Still, it would behoove you to get both browsers. Just because Netscape
is on your system doesn't mean you have to use it. (It won't bite, honest) That's really the only reason I still have IE on my comp, so I can actually see pages that were made by brainwashed IE users. ;P You can make the webpage in Notepad and look at it in NS to make sure it works, then you'll never have to open it again. How painless! :) [View Quote] -- Goober King Proof that Goobers ARE as dumb as they look. rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu --==USWF Website Updated==--Nov 15, 2000, 3:21pm
Well, for starters, the frame in the center of the page doesn't appear
in NS. (This is because NS doesn't recognize the IFRAME tag. If you want to do something like that, just use normal frames.) Also, the links do not change color when you hover over them. (another IE-specific feature) And when you click a link, it opens a new window. (again, I'm assuming, because there's no frame) Also the forms in NS look different than they do in IE. (IE look like flat grey boxes with a black border, and NS looks like the default white box with raised border) This is because there are no style properties for form elements in NS. (hopefully that will change come NN6) As I've said, IE does let you do more things with your website. However, since NS is more conservative in nature, websites that are tailored to NS are more robust. (I've never seen a webpage specifically made for NS that's crashed my browser) Yes, making a website cross-browser compatible is a pain in the ass, I'll admit that right up front. I seriously wish that both companies could agree on some HTML standard, but alas that's not the case. If you're truly interested making USWF well-known, you should make the site as compatible as possible so you can reach the widest range of people possible. Just assuming that everyone in AW has IE (or uses it) isn't the way to go about it. It's just good business sense. [View Quote] --==USWF Website Updated==--Nov 17, 2000, 1:41am
It's not that NS has any gaps in it... it's just that, at the time, NS
didn't want to risk putting in any complex HTML features that might crash the browser, or worse. (as some IE-recognized commands can do on not-so-great systems) However it seems that with NN6, they'll be ditching that philosophy for the most part. Of course, never having used it, I can only speculate based on rumors. Perhaps someone who has NN6 could give us a good comparison between that and IE? :) [View Quote] -- Goober King One fact he *does* know... Umm... where else is he going to put it? USWF is a community, and last I
checked this was the community newsgroup. Maybe you should bug COF and tell them to put in an ads NG or something. Yeesh. :P [View Quote] -- Goober King Wonders if Eep believes that the perfect NG is one which contains only himself... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu tired of you know what kind of people?Nov 19, 2000, 6:13am
Congratulations, Eep. You've succeeding in alienating yet another NG
user. Who knows? Maybe if you keep this up, there won't be anyone left in these NG but you. Wouldn't that just be perfect? I await your flame. [View Quote] -- Goober King Is finally starting to tire of Eep's shenanigans after four long years... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu tired of you know what kind of people?Nov 19, 2000, 6:14pm
I feel so honored.
My point is that these are not *your* newsgroups. These are COF's newsgroups, and according to the charter, the only rules are 1) keep posts on-topic, 2) they meet rules of netiquette and polite human interaction, and 3) posts are appropriate for a group forum (as opposed to individual emails). Now, let's review. Did Derek break any rules? Yes, #1. Should he be reprimanded? Of course. Should he be cussed out and insulted the second he steps in the door? I think not. That would be breaking rule #2, would it not? You also constantly bitch about insanely long threads, yet you are almost always the main contributors to these same threads, since you just *have* to have the last word. In the above mentioned thread you have 9 posts out of 27. That's a third of all posts. Another third is Derek trying to defend himself. The rest are various other people offering their opinion. (most of them against you) As the thread drags on, it becomes increasingly clear that it's just you vs. Derek, meaning you could easily have continued this dispute via email instead of polluting this NG with your bickering, thereby breaking rule #3. So who's the bigger offender here? Now granted, these NGs aren't moderated anymore, but I believe the rules still stand, and a measure of self-moderation should be enforced. If you had simply said "Beta NG is strictly for posts about beta bug reports. Put posts like this in the community NG.", you probably would have gotten a "oh sorry lol" and that would have been the end of it! But no, you had to hide behind the excuse that "he got on your nerves" and drag it out to horrendous lengths, thereby demonstrating even more incompetence. And as for these rules applying only to the community NG, I would like to think these rules implicitly apply to all NGs; just common sense. And if there's anyone who disagrees with me, (besides you, Eep) speak now and I'll shut up. Otherwise, I would suggest abiding by these rules before you make yourself look as incompetent as the rest of us. [View Quote] -- Goober King Oh whoops... too late... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu tired of you know what kind of people?Nov 19, 2000, 8:44pm
Hehehe... predictable as ever. I find it interesting that he'll argue
incessantly with people who do nothing more than say "hi" in the wrong newsgroup, but if you actually present him with a sound argument, he gives up and filters you. There's your solution, folks. You want Eep off your back? Throw some logic at him! :) [View Quote] -- Goober King Also finds it funny, since supposedly he's been filtered before this... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu wanna find someone?Nov 21, 2000, 1:25am
Umm, how about posting the site updates on your *site*, where they
*belong*? Isn't that where they're *supposed* to go? Why do you feel it necessary to clog the NGs with posts every time you change a link or add a new section? *boggle* If you're doing it just to piss people off, then trust me, you'll succeed *very* quickly. :P [View Quote] -- Goober King Figured he'd say it before Eep gets his mitts on it... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu wanna find someone?Nov 22, 2000, 12:56am

I'm getting some weird action with the beta NG as well. It doesn't ask
for a password, but it says that there are unread messages in it. (This is using Netscape's newsreader, btw) When I click on "beta", however, no messages appear, (I have it set to show only threads that have unread messages in them) but "beta" still remains bold. (meaning there are unread messages in it) When I click out of the NGs (i.e. email section) and click on "beta" again, still no messages appear, but "beta" becomes non-bold. (signifying no unread messages) Guess not *everyone* can read the beta NG... any ideas as to what's going on here? First of all, knowing Utopian Monarch, I find it hard to believe he
would go through this much trouble to post a bunch of lies. (Plus, I doubt he's that creative. :P) Second of all, why do you think he is attacking you? No where on this site is your named mentioned whatsoever, nor anywhere in the chat logs he posted. I realize you may be friends of some of the people mentioned on that site, and that's fine. But to somehow think that this is an indirect personal attack against you is just ludicrous, if not narcissistic. Thirdly, one would consider you no better for resorting to these tactics. If you think him wrong for posting such things, then work it out between you and he and get them removed. If anything, by posting the url, you'll probably invite *more* attention to it, thereby giving him incentive to continue doing such things. Fourthly, where does he attack Peacekeepers? Just be cause he doctored up a picture of m0e? (Which looks corrupted to me, btw. Didn't load all the way.) Still, one must wonder at the motives for posting such drivel on a website. Why would anyone care? I'll see if I can't talk to him about it. In the meantime, I suggest you stop acting like everyone's out to get you and just deal with it mano-a-mano. P.S. It should be noted that the site doesn't load in Netscape at all. Being 3AM in the morning and bored out of our skulls, my roommate (whom
some of you may know as Jeff Raven) and I came up with a nefarious plot. This plan would solve all of the problems in AW, while simultaneously allowing it to prosper and grow. And it can be boiled down to three simple words: Buy. Them. Out. Now, I know you must think I'm nuts, (anyone who already doesn't must be new here) but hear me out. I did some research into the financial/stock situation of ActiveWorlds.com, Inc. and came up with some rather interesting facts: • AWLD has a total of 8,602,762 shares outstanding. • Out of those shares, 5,024,013 shares are closely held, roughly %58.4 of the company shares. • Of those closely held shares, %29.7 (roughly 1,492,132 shares) is own by Rick Noll (ENZO) and %29.1 (roughly 1,461,988 shares) is owned by J.P. McCormick (Cryonics) • AWLD's current stock price is $1.03125 per share Now, what does all this mean? It means that no one person owns more than half of AWLD. Rick and JP own %58 of the company together, but if one were to stab the other in the back, all would be lost. Not only that, but someone else could buy only %60 of all stocks (roughly 5,161,657 shares) and control the Board of Directors, and thereby, the company. At $1.03 a pop, that comes to a measly $5,316,506.92! Of course, no one person in AW has that kind of money, otherwise I would think they'd have the commons sense to buy them out years ago. So what we were thinking is forming an ActiveWorlds Stock Group. Get a bunch of people together and pool our money to come up with the necessary $5.3 mil. Is it a risky scheme? Probably. Is it better than the alternative? (that being leaving Rick and JP in charge) I'd sure as hell like to think so. Think of it, we buy out AW and we'll be able to call the shots! AW for the people, by the people! Just picture the new staff we would have, and all the things that would actually get accomplished around here: President/CEO - Protagonist Business Management - Moria, Bonzer Software Development/Programming - Roland, Hamfon, Denette Customer Service/Technical Support - Flagg, Daphne, Dataman, AlphaBit Phalpha 3D Modeling - Young Shamus, Kalak of Tanagra, Just In Quality Assurance/Testing - Eep, Agent1 Webmaster/Advertising - Bille, Goober King *grin* Now is that a staff or what? :) These are just the names I could think of at the moment, but I'm sure there are many more people who would be perfectly willing to join in on this project. I'm assuming the only reason they haven't yet is because of real life stuff. (i.e. already have jobs and all that good stuff) Still, with this staff running the show, *no one* will have reason to complain. Everything people want to see done *will* get done. No secret agendas. No ignoring of customers. Simply things as it should be: AW for AW users. Oh well. I guess this is probably a long-shot anyway. People seem content to complain and complain, but not actually do anything to effect change. Well, I don't know what's going on between you two, but I talked to Just
In prior to this and his view was that he made the objects, so he can use them however he sees fit. Frankly, I think this whole thing could have been handled differently, but he does have a point. He made every single object and texture and they're his to do with as he sees fit. If he wants to make another world with them, there's not much you can do about it. As for vandalizing NewYork's OP, I can't fathom Just In would sink so low. If that's truly the case, (which I intend to discern after proper investigation) then as far as I'm concerned, Just In can join the ranks of Rick and JP as the scum of AW. First off, Gor is NOT a culture, NOR a lifestyle. It is role-playing, pure and simple. In the same way geeks will gather to play fantasy adventures in Dungeons & Dragons, so too do Gor followers go to Gor worlds to act out Gor ways. (Not to suggest that Gors are geeks ;)) That being said, what I think Lonesome Dove was getting at was that any person with a semblance of sanity should know when to turn off "Gor mode" and turn on "Normal mode". The problem with Gor is not really the master/slave issue, or the sex acts, it's the fact that some people lose touch with reality while experiencing Gor and eventually come to believe the Gor reality as fact. They honestly believe that they are a master/slave and it affects how they act in the real world. It is this fear, I believe, that causes this discrimination: that if someone were to get involved with Gor, they would get sucked in as well. (Doesn't really say much about their self confidence, does it? :)) Personally, I have no problem with Gor. If someone were to tell me they were Gor, I wouldn't blanch or cuss them out. However if someone were to act out Gor in my presence, I would act much in the same way I would act if someone ran up to me shouting "I attack you with +4 Sword of Death!" I would wonder if perhaps it was a joke, then seeing they were actually serious, I'd try to snap them back to reality. Frankly, I think anyone who truly honestly believes that Gor should be a way of life should seek help. For all intents and purposes, Gor is a GAME, nothing more. Anyone who gets lost in the game, needs to realize where they are and what they're doing, before they end up affecting more than just their master/slave... Good lord, people. You all replied to my post, yet it seems none of you
actually READ it! Gor ISN'T a culture, it's a GAME. G-A-M-E! People role-play in a mideval/gothic setting and play out the parts of masters and slaves. It's NOT a way of life. Do you honestly think Masters have control of their Slaves even if they aren't in the same room/world, or even if they aren't online, for that matter? No, because anything Gor only applies when the two people decide to be in "Gor mode". The problem some people have with it is when people stay in "Gor mode" even when they aren't in a Gor designated area. (i.e. Bingo) It would be the same thing if two kids came into Bingo and started having an imaginary Pokemon battle. There are times and places for everything, and last I checked, Bingo was a world to play Bingo in, not role-playing. As I said before, if someone decided to stay in Gor mode 24/7, I'd be a little worried. But I should hope that the average Gorean knows the difference between fantasy and reality, and in a public forum, one should leave one's fantasies at the door. I apologize if I haven't memorized all of Gor dogma, but what I have
seen of it has told me all I need to hear. My basic understanding was that some guy (conveniently forgotten his name) wrote a series of books about people using cyberspace and virtual reality to teach younger generations their ways, which included how to act like a slave, and eventually becoming masters of their own slaves, etc, etc. Some people, as you stated, decided to take it a step further and role-play off it. Others, which I find rather disturbing, have decided to take it as their guideline for life. Again, I apologize if perhaps my understanding of it isn't correct, but what I've seen on Gor sites and have been told by people claiming to be of Gor has lead me to these conclusions. Perhaps I only ran into the folks who were of the role-playing mindset and wrongfully assumed they were in the majority. My apologies. Nevertheless, regardless of who treats it as a game and who does not, I find it *very* disturbing that someone would take essentially a work of fiction and turn it into their Word of Law. I highly doubt the original author of these Gor books intended to have people actually follow his so-called "teachings". Although I myself have never read any of the Gor books, I'd wager a guess that the author's original intent of writing these books was to comment on humans becoming slaves of technology, and using technology to create more slaves, thereby continuing the cycle. Again, that's just my theory, and you may take it or leave it as you wish. Still, the idea that you chose to live in a fantasy world (someone ELSE's fantasy world, I might add) demonstrates to me that you aren't that grounded at all. It would be akin to me deciding I'm going to live according to Elvish law as dictated in the Silmarillion. I'll study the Elvish dialect, learn their mannerisms, dress as they do, and live out in the woods and become one with nature. Sounds like the good life to me! :P I'm sorry, but people who take Gor seriously are on a one-way trip to the funny farm. At least they need to get out more. Y'know, I've listened to Legion's rants for quite some time now. I've
watched him rile up Eep, et al, in a failed attempt at humor. I've watched him throw mindless accusations left and right in some misguided effort of AW loyalism. But now I grow weary of his stupidity, especially when he attacks not just a business partner, but also a friend's organization. It has always been clear to me, Leg, that you've never had all your marbles when it comes to posting, and I think it's time for you to stop. Stop posting mindless banter. Stop posting empty accusations. And stop wasting our time. I'm not even going to bother trying to point out all of the wrongs you speak of in your post, because I know it won't sink in. But before I bid you farewell, I'll give you these few pieces of advice to take with you: 1.) AW is NOT going to sue you. Period. You can stop kissing their ass because they won't even acknowledge you. 2.) Stop idolizing Eep. Lord knows he has a big enough ego already, he doesn't need a shadow trying to emulate him on top of it. 3.) Get all your facts straight before posting. Going off on some mindless rant just because of one chat session is bound to get you in trouble, among other things. I could go on, but again it would probably be wasted on you. And for those of you who think this harsh, I have had to deal with Legion on *numerous* occasions, not just here in the NGs, and frankly I'm sick of it. This kid needs to grow up and start acting like a real person before he winds up saying the wrong thing to the wrong person and gets himself in *real* trouble. I've tried my best to set him straight, but alas to no avail. If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, go right ahead. This is the last time I will address him directly; after this, he's on his own. Goodbye Legion. He left out a slash in the name... it's actually United States/Worlds

First thing's first: Lay off the crack, dude. Secondly, learn how to puncuate. Thirdly, nowhere in Nornny's post did he label USWF as "bullshit". That was Legion, not Nornny, get your facts straight.
