Hmmm you saw its a new computer? Makes me wonder if it has Windows XP then.
Because if it does, then you should already have DX9 IF you've installed the
service packs. Sounds like you haven't. Might want to look into that. If
you press winkey (inbetween alt and ctrl) + pause (top right key), it'll
bring up some system specs which will tell you there.

I couldn't find a single Pentium 4 motherboard that didn't have an AGP slot
either, but then again you can't find propriety motherboards for sale by
themselves.
I would say that even preassembled computer have AGP, which I know was true
a couple years ago. But lately the big names have been getting more and
more propriety and only shipping out the bare minimum, with near zero
expandability options (since that wouldn't make them any money of course).

Get quotes from a local mom n' pop store. I bet though could beat 1100, I
know I can ;D
Plus you get local support and a little bit of personal touch.
But yea I haven't heard anything good about Dell from people. Just one bad

Just don't expand it too much. The wiki patrol are very harse on commerical

That's how Wiki wants it. History is the most relevant part to their
dictionary. When I first made the article the wiki patrol cut off
everything except the history section.
The wiki crowd has a long history of attacking commercial products.

I'll second the tech support. Look at the system event log. It may show
what is responsible for hanging the system, by pointing to a service,
hardware, or some dll which can be looked up. Though it may not show it at
all...if not I would start out by reinstalling/updating display drivers, and
get DX9 if its not already on there.
control panel -> admin tools -> event viewer.

Now that you mention it, I had problems with the Catalyst 4.10 drivers and
AW.
4.11 have been fine though.

If it's a world to world difference, it might be features within the
world...
Coronas can cause some weirdness.
Terrain uses LOD.
Other than that it could just be chance.
To follow up, 4.11 has been rock solid. Not one crash since I got it. 4.10
on the other hand crashed me at least once a day. Versions before 4.10 were
fine too though.

My parent's computer once started smoking. Smells awful, lol. But it

Just don't buy a cheapo Power Supply. A bad power supply = can ruin your
day, to say the least :P
And personally I'd go for a 400W power supply just to give you some headroom
in case you upgrade your other parts.
I bought 3 Allied 400W PSUs from newegg, and they've all worked wonderful so
far.

I was thinking about picking up an ATI X800 Pro video card but I'd like know
what kinda gains there will be in AW, since it's a rather expensive piece of
hardware.
Could somebody teleport to AW 2349S 3858E 270 and tell me what their
visibility needs to be to achieve 25+ fps? For a proper test don't move or
turn at all from the coordinates given.
And maybe also list what your CPU is too...
80 meters for 25 fps on my 9800SE with an AMD XP 2500.

Meh...SE = suckey edition. All the reject cards get handed down to the
second market and the third party companies mark them down. Cheap though :)
According to some benchmarks an x800 would perform over 4x better. But I'd
like some real-world comparisons for AW, since AW is kinda weird on the
technical side.

Greetings,
We had a problem in AW on Friday afternoon which forced us to limit some of
the functionality of commands, builds, objects, etc. This will only be
temporary and will be reset shortly. Most likely Monday morning. If you have
further questions, please let me know. Thank you.
