Andras' World Monitor Bot (chkwrld)

Jun 4, 2006, 4:58am
I guess this should really be directed at Andras, since its his bot.

I'm sure that you've got a ton of things to do already and this isn't a
priority, but I've always enjoyed the charting features of this bot. Its
simple and great for quick reference. Just wondering if there a 4.1 version
on the horizon?

Thanks,
Blue.

The Toolbar

Mar 2, 2005, 9:08pm
Hello,

I've been playing around with the toolbar, making buttons and so on. I
think that it has a lot of potential in a lot of different ways. Anyway, I
was thinking it would be neat if the toolbar feature was expanded to allow
for built in to the browser switching of which one you used. Say if you went
into a certain world and in that world there was extra buttons that had
specific uses in it for that world.

Id love to see all kinds of full integration with it but more simple and
practical I am sure, the ability to select which one you use when you when
you are in a world. So that way if a world owner wanted to offer the users a
toolbar that was unique to their world they could have the ability to choose
their normal or custom toolbars on the fly and not need to shutdown and edit
the filename to change them.

I'm not sure if at some point it wasn't already suggested or if
something in the works, but It would be an awesome feature to really get
some good use out of the toolbar.

The Toolbar

Oops, LOL

Actually there is the feature in settings that you can use to change it I
forgot about. My bad. But it still would be neat to have it change on entry
to a world or make it selectable form the actual toolbar area itself.

VWTV and their so called "factual information"

Sep 28, 2004, 5:09pm
Hello Community, Long time no post, I've been quite busy working on several
projects and have had little time to catch up. Anyway, The reason I decided
to post this message is recent activity and propaganda have reached a height
that I am unable to contain my thoughts. I speak entirely on my own and only
represent myself. Let it also be said I am in no way spamming anything. I
recently was alerted to the existence of a website that is on the VWTV
server, http://rb.vwtv.org/awrpg/. I'm sure that after it is exposed it will
suddenly disappear, after all that's what these types of people do when they
are found out, hide. First off I believe that people are entitled to their
opinion, but to blatantly lie and hide behind religion is appalling. I am a
good Christian, and I play in a game, So?. This group represents themselves
as an unbiased source of information to AW yet they wreak of bias, and from
factual information I have obtained from various sources produce many a
hacker, or shall it be better put "script kiddies". From my extensive
experience with the AWRPG game I can tell you for sure that this entire site
is a complete lie. I'm not really here to defend that world, though I will
readily and proudly say I am on the development team there. I'm here because
for a long time now several people coming out of this group have plagued AW
with their childish immature behavior. I'm not going to make the mistake of
labeling them all, as they obviously often do, but there are definitely some
in the bunch that are over the top. In the aforementioned site, they accuse
all players of the RPG game to be satanic, and worshippers of the devil, in
addition they also compare its "evil" to "homosexual marriage". I'm not sure
of who owns this site, I've got a good idea of who owns the world, and in
addition who most likely put up the false propaganda. Maybe you aren't a big
fan of AWRPG either, and that's your choice, but what is to stop these
people from spreading lies about you or your world? My purpose for posting
this is that I feel its about time to start telling the community the truth
about the source of so much of the grief that we as users of this great
software are exposed to. I'm really fed up with it. I in the past have and
still do own several worlds, and have been the victim of the dissention in
the past that they spread through their joke of a media outlet. I appeal to
all those that have had these people involved in their projects and many
other events, to rethink including them in the future. Do we really need
this kind of behavior at all? They also on this site refer to a recent
hacking, in no way taking credit for it of course, and then imply that it is
the will of god. This is only one of many examples of the ongoing behavior
that emanates from these individuals. I have been shown a lot of other
information regarding their devious activities and am more then willing to
produce my proof of them. In ending this post, I would like to challenge
the author of this absurd website to show me any factual information that
actually can lead to the redicioulus conclusions you have come to? In
addition I also would like to remind you of your obvious religious
convictions, I would say you sir are the one who is not acting very
Christian, judge and ye shall be judged. Sorry if you don't care and you
read this anyway, but these type of activities affect us all and I felt it
necessary to make sure they don't go unnoticed by those of us here to have a
good time without the riff raff. Thank You KBM

VWTV and their so called "factual information"

Sep 28, 2004, 5:49pm
well, joke or not, I take offense to being called a devil worshipper, and
I'm not saying that you or yours did the recent hacking, but in the past
well known hackers were known to frequent that world what I am saying is
that if anyone within the organization there wants to be taken seriously
then act seriously, and don't pull pranks that make you look uninformed and
host them on the server of what you represent to be a source of quality
information. I'm not being a baby. I just find it to be really rude. I don't
see how anyone with an ounce of sense can see the humor in defaming someone
else to entertain their friends. Slandering others is not the way to get
ahead. You may have in the past had differences with certain people in the
world, but I'm not one of them, so in the future don't include me in your
general assumptions about all there.

VWTV and their so called "factual information"

Sep 28, 2004, 8:28pm
Well strike, its really not about religion,.its about labeling people you
don't know. My original post was made with the assumption that there was a
nature of seriousness to this considering that it was on a server that
represents a supposed source of valid information, if it wasn't for that id
probably not have poured out all I did. Rossy, to be honest I myself can
take a good joke with the best of them, and if your site had that disclaimer
from the start this post probably would have been a "that's funny" gram
instead, But as Poseidon said in light of recent events its easy to see why
one doesn't find it so funny. While you may not know who did what happened
with the forums, creating such a site just adds fuel to the fire that keeps
such activities going, What is it that makes people dislike a group of hard
working people who volunteer countless resources to a project that they only
benefit from by knowing that it has a large amount of dedicated users who
appreciate it? It makes no sense, yet some seem to feel this way, what makes
the game a target? what did anyone involved do to deserve such a prank? I
don't, I don't see it. Also, In the forums before they were deleted you did
start a thread called "whets with all of the occult stuff in AWRPG", so
taking that to mind I had assumed you were quite serious, oh well, guess I
was wrong and got fooled by your prank, jokes on me, Thanks. hope it makes
you feel better to know.

VWTV and their so called "factual information"

Sep 29, 2004, 1:12am
Sorry Strike, I wasnt aware I was getting graded on grammer. Well Anthony, I
really dont care who is responsible for such stupid stuff, but if you look
at it from a not so informed perspective, I see VWTV.org, and regardless of
whos subdomain it is, for an outlet of the nature of VWTV to have such
things on your site speaks volumes. If you give subdomains to people who do
things like that with them then thats your perrogative. But as far as i see
it if its on your server its associated with you since whoever it belongs to
is responsible for its content. Im sure that plenty of people were well
aware of its existience and thought it was a riot. So disclaiming it now may
make you feel better but its not going to make me see it differently.

The Cy Awards

Mar 12, 2005, 12:23am
Definitely sad to see them go, but great to see that you have worked to
preserve it for historical purpose. I agree that whatever replaces the CY
Awards should be called something different, the work put into it and the
integrity it held make it a classic to AW and that should stay that way for
all time.

Thanks AlphaBit for making AW a great place for so long, and may the
things that take your time now be as great as the joy you put into the
community here, and to you Lady TeaL thanks for trying your best to keep a
great thing going. Real Life just always seems to get the best of em hehe.
Good Luck to those wishing to come up with something new, these shoes are
not so easily filled.

I would be happy to renew, host, maintain, and guarantee that it would
indefinitely remain 100% free for everyone if the owner cares to hand it
over in the interest of preserving it. I have benefited from it being there
plenty of times, its great because sometimes free objects are hard to
identify or find. Also if object designers wanted to contribute to it as
well, id be glad to make it bigger to accommodate. Not sure what size it is
or the user count. Have whoever has the authority to make that decision send
me a telegram in AW if they are interested.

Actually, I may be wrong, but I do believe that AWI already has a world for
Free Objects. called Objectd'. If that site and world is not maintained by
them, excuse my assumptions.

Freebies to me, is more about Nostalgia, and historical preservation, and
im not worried about the cost. Cant expect AWI to pay for everything all the
time. I may get my head bit off for it by all, but I personally think they
do quite a lot to provide the community with the tools they need to get to
where they want to be.

I recieved an Email Adress form someone and sent a message to see if the
Owner would be interested in preserving it. The person who sent me the
adress wasnt so sure it was good, so we will see.

[View Quote] > First, to answer your query: To my knowledge, Objectd' world and the

Actually, If you do a whois on that domain you will clearly see that it is
in fact registered to AWI. But i do have to admit seems less then
maintained. Mabee the people who originally maintained it for community lost
interest or fell the way of other obligations. Thats really not AWI's fault,
after all they contine to provie the resorces for it to exist.

> They are just another one of hundreds of Active Worlds fan Web sites and
> worlds that are privately owned (and financed) by AW citizens.

No debate there, plenty of people dedicate enormous efforts to keeping the
community going. But really they do it becasue they want to, and since AWI
has to pay a light bill like everyone else in business they are glad to take
the money. Dont see how thats an issue, its simply business in action.

Im well aware of the content on their main website. I think the browser is
what they should focus on, Im sure that once they improve it some more they
will have some new objects lurking around. Business Management requires
budgeting, and I would think the browser becomes prioirty with that in mind.
Makes sense to me anyway.

Definitly, Some people give a lot of time to developing things, once again
they choose to do that, and enjoy it im sure, or somehow get paid for it.
Either way, The options are laid out, and its all about choice. Not to in
any way discount the efforts of the great people who haved dedicated so much
to it.

I in no way have any arguments over the fact that AW has a dedicated and
strong community. Its not my first day. I rarely post to these newsgroups
though.

My main point here is, instead of challenging them to react in a public
forum, or griping about what they give back to the community and insisting
its not enough, there's better and far easier ways to achieve results.

From my experience as caretaker of AWRPG, owner of several worlds and
websites, builder, citizen, and originally tourist over the past 8 or so
years, my experience has not in any way been like that. I've had nothing but
helpful, informative, and generous experience with AWI overall. I honestly
cant think of any negative experience with them personally or in any
projects I've been involved in. I can say that about all the people
representing them that I have spoken to or dealt with. You get what you
give.

There's a children's story/fable called "stone soup". Not sure if you have
heard the story, but its a simple concept, everyone in the community has a
little, and rather then grasping it thinking its not enough to share, throw
it into the pot, soon enough you have a great stew instead of 1000 hungry
mouths. To me that's all the community needs.

Getting back to what you said before about that, you can see the difference
between those that throw into the pot and those that grasp their carrots and
say "I'm not giving them up". There's a strong community already, and AWI
has put their potatoes into the pot.

I rarely hear the big contributors to community sharing the same feelings
about AWI. I'm sure we all have our quirks whether its pricing, or content,
but overall sometimes its how you get to where you want to go and not just
getting there.

May still need the owners permission, don't know how all that works.

If it doesn't pan out in the next few days, I will open a new world for the
purpose of propagating free objects. However, Id like right now to appeal to
the object artists. I myself couldn't make a cube LOL.

I don't want to violate any object creators user agreements, so in the
construction and management of this world, I will only accept 100% free
objects, from the original author or an organization with the authority to
donate them. I think that's reasonable.

Other then that, I definitely can find the resources necessary financially,
and timewise, to create a continually updated site and world for this
purpose. Any author who donates to the world would also get a sign crediting
them for their donations and a link back to their own site/showcase worlds.
Decent tradeoff for everyone. We all have a great free resource for content,
and we have a place to find all the active object sellers.

Aside of that id like to keep it simple, maybe a tad of seasonal decoration
at gz or something, but frill to a minimum.

I'm not big on making a big public show out of it, so if any current object
makers are interested in advance, feel free to gram me to discuss it
further.
Obviously any free art, textures, objects, skyboxes, so on would be great.
Not just objects.

By say Wednesday if I haven't heard anything, I will get the world going and
begin to set up a site for it. So by next weekend, if I get some good
feedback we should have something in place to get started. I have a name in
mind already. But I aint tellin yet :P

Well. I got impatient Too much sugar maybe. LOL.
So I bought a world called FreeArt. Its a P20-10 user, good enough for a
start. Ill open it up when I get some submissions, and the site setup. Ill
do it like Freebies was setup with urls to objects on the site for download.

I'm sure this idea will get a great response, and I'm glad to do my part
in it all. I'm sure it will be ready in the next week or so, or at least
under way.
Thanks to everyone that participated in this thread, and in Telegrams and

What Chris said. Im actually glad that JP did that. As I originally said my
interest in freebies was nostalgic and preservation. Hes done that. The new

Ive started that. So its the best of both worlds, LOL, Pun intended.

New FreeArt World

Dec 11, 2005, 4:07pm
I have created a new world called FreeArt to showcase all types of 100% free
objects, textures, backdrops, skyboxes, software, and sprites. Anything to do
with AW that's Free. In addition I've created a new website to go along with
it, still under construction, but not for long, www.awfreeart.com or
www.awfreeart.net, both go to the same place.

To start I made it a P20, ill grow it as the need arises. The world will be
arranged categorically. All artists that submit anything to the world will
get a sign linking to their site and/or worlds. I'm not going to just gather
up existing free stuff, as some authors may not wish to participate.
Therefore the world will be made up of 100% submissions.

In addition to this being purely a Free Object Resource for the community,
Id also like it to be a good source of all AW related information, all
types of art, and programs. In creating this, Id like to pledge to the
community that It will be well maintained. Dead links will be removed, and
as new things are submitted they will be added promptly.

It will probably take a week or two to get it all laid out and operational
for use. In that time id like to appeal to anyone who would like to
contribute to this project. If you have anything you would like to donate or
showcase, that is 100% free for use in worlds, send an email with either zip
files containing the art, or links to the art, your site or world, and your
citizen name to submissions at awfreeart.com. Many have already contributed,
Thanks to them, I'm glad to see that this is getting such a great response.

The only rules id like to have here, Is that the person submitting the Art
should be the rightful owner of it, It should be appropriate for all
audiences (basically nothing with nudes or the like), and obviously that its
100% Free. this doesn't have to include forbidding editing or other
usage/changing of the objects. If you have rules of that nature be sure to
include in your zip files text documents containing those stipulations. It
will be noted on signs in the world, that one should read all documents
contained within the zips.

In no way is this meant to discount the efforts of anyone that in the past
has done or managed similar projects. I'm grateful to follow in their
footsteps at best and appreciate and have benefited from their efforts many
times.

Lastly, Thank You again, to the entire community for everything you all do
to help make AW What it is. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and
branching out from my shell a bit on a project like this that is beneficial
to so many.

Podcasting Community Into 3D Chatting - But IS NOT Doing It On ActiveWorlds...

May 15, 2006, 2:56am
Hola,

I still like AW. Maybe it is or isn't better then SL for whatever reasons.
But like anything else, there's pros and cons. My reasons are less about the
software and more about the people who run and made it, the ups and downs it
has had, and where it appears to stand.

I bet more then once in its history AW could have sold out to a huge
corporate entity, or taken huge chunks of cash to develop bigger things
while selling out the dream and principles that most likely way back got
exchanged between some guys in a basement somewhere.

They hit it big once or twice, were ahead of their time once or twice, fell
of the NASDAQ, restructured keeping what they considered important, yet they
still are here, and I bet they still love doing it. Isn't that the job we
all dream about? The one we can go to and like LOL.

I bet too, that though they aren't, "Big box corp...a division of Medium
corp..in affiliation with Huge corp." they also aren't up to their eyeballs
in other peoples money worrying about how they are going to woo those
investors long enough to break even. Good for SL, big bucks, big hands, and
deep pockets in Sharp Suits.

AW got cheesed I think, publicity wise, I don't know why. Maybe it was their
marketing at times. I have no idea to form an opinion. They made a 3D chat
program before even regular chat was cool. They never gave up, that means a
lot to me, because in the cut throat world of software its easy to do.

Maybe others will get huge and take over the world, I'm not a fortune
teller, but If the fact that they don't throw in the towel and just give up,
or that they seem to be running a little slower at times with development,
is a reason to say they have failed, I say, I guess its all in what you call
success.

Another note, for me anyway its important, AW is a family environment to an
extent. To each their own, and sure there's "adult" orientated environments
but I don't need to "click here to see boobs" myself. And In my experience
in SL it seemed a bit racy to enjoy with my son.

I've been There...done that..,and also to SL...who needs a SL when I'm
already a Citizen :P

Anyway, That's my two copper pieces..
back under my bridge...

Podcasting Community Into 3D Chatting - But IS NOT Doing It On ActiveWorlds...

May 23, 2006, 1:07am
Actually I did briefly mention in vague terms that exact endeavor. I said:

"They hit it big once or twice, were ahead of their time once or twice, fell
of the NASDAQ, restructured keeping what they
considered important"

Being in accounting I have an extremely complex understanding and view of
that I thought Id spare everyone. The bottom line is in the end, they didn't
just give up and walk away. And there's a difference between selling out and
going public. In that time period Internet startups going public and the
..com bubble were all the rage.

What you said about Stagecoach isn't true from what I can see either. I
believe that the concept of the next version of AW was around long before
that. All I can say is, from what I've seen posted in various discussion
groups elsewhere, Seems people from SL was involved before them and for some
reason they aren't anymore. Maybe the huge security issues and the excessive
downtime that SL has experienced. Maybe not. Either way, in that whole deal
AW is what its based on and SL isn't. That's not my business sense talking,
that's common sense. Someone with some money found AW to be better then SL
for their needs.

A far as working for, and owning a business, well sure, working for them may
not be the ultimate job, but that's not what I implied. I implied for them
as owners that like their job, its a dream job.

I'm sure there's boatloads of better things then AW out there, if you look
at one area of what it offers or even several.
I like AW. That's all I was saying initially, and I like it for reasons that
are somewhat different then most others.

I'm familiar with your site, for years now in fact. But I don't generally
agree with some of your observations and perceptions as to the
interpretation of certain legal documents you scavenged up, and a few
disgruntled employees perhaps. I see what I initially posted. Regardless of
the trials, tribulations, and accusations, they are still here. And they
never went to jail for anything or lost in some of the various litigations
you detail.

Lastly, Nice to meet you Eep, In the years I've spent in AW I at times
looked to your sites and various information you provided over the years,
for answers that helped me to achieve many projects that I have come to be
involved in here in AW. The first time something I said initiates a response
from you, You call me an idiot. Thanks, That means a lot to me and my
perception of your credibility.

[AW Reunion 2007] Where To Next?

Jul 30, 2006, 2:14pm
I would think that whatever group owns awreunion.com, .org, .net,
awreunion07.com, .org. and .net is more entitled to use the term
"awreunion" wholly. though I myself have always thought the word reunion was
a bit hokey since its not like were separated for the majority of the year
other then physically perhaps. In any event, Having multiple events is fine
and all, but its another classic example of how compromise and unity never
factor in to any community functions. Not that I think my words will change
anything, more likely inspire some more useless banter. I probably wont go
to any this year to keep in the sprit of bickering division that AW tends to
be at times. But I'll gladly blow a ton of money to help my friends achieve
their goals at making it great again, let me know if you need anything in
that department. So far I've been to 2 of them, and I had a good time at
both, and enjoyed the company of everyone. Its too bad that people feel so
compelled to make something neat into something more to grumble about. Oh
well.

[AW Reunion 2007] Where To Next?

Jul 30, 2006, 4:33pm
Damn, there goes having the banquet at Hooters...LOL J/K
There's always one.....but hey, it gives you something to look back at and
say "why I never...the nerve..."
or "woohoo...yeeee haaa", either way I'm sure everyone had fun even if they
had fun in their own way. Everyone cant agree, and everyone doesn't always
want to do everything. I think myself that since it is the "AW Reunion" that
perhaps a future consideration would be a period of time focusing on AW
related activity, like at a typical convention type thing where people for
at least some of the time do something pertinent to the topic for which
something is organized. Granted everyone enjoys a vacation, but vacations
are best left to ourselves aside of some local interests and events perhaps.
Regardless of cliques, I know everyone I've met form the reunions has one
thing in common, a undying love of this software in some respect. Perhaps
some event that encompasses the whole of aw in some way at the reunion would
make it easier for everyone to all land on the same page. I don't believe
its the fault of age, or clique, or anything like that. I think its just a
matter of everyone giving in a little and working together with no regard
for who's in control of it, or who's not in control of it. Maybe Ill go, I
just hate flying, so I either need to drive a long way, or get some Xanax
for the flight.

Who's next to get banned, when is it gonna end?

Jul 30, 2006, 1:24pm
That's the beauty of being in business, Simply state that you reserve the
right to refuse service to anyone at anytime, and here in the US as long as
its not a violation of their civil rights its all good. Why? I can tell you
as a self employed accountant I've encountered people who were not the kind
of people I wanted to deal with. Some was because they didn't keep records
the way I'm used to working with, some were just jerks and not so tolerable
by the standards I set forth when I chose to become self employed, In fact
the main reason I became self employed was so that I could tell some people
to kiss off at will. So far it's allowed me to create a very lucrative and
easy to manage job I actually like.

If it happened to me Id probably be upset as well, but at the same time I
highly doubt if someone gets chucked out permanently it was "for absolutely
nothing". In my tenure as an admin for certain environments I've removed
people for horrible things, some of them, rather then debate whether or not
it was wrong, illegal, or so on, I simply used the reserved clause of "we
reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", however you word it. In many
cases I went far beyond the normal limits of acceptable tolerance to people
who just couldn't fit in. It probably has saved some of the offending
parties a lot of personal embarrassment. I don't know the reasons to it all
on the part of AWI if this has happened, but I'm sure there was a reason.
Many software terms use that exact clause if not one that reserves every
right not expressly stated.

In many ways I see people more and more point fingers left and right, or at
AWI, and in the next breath they say "AW is failing", or "they aren't doing
it right", and so on. Maybe some of the community isn't doing it right. I
guess no one ever considers that. Seems to me whenever someone stands up
saying Unity! someone says, "only if I'm in charge" or "oh no way, I don't
like them", "ill do it better my way" and so on. more and more it seems to
me if anything is "wrong" its that no one can do anything but argue and
