Anybody know how to turn the Microsoft Agent's voice back on? AW Ear
doesn't speak anymore for some reason. -- SW Chris Eagle Scout, Philosopher, Peacemaker, and... Kung Fu Master? http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html agent1Oct 29, 2001, 6:49pm
I wouldn't use AW Ear... it was made by Radon. He wrote the Stockquotebot that apparently had trojan code in it.
Try Control Panel and the Speech icon. -Agent1 [View Quote] goober kingOct 29, 2001, 11:36pm
AW Ear is a legitimate program and contains no trojans or viruses or
hacks whatsoever. You have nothing to fear from that program, at least. [View Quote] > I wouldn't use AW Ear... it was made by Radon. Nothing about Microsoft Agent there. It's not a sound issue per se. The
Agent's mouth doesn't move like it always did when he spoke. All my other sounds work correctly, so it's not a driver problem. SW Chris [View Quote] kahOct 30, 2001, 5:41pm
download the Agent controlpanel thing, available on agent.microsoft.com I
think (or just use their search thing) KAH [View Quote] brantOct 30, 2001, 7:46pm
Well, it might not send information over the Internet, but that's not to say
that it doesn't do something behind the scenes - it could delete a file or do something that you don't know about. -Brant [View Quote] goober kingOct 31, 2001, 2:16am
When's the last time you heard anyone complaining about AW Ear, saying
it had wiped their hard drive or crashed their computer? When AW Ear first came out, people were downloading it and using it all over the place, and Radon was actually sincere about its success. It's unfortunate that someone like that can go so wrong so quickly. The saddest part was that he was actually proud of his actions and actually expected to get *rewarded* for it. Such a shame... :( Still, you all have seen what Radon is capable of, and *not* capable of. Face it, he was just a script kiddie who managed to fool some people with his other programs. I think you give Radon way too much credit when you say he's capable of making a program as malicious as wiping out files. it won't do that, I took the freedomof checking it with a hex editor when
the StockQuoteBot was revealed, didn't find maliceous code in it. KAH [View Quote] baronOct 31, 2001, 4:12pm
Um no offence KAH but it's way too complicated. Malicious code can be and usually is invisible in hex except if you are an assembly wizard. To me Agent1 has a valid point, if you don't trust the developer do not run his/her executables. If you find Radon trustworthy I guess it's fine to use it.

Oh wait... could upgrading to AW 3.2 affect this? Someone try it please.
It worked with 3.1 -- SW Chris Eagle Scout, Philosopher, Peacemaker, and... Kung Fu Master? http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html [View Quote] goober kingOct 31, 2001, 10:29pm
Well, let's put it this way: He *was* trustworthy when he made AW Ear.
But somehow, he got corrupted along the way (he blames Gavaroche's little world hack stunt) and then became *un*trustworthy. [View Quote] > Um no offence KAH but it's way too complicated.
