Maybe because it's an unnecessary waste of time to download it. Kinda like this reply. : )

If you really want do down-size the message stop including the original
message in the reply.

eep

Nov 16, 2000, 2:30pm
At LEAST the message you are replying to (or parts of it) should be quoted in your reply. The referred-to message isn't always available on news servers (most have short expiration dates, although AW's don't seem to expire, but AWCI is flaky in its archiving, as is evidenced by the now defunct "discussion" and "awcommunity" newsgroups. At any rate, it's annoying having to click on the message you're replying to just to see what the hell it is you're referring to.

HTML posts are just annoyingly large and even more annoying when idiots like Tony56 reply with a single line. His posts tend to exceed the original message's size by 5 times which is just ridiculous for his worthless replies anyway. I'm almost to the point of filtering for that fact of his incompetence alone...

This is one of the reasons I rip on clueless newbies so much. If they can't take the time to learn about offsets between download time and display, and learn how to use their programs (like enabling wordwrap, for example), they shouldn't be using the Net, software, or computers in the first place. This is one of the problems I have with Microsoft dumbing down Windows so clueless idiots can attempt to use it (My this and My that, and now their lame misspelling of WinME as WinMe--lame-ass bullshit). I will continue to rip on people until they learn how to properly and effectively use their computers and not annoy the shit out of me and other people in the process. And don't even THINK of mentioning my line length because it's EASILY fixed by simple enabling wordwrap, which any computer user should know how to do anyway--PERIOD.

<shrug> I don't force line lengths (well, only the highest possible limit since Netscape Messenger can't disable them). http://tnlc.com/eep/wordwrap.html to learn why.

There is a related post by Technozeus at the Beta NG [April 13 2000, Subject: Re: quoted text (was Re: What is ras?)]. The only way to increase line length beyond 132 chars in OE or Outlook is to go through registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{A12A0416-9869-43FB-9384-9038B2DF16B7}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0\News\Message Plain Character Line Wrap

Right click/Modify. Value 7fff (32767 chars) seems to work best. You can do the same for email if you want in the \mail key.

Its the insults and derogatory text. Its completely uncalled for.
Just because someone doesn't have the PC knowledge of another, doesnt mean they
should be cut into peices.
If thats ok.. then ppl like Eep should be sodomised by large grizzly bears.
and then hacked up in to lil peices and placed in tubes and shot into space
towards the sun.
Though Eeps brain should be kept and cut into urinal pucks for men to urinate on
in bathrooms.

I don't enjoy it. Unfortunately, most people don't always understand why I do the things I do until MUCH later (if at all) after MUCH bickering. This is one reason why people should not TRY to understand what I do and simply accept it and move on. I sure as fuck don't try to understand everyone who posts here. Some, like Derek, are completely transparent which is why I immediately rip on them for their incompetence.

All it achieves is losing the original point on the post (assuming there was

Either chill or leave, take your pick. He only says things are off topic
when they are, which they frequently have been since you arrived. Now I
quote the lame community charter at the top of this group...
"News.activeworlds.com/community newsgroup is for anyone who is
interested in AW and who can follow Usenet newsgroup netiquette, basic
rules of polite human interaction" Granted, this group isn't moderated
anymore, but I don't think cussing people out follows basic rules of
polite human interaction. This may sound a little eep-like but congrats
on the filter.

I'm not the one who incompetently posted an off-topic introductory message to the beta newsgroup, Grimble. Stop missing this BASIC, SIMPLE, CRUCIAL point, please. The POINT of my response is to PREVENT other dimwitted twits from doing the same. Duh. Stop making a fucking federal case out of this and simply accept that his post IS off-topic and lay off ME for simply pointing out the obvious to someone so clueless.

Ooohh...... Eep.

I was just levelling the playing field a bit. You made the "off-topic" point
in your FIRST post on this thread.

Don't start on me "sport", because I make sure now that I am not picking on,
targeting or being unfair (in my view) to YOU. All my posts in response to
yours are exactly what I would say to your face. You are NOT being picked on
here.

I'm almost getting to the point where I'll simply ignore such responses...almost...keep it up and you'll be thrown in my filter along with all the other twits.
