Dear Activeworlds Community,

Lady TeaL and I have been on the phone all morning regarding our
personal lives and the Cys.
In the past I have tried to hand the Cys over, to no avail.
This past year Lady TeaL graciously offered to take them on, with my
guidance.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to spend any time in "virtual"
because of real life challenges.
There is no way Lady TeaL could possibly do all that is needed to see
the Cys through with no training etc. She's fantastic, but not superwoman:)
The Cy Awards nominations this year were very weak in participation.
I think it's time they were laid to rest:)....no...I KNOW it.
Many times folks have told me that the Cys are linked to the AlphaBit
Phalpha citizen. I think I finally realize that.
Lady TeaL and I are both in agreement, that the Cys will end as of this
posting.
Now folks, for those of you that have wanted to start an awards event,
the door is now open:)
I would highly recommend selecting a new name for them though.
Over the next months we will be getting the pages and world updated to
current winners etc. And then we will ask AWI to let the world and pages
exist as a historical event. Lady TeaL and I might even put our retirement
houses in there somewhere if we can find a nice teal victorian house and a
purple one....lol
Anyways, ya'll have been the most wonderful people and CommunitY, and I
am hoping you will agree to our decisions.
If not, I'm not sure who to send you to to discuss them, since as of
this posting Lady TeaL and I are no longer involved.
Please don't gram or email us regarding the Cys. It's hard enough just
having the time to post this.
Thank you all ever so much for all your help and support, and God
Bless:)

Sincerely,

Lady TeaL and AlphaBit Phalpha

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Bittie and
Teal)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I can relate to not having
the time to do AW events because of RL commitments. I know it must've been a
difficult decision for you to come to. You both have my prayers and my
blessings. I do hope everyone can understand why this had to happen. In my
opinion, if someone isn't happy about it, then perhaps they can take it over
and deal with all the demands and energy that is involved in pulling it
together to please everybody. You have done an outstanding job, both of
you.... You poured your hearts and souls into it and for what? Criticism and
nitpicking. Unfortunately there aren't enough people interested in it to
help do it or take it over. Best of luck to you both and God bless. We still
love you both. ;-") (Wonders now if some people will still be
putting all their creativity into their builds 0_0 . I hope so!! )

Thanks Lioness:)
And thanks for understanding!:)
As far as criticism and nitpicking....there was more support than
complaints, plus complaints are part of growth!:)
We are hoping no one will want to "take them over".
I think as long as they are named "Cy's" people will still associate them
with me, which is not a good thing!...lol
Anyways...thanks again and take care!

That just ended my lifelong AW dream to win a Cy award.

Anyways, it was a good run. WTG to Teal and Alpha. I respect your decision
nevertheless.

Very very sad. I hope now that someone may take over and have a new awards
system.

Real sad to see them go, but it makes me feel good to know that there are
people out there who would dedicate so much of their own time to such a
large undertaking and get little more than a thank you.

You guys did a good job, especially you Phalpha. :)

[View Quote] I think the beginning of the end for CY is when AW's servers were so messed
up for so long. Nobody could vote.
Emailing votes was probably confusing to some.

Personally, I'm not sorry to see it end. Seems to me there was more fighting
about who "should of" won and accusations of "voter fraud" than there was a
celebration of truely marvelous and imaginative builds.

I don't like contests in the first place. I don't think anybody should be
made to feel they "lost out" to a better builder. Perhaps there could be a
Tport spot somewhere in AW where ppl could enter coords to a build they are
proud of? Or maybe somebody else could organize an award contest similar to
CY for those who look forward to that type of contest every year? I'm sure
somebody will come up with something.

First off, I would just like to thank Alphabit Alpha and Lady TeaL on the
work they put forth on the CyAwards. I am sad to see it go, but am appalled
at Strike Rapier's response.

The CyAwards have benefited AW more than your gimp self has. I stand here
waiting to see what adept dry run project you can come up with that will try
to hold a flame to the CyAward's glory.

Definitely sad to see them go, but great to see that you have worked to
preserve it for historical purpose. I agree that whatever replaces the CY
Awards should be called something different, the work put into it and the
integrity it held make it a classic to AW and that should stay that way for
all time.

Thanks AlphaBit for making AW a great place for so long, and may the
things that take your time now be as great as the joy you put into the
community here, and to you Lady TeaL thanks for trying your best to keep a
great thing going. Real Life just always seems to get the best of em hehe.
Good Luck to those wishing to come up with something new, these shoes are
not so easily filled.

Please don't comment on what you don't know about Drew :)

After having my telegrams list scrolling for the last 2 hours - Things are
looking like there is another possibility that lets us maintain our CY
awards... but help is needed! Plans are being concopted as I type.

After deliberating with Lady Teal for a good hour and a half we have
identified several critical failures that can be fixed efficently with the
correct people helping.

First of all the main problem is the voting system; simply put this is
static web based, we can fix this easily using some slightly modified bot
technology and a decent database. Proper technological support.

Secondly we identified a lack of hosts, to this end I have asked Poseidon to
be a presenter, I am also trying to contact IHNK, a CY mainstay, to see if
he is available.

Thirdly, security and organisation - We have already identified several PK
people this last hour who could provide good mannered security, and at the
same time assist in making sure people are where they need to be. This can
be supported by technology.

Building, I am sure the likes of Ferruccio, Digigurl, and other builders
would be more than happy to vaulenter their time to creating an amazing
setup for us.

We have audio available to us from AWRadio, as Goober K has expressed strong
interest in hosting the audio for it.

Lady Teal may not have as much time as she could possibly have for it, but
she is still the best forefront we have available for it, and I know
perfectly well from my extensive time in AW that there are people in AW
(some given above) that have the skill to do what we need to get this up and
get it going with enormous success.

We have got this together in just 2 hours (with multitasking), because the
main thing it takes is communication, and if I can put something together to
take on what CY means then I will sure as hell do it. Thats where everyone
else comes in.

What do you want to be involved in, do you want to submit ideas, places or
people for awards, do you want to provide extra events or services? What the
heck are waiting for? Lady Teal wasnt aware of the level of support that
could be put into the CY's from other people, and now she is - So get off
your arses and lets do it.

Also, we need 5 people, hard workers - who could help index the nominations,
I assure you with advanced technology playing its role this will go at light
speed, but the human touch is always needed.

CY Awards doesnt mean a lot to some people, but I am one of the people who
has wanted one since I started doing something in AW, in my case working in
AWTeen, support, and making bots. Yes we could have a new awards event, but
the CY's actually MEAN something to the people who want to earn them...

1 idea, upto 50 designers, developers, assistants and managers, upto 600
visitors, a futher 500 reading about the night afterwards... does that sound
good to you all? Because thats what I think we should aim for.

It's more important that people build with, rather than against eachother.

Some of the problems that arose were quite hurtful to many people where CY's
were concerned. Such as; the fact that it was so sad when one person got
rewarded for the extensive time and efforts of sooooo many others. That I
think was the worst slap in the face to those other citizens and proved that
CY was a little groupy clique in lots of cases. Another thing is that an
award should not be handed out by anyone other than AWI staff since it only
makes for cliques and where there are those there follows unfairness.

One person, who is not AWI staff, ought not be queen or king of everyone
else's creativeness. Creativeness is owned by no one other than the
creator. How can one put themself above the rest and determine the fate of
all of those citizens who pay their fair share to be here? I appreciate the
1st rock built by a new citizen more than a CY any day.

Lastly , CY ought to be left in history and should not be carried ahead and
morphed into something else by yet another group of those who wish to be one
up on others.

alphabit phalpha

Mar 12, 2005, 1:29am
Well that depends on a persons meaning of dying possibly.
Human's die, but do they die permanently or just for a while or do they
really die or are they reborn?
Just rhetorical questions....(not meaning to start a religous discussion
that will turn into a flame war...lol
A tree can die, but through it's death it nurtures the life of something
else, so did it actually die?
Deep stuff here:)

Therefore, how do you say to someone, that they have perminantly lost their
chance to win a CY, something that they have perhaps been aiming towards for
maybe 5, 6 years.

If you have a CY awards, you have a chance of winning one, bear in mind that
a lot of these awards are for achievement as judged by the general AW
communnity, I certainally do not want to go appointing 10 judges to decide
who's achievement in something is better than someone elses.

Then of course we have those for effort and community, really, how can
anyone else judge a persons effort? Simple answer is you can't, but what you
can express by voting for someone is how that person's effort has benefitted
you. A large community may win an award, and granted, a smaller, newer
community may not, because it will not have advanced as much, but if there
is a CY award the year after, and the year after that then what was that
smaller community, will have grown and may then be the one to win the votes.

Its human nature to compete.

I am profoundly impressed with you Mark. I had no idea you were this
interested in the Cy's and am very proud of you my friend. = ) With all
the valuable contacts you have around AW, you have managed to organize what
is needed within a very short amount of time. I am not sure of what I can do
to help, or the time I can contribute, but I hope there is something I can
do. Again... outstanding in your efforts! Glad someone could find the time
and energy necessary to pull it all together. It would be great to see Cy's
continue. = )
