A new idea for the Community...

Jan 15, 2005, 1:44am
I am basing this off of a fairly new holiday, its a couple of years old, but
its popularity is already becoming widespread.

http://www.wintereenmas.com/ Winter-een-mas is a new holiday for the Video
Gaming Community. It is celebrated in January, more specifically on the
25th through the 31st.

Not wanting AW to be left out of the fun, I started brainstorming an idea.
How about we all pitch in and get an Annual Winter-een-mas AWGames Day
started? Think about it for a moment, if you will. AWGames world is
probably the most neglected AWI world with the most potential for
delevopment and/or growth. So how about we show it some light, and have a
big old party in there some time through the official week of
Winter-een-mas? I'm sure we could organize something good together, get
AWI involved perhaps?

Also, to all the AW RPG's out there, this might be a good time to throw a
special event of your own.

If the community really wants this pulled off though, everyone is going to
have to pitch in. All of us put together collectively can come up with
something pretty great, I am sure.

Homopobic Gatekeeper?

Jan 26, 2005, 11:12pm
While this problem is simple to solve for you, simply staying away from the
gate would suffice, I can't help but wonder what the responce of a newcomer
to aw, who didn't have a choice to not enter the gate, and had been placed
in the same situation would have reacted to that like.

Oh, and, this is one of the reasons why my home world is Teengate. :p

Reason why Alphaworld GZ never changes?

Feb 23, 2005, 8:46pm
I'll echo pretty much what everyone else has said. AlphaWorld is a great
world, it does deserve regular updates and improvements. As a previous
poster mentioned, just this simple act of maintaining the world and keeping
it up to par with the citizens will be a great move for support of AWI by
the users.

Heck, updating AlphaWorld might even be... fun! :O

get for upgrading to that.

Mar 10, 2005, 2:17am
All of you guys using supporting history as an arguement to not update
alphaworld are confusing me a little bit. There is a world called AWGZ,
which I believe has a propdump of the alphaworld ground zero going out for
50 coordinates. We could use a simile and consider that a museum, a place
where history can be without affecting progress.

You also say that tourists make their impressions in awgate. This is also a
debatable notion. If tourists see alphaworld and pick up on the drastic
change in building style and quality, they'll probably be turned off to the
idea of joining. They are new potential customers, they want to know what
the program can do for them, and most of them probably don't give two hoots
about the history of alphaworld yet.

Another arguement: Can't the Alphaworld Historical Society find a way to
keep history stored up in the world without affecting progress? Take for
example, awteen. It's ground zero is updated four times every year, and
when its updated, the older one is moved out into the fields and a teleport
to it is set up so people can go check it out for nostalgia, reference, etc.
If this happens in Alphaworld, even though there is already a whole world
set as a propdump of ground zero, history can be preserved and progress will
not be hindered.

I really don't understand your arguement. It's really, really easy to come
to a compromise in a situation like this.

Complains lol

AWTeen Events: What's new in April

Apr 8, 2005, 7:52pm
First off, for all of you who don't visit AWTeen, AWTeen Events is run by a
small group of people who work, build, and create events and games in AWTeen
World to provide the AWTeen Community with something more to do than merely
build. I'll be representing them throughout this post.

The AWTeen Events Team has just recently completed our latest project: Back
due to popular demand, AWTeen Paintball. It's been absent for over a year
now, but its back and ready with brand new fields, which will be different
every week to keep the game fresh. These will take place every saturday at
5 P.M. VRT, and will be played for prizes you have a chance of winning at
the end of the month.

Due to the nature of Paintball, however, during the hour or so the event
will take place, Shift, Fly, and Local Teleports will be disabled. So to
all you builders who don't plan on participating, be sure to get to your
build before these rights are disabled, or find something in real life to
do, maybe clean up that mess you've been holding off? ;)

We are also looking for more members of our team to help provide events to
the world. If you would like to join the team, check
http://www.awteen.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=167 for more information. A
special job that isn't on that topic, however, is the AWTeen Trivia host.
We need a host who can run Trivia on a stable date either weekly or
bi-weekly, depending on your schedule. If you feel capable of undertaking
this, and can come up with a fresh set of questions every week, please email
awtevents at gmail.com with all the application requirements listed in the
aforementioned topic.

Don't let the name scare you, there are more folks here than teenagers!
Anyone who wants to particpate is welcome to check the events out, and
remember: Check your friendly neighborhood AWTeen Immigration Officer for
updates about these events.

After a small hitch with the bot, we started Paintball back up in AWTeen for
the first time in over a year. I must say that it went well for our first
try, and we got over 30 people listed on the score/deaths list, so we
doubled our goal.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated this week, as well as the team
who helped build and test the field, and also the caretakers AlexTheMartian
and Allen Iverson, who set the IO message for us and saved the event when my
computer/copy of the paintball bot proved to be inept.

Thanks everybody!

AWTeen Events: What's new for May

May 2, 2005, 1:24am
Hi everybody! This is our second edition of the new AWTeen Events
newsletter I'm going to be sending around to various AW News Organizations
or Discussion groups about what's going in this month. Sit tight, because
I've got all kinds of news about events both new and old!

May will begin our programs to help promote towns in AWTeen. Over the month
we'll begin launching our first Town-Related AWTeen Event, but I'll fill you
guys in on that later in the article. Right now, I am pleased to tell you
that we've made it through our first full month since the team was re-formed
in March. We have had 70+ people participate in AWTeen Events in April, and
thats a great number. I'm really glad to see that the community can come out
and have fun here, and hope that we get a repeat of that in May

Of course, we'll be continuing our regular events. AWTeen Games Night, and
AWTeen Paintball will continue at their regular times, which you can find on
the AWTeen Forums if you need to check on that.

Build your own Paintball Course!

Also, relating to paintball, I want to announce that we'll be holding a
"Build your own paintball course" contet all through the month of May. You
have until the last day of May to build up your own Paintball Course, and
the winner will recieve 20 AWTeen Events Points for the month of June. What
a good way to start the summer!

Requirements for the course include:

-Must not exceed 15x15 coordinates
-Some area above ground (0.0 meters)
-Has at the very least a broad theme. No walking out of a big space station
into a farm in Kansas.
-Must be built by you if you want all the points. Courses built by groups
will have the points split among them.

And of course, we'll keep bringing you new courses as long as we have them.
Unless of course they don't work right, and have to switch back to an older
course for the day, but hey, it's a learning experience, and you guys have
been a great and respectful crowd during that time despite all the bugs.

Town Wars

So with that said, I want to go ahead and announce our new event for Towns
in AWTeen. Its called Town Wars, and quite simply, its a speed building
contest. The event contests two towns against each other, with the
participants from each town and building Judges there. The rules basically
go like this...

The event starts with the Host (can be an MC or one of the Judges if one is
not available) announces the theme of what will be built. After that, the
mayor has 15 minutes to build up and detail an area where the other
participants from his/her town will build. The mayor's goal is to make the
area around the lots fit in with the lots as best as possible, without
showing any defining line between the two. After this, the mayor will have
several minutes to talk to his/her team before the rest of the team goes
into action.

The town citizens then begin to build. They have 30 minutes to build up
their individual lots. The lots can vary in size, depending on how big the
mayor makes them. Their goal is to make the lot match the theme, look good,
and fit in perfectly with the area surrounding it. The team who builds have
to be members of the town they build for at least one week before the game,
and can only build for one town in the game. After that, the judges come in,
and have 10 minutes to rank towns 1-10 in the criteria of: Teamwork, overall
area appeal, creativity, and how well it fit the theme.

Throughout the month of May, we will have these events as soon as towns who
join set up a date. If we have enough towns participate in Town Wars, we
hope to start a "season" of sorts, where the towns will go through a whole
season that leads into a final tournament. This, of course, can only happen
if enough towns participate. If you have a town in AWTeen and would like to
participate in Town Wars, please contact Hyper Anthony through telegram, or
the AWTeen Events Team through email. Just e-mail awtevents at gmail.com with
your town name, coordinates, and a residents list (or provide coordinates to
one) and we'll have you on call for a game. The good thing about the games
is that they will be totally flexible to both towns. Both town mayors need
to agree upon a time, and then schedule it with us.

We are also looking for Building Judges. This is not an easy task, and it
will unfortunatly bar you from participation in the actual building during
the tournament, if there is one, or if you are judging the current game.
Guidelines for judges are as follows

-Been a member of Active Worlds for at least one year.
-Has a firm, thourough understanding of the browser.
-Has a firm grasp on building and how to critque it.
-Understands the Criteria the Town's build on and will judge based solely on
it and not with previous experience with the participants.

If you feel you can handle the job and are a capable judge, please contact
awtevents at gmail.com and we'll get back to you.

Until next month...

At the moment, this is what we have planned for May in the world of AWTeen
Events. If anything new comes up during the month, updates are up as soon as
we get the information on the AWteen Forums. Be sure to check regularly, and
good luck to everyone who participates in the events in May!

-Hyper Anthony
