Some people are having trouble with firewalls and the upgrade. Apparently it
wont let you connect unless you take your firewall down in some instances.

I don't to use aw's web browser ... I have mine set to use external browser
but now you can't click a world link from a website unless you do it in
*their web browser* ... I sure hope the fix that!

[View Quote] I'm running behind both a hardware and software firewall, including
router, over wireless and have no issues with connection.

Perhaps the user needs to update their firewall to allow connections
from the upgraded ActiveWorlds browser.

Well I'm running both a software and hardware firewall as well and I haven't
noticed anything either. I already figured it's not the browsers fault but
she has never had a problem before with AW concerning her firewall... so it
leaves it questionable.

I don't want to use aw's web browser, I already have a few that I choose to
have and those are my preferred browsers. At least they allow me to choose
not to use theirs. If they made it so theirs opened externally I might use
it ... but then why have yet another web browser? What purpose does it serve
.... is it more secure ... do they track where you go with it? Who knows why
they have one aside from convenience. I would prefer it opened outside of aw
so it doesn't take up my view screen for one thing.

[View Quote] What I meant was, when in your own browser you click on a teleport link,
a box should pop up asking you which program you would like to open the
file with, choose Active Worlds.

I did not mean what you read to understand.

Also, the built in ActiveWorlds browser is infact Internet Explorer. If
you do not have IE on your PC, you can't use the browser from what I know.

<<<

To achieve that, simply pick MSIE as your default browser and set AW to
open webpages externally. :-)

The security and tracking risk is actually in both cases the same, since
the AW browser is using the MSIE settings (which is why I cannot stress
often enough that you need to keep your MSIE absolutely actual and
revise all settings carefully, even when you never use MSIE and in AW
only use the internal web view!).

It doesn't.

I have IE (default, latest update), NS and Mozilla. When I click on a world
link in IE
nothing happens ... it's been like this since 2 or 3 updates ago.

Already did that ... I still can't click a world link from a browser not
aw's ... no worky :o/
World links clicked from IE don't work, but I'm told if you click a world
link from inside
aw's web browser it does work ... so they either changed it or they messed
it up about
2 or 3 updates ago ... clicking world links use to work just fine for me up
until recently.
I've heard the same from other users!

[View Quote] The missing/not working teleport links has nothing to do with the AW Browser updates - it is a pure coincidence. The whole problem lies somewhere else!!!
When AWI moved the OP server to another machine - they forgot to move the teleporting script there.
In other words:
If you have an objects.activeworlds.com/teleport.php?.... reference on a web page, the click only works if you are using the internal browser but if you replace the objects.activeworlds.com with www.activeworlds.com - it works (because the script exists on that server!).
One would ask why does it work in the integrated browser?
The answer is simple - AW never sends that link to the host - it is hard coded inside the AW browser code that it interprets the link locally :)

I hope it puts some light to that issue.
