MSIE Issues (General Discussion)
MSIE Issues // General Discussion
Nov 28, 2001, 7:03pm
If I load up MSIE and enter a URL like: "yahoo.com" it gives me that error
popup with the "send bug report" button and everything...then I have to
reboot my comptuer or else I get one about every minute until my computer
locks up.
I beleive the same things happen if I go to a subdomain URL without entering
http:// (like entering "shopping.yahoo.com").
I noticed this after I installed the *cough*leaked*cough* drivers for my ATI
Radeon, and also after I installed MSIE 6.0
I uninstalled MSIE (yeah I figured out how to do that crudely if you want to
downgrade) and put 5.5 SP2 back on...I still have the problem. Running in
Winblows 98 SE (I'm *NOT* going to XP until the ability of my computer to
run depends on it!)
If anyone knows why this is happening or how I can fix it...reply >_<

Uhh... since IE replaces things internal to Windows, I doubt you were able to fully "downgrade" anything. Try reinstalling the latest version of IE from Microsoft and *official* drivers from ATI. Otherwise, no one can really help you out because we don't know how your system is really (even if in general) configured.

Solution: Use Netscape 6.2, problem solved. Trust me, you'll thank me
later. :)

Netscape seems pretty nice.

Actually... I've done this before. I searched through my registry and found
all of the strings relating to IE...and I threw them out. Then I deleted the
program files. Now of course there will be small remnants in some core
windows files (most likely...but I don't want to fool around with those) but
the program is essentially gone. To downgrade I just deleted the program
files and its registry entries...then I downloaded MSIE 5.5 SP2...and in the
about window it does read "version 5.5..."

I entered 'yahoo.com' and 'shopping.yahoo.com' in MSIE 6 with no problem.
Using Windows 98SE.

It doesn't matter what the about window says :) Your computer currently has some sort of IE 6/5 hybrid.
