coronas... (not the refreshing alcoholic beverage)

Jul 28, 2002, 2:15am
Roland said it was "too complex" to do make the coronas visible from behind
transparent/masked objects. I don't think it is, lots of games do this.
Then again I haven't been developing programs for the past 6+ years.

Variables inside the WM

LoL it'll say "Welcome to Untitled, someone" like it's always said. If
there's no welcome message it displays the world title. Maybe if you load
an ATdump with those 2 lines completely removed it won't say anything, but
as soon as you change one it's all over.

Teleporting

It depends on how far away the location is. A teleport a user does
automatically if far enough away, should make them teleport like they
normally would, but if it's close it'll warp them.

You'd have to create a bot to do that. I wouldn't doubt it couldn't be
done. It'd be hard though, very hard.

Wow, that must be one uber 450 MHz machine there. I'm running AW, WMP,
winzip, 3 notepad windows, 2 IE windows, apache, trillian, and OE and I've
got 40% resources free on a 700 MHz machine.

Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Kazaa (spyware!) should zap about 256 mb's of
ram. I agree though, that his machine is getting zapped if he can only run
AW and not winamp or WMP. Fear my emachine, thoust Strike Rapier's computer
cannot withstand it's mighty wrath!

Yeah and I only have 192 mb ram. My 233 mhz computer can run AW and WMP at
the same time, it only has 32 mb of ram too. But my emachine r0x0rs, don't
diss it.

Need a registry to use the stuff though, but I doubt that would happen. I
think he wants a script so he can upload files without having to call up an
FTP program. Could be good for those who are less computer inclined. :D

You must have one graphically interfaced ftp.

DOS' FTP is nice, so is WS_FTP, don't cause much lag on my machine :P

I think I may know why, you have those pop up windows and you're using
active FTP. Try using passive FTP without those pop up windows. See if
that helps ya. Also you might be using WS_FTP pro, I use LE.

Well the first option is not what coronas do, they do increase with
distance. Well, maybe not increase but they do stay the same size. Real
ones they will fade out until they're gone.

You wouldn't need to do very much as I sat down and thought about it. All
you'd have to do is bind the corners to opposing sides of the world. Of
course this needs to be an *option* otherwise it may make other worlds look
ugly. This would help to make a world more fluid instead of just a box.

A bot can do that for now. Until AW's programmers feel like adding those
kind of features in. I think the world owner would have to chose if he
wanted other people to see the things move when activated or bumped by
others.

Well, with a bot you'd need to change the Command field of an object to
"create move 0 0 1" or something to that sort. Everyone will see it move as
soon as it's changed.

Probably a nasty slow VB bot causing that problem. Otherwise you'd have to
be on a 14.4 using AOL to notice anything that bad.

Someone's defensive on VB. Most people that program VB aren't experts,
realize that. They're just people who need to make something quick, and
when you make something quick it's going to be crappy.

Therefore it's going to be slow compared to the same "quick" anything else
programed in app just the way it's handled by windows. Who cares if it
takes milliseconds, that's still time, and for C++ apps it might take
microseconds.

I'm not sure I'll miss some of the people here either.

"Nasty slow VB bot," includes but is not limited to, the programmer, the
sloppy code, and the computer it's hosted on. If you host a VB bot on a 66
mhz machine and benchmark it with a C++ of equal design it's still going to
be much slower. Then there's the bad designs and bad programmers that just
do things quickly without optimization. Again that's going to slow things
down too compared to a same badly designed C++ app.

But I'm sure since you're the expert you'll correct me on that. I'm just a
guy who doesn't do it professionally so of course it's all wrong. I'm just
a hobbyist, that means I know nothing compared to people who program VB for
companies that are too stupid and just want programs quick and inexpensively
created.

And YES VB apps are slower than C\C++ apps. Even if it's by the most
minuscule difference. No matter what you say, no matter what you do that's
always true. I was also told by a couple of hardcore VB programmers that
this is exactly true. I quote what one said "Yes, unless that C++ app is do
ing something really freaky." It's the same exact comparison as ASM is to
C\C++. I wish these "experts" would realize that. I expect more crap from
all our VB experts in here, so that's why I'm just going to filter them out
if they reply and add in "oh it is much faster than C++ in all cases."

You're right, there isn't. I don't think the programmers are going to do it
either nor is it number one on their list of things to do.

Yeah it is, but in this case it's the truth. It's like comparing languages
ASM < C\C++ < VB. No way VB could compare to ASM or C\C++ for that matter.
Now anymore and all the VB kiddies will hit my filter list. I've already
filtered two.

coronas

Aug 15, 2002, 11:47pm
Well those blurs that you see of lights are actually coronas, or a form of
it. They never change in size, that's why they look so huge from a
distance. Your eyes will usually resolve the distance so if it gets too
small they dissappear and you just see the light or when you get to close
your eyes will focuse and you won't see it anymore.

I know what could be used to add onto that... a waypoint system. You put
like create waypoint1 name=bus, create waypoint2 name=bus, etc. When you
reach the last one you could put loop (wait=#) which would have it move back
and forth along the waypoints, or just put "reset" and that would be fine.
Would be great. Especially if things are able to move you.

Not many games let you do that do they? I thought they put fog in to make it look
more realistic instead of the world just ending suddenly (I haven't seen a game yet
that lets you do it at least).
