to date. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Come on, this is getting ridiculous.Jun 13, 2004, 9:26am

That is a great idea, I'd be willing to contribute to it myself.
One problem though: who chooses who gets the citizenships? Whether it is AWI or some board chosen by the donators, there is always the possibility of things getting ugly when some givers feel that a wrong candidate was chosen. -- Mauz http://mauz.info oopsJul 11, 2004, 11:38am

Maybe you could download 3.6 from their webpage and install it
into a new folder. (Remember to save the telegram and teleport files.) > 2) Seqs stop all of a sudden and for no apparent reason In all the worlds? I heard there are still buggy seq files around. Do you have Transform&Lighting checked in Video options? > I don't understand why 3.6 > is considered final release when only a handful have tested it I don't know why they skipped the public beta phase; maybe because 3.6 is really about just one new command, so they thought they can handle bug reports through the normal channels and possibly release minor patches later. Alpha testing is just for the geeks and other masochists anyway, because in that stage the browser is still crashingly buggy. Kudos to chrispeg and other programmers and contributors, I think they did a great job in such a short time :) -- Mauz http://mauz.info Why no 3.6 Beta for general community???Jul 12, 2004, 7:21am

Yes I cannot see how open beta would be any different than open release:
anybody can download it (or not if they don't want to), send bug reports, and then they release patches if needed. Now closed beta would be different, one where they announce that they are accepting applications, choose a diverse bunch of testers, and then the reports and comments must be posted to the beta newsgroup for all the testers to see. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Interview & TranscriptJul 11, 2004, 11:39am

Maybe E N Z O can clarify... The way I understand it is that
Worlds Inc. had Protagonist, Roland, Dataman etc, while E N Z O was in Circle of Fire Studios with Shamus Young, Moria etc. Worlds Inc asked CoF to work on the Yellowstone project. Only Worlds Inc ditched AW later, so CoF bought it from them. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Wierd IE thingJul 23, 2004, 1:22pm

Go to Run in Start menu, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and click OK. In IE go to Tools, Internet Options, Programs, Reset Web Settings. Reboot. Perhaps 3danim.exe at http://www.andras.net/tools.html ?
So if you have texture test1.jpg and mask test1m.bmp, you go to Command Prompt, give command 3danim 100 100 test1 > test.rwx and it makes an rwx file that has like three sprites crossing at the center. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Sound playing slow whilst using awAug 3, 2004, 1:29pm

You mean AW music (mids or wavs or mp3s) or some external player?
How about media command? Which operating systems, which sound cards? My SoundBlaster Live worked fine with W98 and MediaPlayer 6.4, but kept crackling and slowing down with XP and MediaPlayer 9. Around the same time came AW 3.5 with CPU throttle that allocates less processor time for AW, dunno if that had any effect. Anyway, I bought SB Audigy, and sounds work fine now. How abouts a file called dumpit.bat or whatever, with command:
del "C:\Active Worlds\cache\art\my.world.path\avatars.dat" For the whole world art folder do a bat file with command: rmdir "C:\Active Worlds\cache\art\my.world.path" /s /q -- Mauz http://mauz.info Auto dump cache or avatars.dat?Aug 11, 2004, 5:46pm

Yup it is possible for a bat file to have only one line.
Place it on your desktop if you will, easier to find. Or under Windows folder and create a shortcut to it. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Auto dump cache or avatars.dat?Aug 12, 2004, 1:03pm
[View Quote]
To delete all avatars.dats you need a two line bat file:
cd "C:\Active Worlds\cache\art" del avatars.dat /s Or make a search for avatars.dat in Windows Explorer and delete them from Search Results window. That way they go to Recycle Bin first, if that feels safer. You can save the search from File menu for later use.
