Hello Everyone,
I'm having problems with my AW Screen melting, all the colors running together. When it happens I have to close out of AW. My video graphic's mode is on Direct 3D. I have a great video card. Could someone please help Me. Thank You Lady TeaL ferruccioNov 7, 2004, 4:00am
Could you please be more specific on what exactly you are seeing? Also
please mention what type of video card you use, and what other 3d programs you use. [View Quote] lady tealNov 7, 2004, 4:34am
Hello,
I don't know what kind of video card I have, but it's a new computer I have it about 3 months. They said it was a great video card, that all I know. I do have to find out what kind I have. AW is the only 3D program I run. My problem is I will be in AW then all of a sudden the screen changes to all these colors, it's like all the objects are melted together. I hope that explains it better. Hugz Lady TeaL [View Quote] samuel ml lisonNov 7, 2004, 4:52am

You should know what type of video card you have. A computer sales
person telling you not to worry, the computer has a great video card doesn't mean a thing. Perhaps take a screenshot, if you know how and upload the picture to a server, and link us to the picture, so we can see. It may also be wise to download the latest video drivers for your card, but then, you don't know what type of card you have, so we can not help you further in finding the latest drivers. Even easier for you perhaps is for you to tell us what brand of graphics card it is? An ATi card or a GeForce card? Anything come to mind? Right-click your desktop, select "properties" then select the "settings"
tab. Right under the dark grey box with a large and small box in it, you will see a narrow white box. (it might also be an option-type box with an arrow on the side.) Tell me what it says in that white box. [View Quote] lady tealNov 7, 2004, 6:12am
Hello,
I have updated my drivers on my video card, but now the screen stays messed up!! It won't load at all now. I can't see any objects at all now, it's just a bunch of colors mixed together on the screen. I also did what you ask ferruccio, The box is <Highest 32bits>. Thanks Again Lady TeaL for<news at dreamcities.net> [View Quote] sw chrisNov 7, 2004, 6:15am
Do that again, and tell us what's under the "Display" heading. You told us
what was in "color quality", but we're looking for what's in the Display box. Chris [View Quote] lady tealNov 7, 2004, 6:26am
Display Box reads: Intel{R} 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

Ick. Hate to sidetrack your thread but that's an onboard graphic chip, by
no means a "great graphic card". It's about as bare minimum as you can get =0 Lousy salesman... As for your display problems...hard to suggest a whole lot with an Intel chip. Perhaps you should try using OpenGL rendering instead. It might even be better for your computer (seems to be for a lot of folks). [View Quote] lady tealNov 7, 2004, 6:47am
That's about right :( I guess I better go get another one. What's your take
on a new one? [View Quote] sw comitNov 7, 2004, 6:56am
See the thread a few posts down called "off topic..."
I just made a post there, but to save you the trouble it basically points to this: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/images/image002.gif Its an image showing the rough performance numbers of the cards out there. It varies from test to test (that's just one of many), but not by much, so it gives you a general idea. Just do whatever fits your budget. Personally I use a Radeon 9800SE. It's not on that chart but its equivalent to a Radeon 9600 Pro. It runs AW plenty fast. If you don't have a problem buying over the internet I recommend www.newegg.com [View Quote] lady nighthawkNov 7, 2004, 9:33am

If you looking for a new pc might want to check out www.cyberpowersystem.com
.. Thats wherew I got my pc for cheap, got ATI Raedon 9600 XT card with 256 mb, runs great on aw as I have seen and nice benchmark. It cost a little more than some of the raedon 9800, se, ez pro. But I would just recommend you get a raedon 9800 pro with 128 mb, there really isn't that much need for you to look for one with 256 mb memory. Lady TeaL,
Let's back up a bit. If the problem only occurs in AW then let's take a look at your browser settings on the video tab. If you have the T & L hardware support toggled on, then let's take that off for now until you know your card supports it, from what I have read in here, most likely no. Exit AW and come back in. If the problem is still there then let's check your video adaptor drivers, I think samuel suggested this already and if you did get the correct drivers, let's do a direct x check on your computer. Go to the start button, run, type in dxdiag and check what version you have. Let's update that too if you are less 9.0c. You can find this on the Microsoft pages. If this is a new computer, most likely there are some driver updates that already need updated and hopefully is under warranty lol. Then come back into aw then we can possibly look elsewhere if this doesn't do it. Somebody else awhile back had a similiar problem and the Direct X update seemed to correct the problem. Unless they give her a compensation discount for the salesman practically
lieing, a computer with a real graphic card is going to cost more...a lot more considering it's retail and assembled. Get a price check of a new graphic card you want to buy, and whatever the difference is in the price of the new computer they offer you. They aren't hard to install. Hmmm you saw its a new computer? Makes me wonder if it has Windows XP then.
Because if it does, then you should already have DX9 IF you've installed the service packs. Sounds like you haven't. Might want to look into that. If you press winkey (inbetween alt and ctrl) + pause (top right key), it'll bring up some system specs which will tell you there. [View Quote] lady tealNov 8, 2004, 6:35pm

Last upgrade I did from a onboard needed to have jumpers on
the motherboard set. <<< Was that like 1970? :-) Normally you will find a simple BIOS option which switches the onboard graphics on or off, the by far hardest part in installing a new graphic card is to get rid of the old driver (most people do not switch to a plain VGA driver prior to switching to a diffrent type of card). What was not yet pointed out in this thread is that most mainboards sold in the USA do not have a special graphic card slot called "AGP slot", esepcially not when they have onboard graphics. Now, most graphic cards of higher performance require this slot, but the entry models are mostly available in a "PCI slot" version as well, which can be used in any computer (PCI is the normal slot where you plug in network, sound, etc. cards as well). Their performance is a bit weaker than that of AGP cards and they are about 25-50% more expensive, but at least they save you from having to replace your complete mainboard. Avoid the NEW PCIe/PCIx slot mainboards, they will become standard in 1-2 years, but for now, the regular mainboards are better and more compatible. On the other hand, for those who have a lucky hand with computer assembling (which is not hard at all anymore since today a computer consists of around 6-7 parts only, 2 being a fan <g>), might pick some of the less expensive motherboards with AGP slot (around 100$ and less) - they usually serve well for all average useages. :-) [View Quote] |
