(O/T) How to break your copy of Windows 98

If I read the exchange table right, one Kroner is worth something like $0.11, so even if what you said is true, your original point is wrong :)

I don't see any details on any of your services on the site... Give me a reason to consider using your "company" as opposed to the others :)

Don't feed the trolls. Anyway, your post seems to have quite a bit of profanity as well.

It's been on AW's site for as long as I've been a registered citizen (Back in Nov 99, I believe).

http://www.activeworlds.com/community/terms.asp is the current URL.

I wouldn't use AW Ear... it was made by Radon. He wrote the Stockquotebot that apparently had trojan code in it.

Try Control Panel and the Speech icon.

Well, before someone had to run around and change all of the welcome messages on the AWC worlds. Now those can stay the same and the Universe message can be modified. I think this way is better than before.

From what I've seen of those tools and my minimal (almost none) knowledge of VB, I think all his tools did was use the equivalent of SendKeys (they might have been in some sort of Pascal... Delphi?). You could probably make your own.

If they can see the page on their system, they can get everything on it. All of your images are downloaded to the user's computer and opened locally.

But really, if you can see it, you can steal it :) Someone could just use printscreen to steal images. If it's just layout that the person's worried about, that's a little harder, but I would assume the HTML is stored in memory somewhere while the browser renders it anyway.

That would definately deter "casual copying", though :)

Now that's a pretty good idea. Would be really annoying to anyone trying to get the image(s), too :)

Just have to make sure those tables work the same in the major browsers. Wouldn't want one of them to show a bunch of table crap in your logo :)

is anyone ealse having V scan problems?

Nov 22, 2001, 12:26pm
It's not possible to force someone to accept an FTP connection. Even if it was, your computer wouldn't do anything with the data it did recieve unless you were running an FTP server that was totally open to the public. Can someone jog my memory, because I seem to recall there being a trojan horse named NetBus...

Anyway, you can't be "hacked" unless your computer is extremely insecure or you blindly run executables as a root/administrator user (always the case in Windows 98/95).

Nov 23, 2001, 2:54pm
Uhh... I don't care what you saw on TV. It still remains that, as Bowen said, the system would have to be compromised before the person could "hack" the machine. Connecting through DOS doesn't do anything special, so I don't see how that's relevant. Anyway, they can't get into your computer unless it is already insecure.

You can't make a new "folder type". You'd probably have to edit some Windows binary somewhere and replace the default folder icon. But that would change them all.

That doesn't do anything if they are assigned to a different subnet on re-connection. That may even block the wrong IP address -- is xxx.xxx.xxx.0 a valid IP address?

MSIE Issues

Nov 28, 2001, 8:11pm
Uhh... since IE replaces things internal to Windows, I doubt you were able to fully "downgrade" anything. Try reinstalling the latest version of IE from Microsoft and *official* drivers from ATI. Otherwise, no one can really help you out because we don't know how your system is really (even if in general) configured.

It doesn't matter what the about window says :) Your computer currently has some sort of IE 6/5 hybrid.
