Did you ever notice...

Jul 14, 2001, 8:49am
here's the full text from at Home's AUP on Newsgroups, incase you didn't
go and read it on http://home.com/aup --
===============
Newsgroups

Messages posted to newsgroups must comply with the written charters or
FAQs for those newsgroups. Advertisements, solicitations, or other
commercial messages should be posted only in those newsgroups whose
charters or FAQs explicitly permit them. You are responsible for
determining the policies of a given newsgroup before posting to it.

Posting or cross-posting the same or substantially similar messages to
more than eight newsgroups is prohibited. Our news software will
automatically cancel any messages posted to nine or more newsgroups.

Binary files may not be posted to newsgroups not specifically named for
that purpose. Users posting binary files to groups with policies
concerning the permissible daily volume of posted files are required to
observe those limitations.

Forging, altering or removing header information is prohibited. This
includes attempting to circumvent the approval process for posting to a
moderated newsgroup.

the at Home network reserves the right to discontinue access to any Usenet
newsgroup at any time for any reason.

You may not attempt to "flood" or disrupt Usenet newsgroups. Disruption
is defined as posting a large number of messages to a newsgroup which
contain no substantive content, to the extent that normal discussion in
the group is significantly hindered. Examples of disruptive activities
include, but are not limited to, posting multiple messages with no text
in the body, or posting many follow-ups to messages with no new text.
Messages may not be canceled, except by the author or by official
newsgroup moderators performing their duties.

The Usenet news service included with an at Home residential service
account is provided for interactive use by the subscriber, using a
commonly-available NNTP client such as Netscape Communicator.
Non-interactive clients which download Usenet articles in bulk are
prohibited.

sure aw beta

Jul 21, 2001, 3:13am
It seems you don't want to read
http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw32/faq_32.html so I'll kindly quote
the questions & answers regarding the beta [team]:

=================================================
Q. Can I beta test 3.2?

A. As with 3.1, the beta test for 3.2 will be closed, and we are not
currently accepting applications for beta testers. After the initial
beta is released, and things appear to be going well, we may make the
beta available to a larger pool of users. Please don't send us telegrams
or emails asking to be on the beta program.

Q. Why is the 3.2 beta closed?

The primary reason for a closed beta is to keep the amount of feedback
and bug reports we receive under control. It is also to keep to a
minimum the inevitable confusion in the user base that occurs when a
substantial fraction of the users are using a new version, many of whom
do not even understand that the new version is still a beta and probably
still has serious bugs. Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of a
beta is not to provide an advanced preview version to certain users. The
only purpose for a beta version is to find and fix bugs. Usually, a
relatively small group of beta testers (50 or fewer) can find the vast
majority of significant problems in a new version in a relatively short
amount of time. Our goal is for the beta period to be as brief as
possible. That way, we can release 3.2 to all users sooner. When we have
too many users on the beta, it can actually take longer, because each
bug report we receive has to be individually investigated.

Q. OK, then can I have 3.2 now if I promise not to send any bug reports?

A. No. :)

Q. I'm working on a big important project and I really need to know if
3.2 will work with it. Can I please have 3.2 now?

A. No! :)
