AW Failure and Damages - Users and Owners Petition -May 26, 2005, 1:35am
I'm passing this along from the awnews.org forum. This is a petition
started by Prometheo/Hyria World regarding the recent service of aw. Even if you don't agree with it, its an interesting read/topic of discussion. AWEC. You can access it through the AW Newsletter. But other than AWTeen's
weekly events, bingo, and some random x-rated world event, its pretty much the same thing every month. :/ [View Quote] Universal Chat Channel for Active Worlds?May 31, 2005, 4:36pm
Not quite, Kenneth. The way I've seen it used before, it worked itself out
to be a light chat and advertising type chat room. Things like advertising events, or just general chatting when you're bored. That's because chatting isn't AW's main draw, you can't chat in a seperate window and build at the same time. While it seems like they would do these things as you describe, I'm sure you've noticed that there are several groups of people that don't like associating with each other (for the most irrational reasons) and life in AWGate would go on as normal. And to be quite honest, the "disscussion" in AWGate wasen't all that great to begin with. :p -Hyper Anthony [View Quote] Universal Chat Channel for Active Worlds?Jun 1, 2005, 11:45pm
I would recommend that a chat moderator just be like a regular user in
there. They don't need bold, they can just go in and chat like any other person. No recognition, no power trips. (Also, if AWI does impliment this feature, they should ask about 15 or so experienced volunteers that are fair and equal to ALL GROUPS in AW. The current chat moderation organizations are ok, but there are some people in them that, well... aren't exactly logical in their judgement. :p -Hyper Anthony [View Quote] Universal Chat Channel for Active Worlds?Jun 2, 2005, 11:50pm
PG is more appropriate for AW's large variety of age groups, and a general
chat room and a public building world chat room would probably be enough considering the size of AW's userbase. -Hyper Anthony [View Quote] <no subject>Jun 5, 2005, 1:43am
AWTeen Events: What's New for June
Hyper Anthony Hi folks. May was a real busy month for a lot of us school-aged guys in real life, and as summer progresses, that should be clearing up. And that means more time for us to work on cool events for you. Paintball Paintball will be the usual routine this month. The bot messing up and forcing Allen to take the helm, and then Lucius utterly destroying everyone 15 minutes into the game. Good stuff. As for the Build your own Paintball course contest, the results should be announced next week. Good job for all the contestants, and we may do this next month if interest in it sparks up. Town Wars This hasn't been launched yet, as we are still ironing out some things and looking for towns who want to join in. Speaking of which, Alphaworld kinda gets neglected event-wise and they have a lot of good folks there, so I'm extending the inventation to you Alphaworlders reading this. If anyone who owns a town in Alphaworld or AWTeen would like to participate in the Town Wars event, please email awtevents at gmail.com with your town's name, coordinates, and a list of your staff. For those of you who don't know what Town Wars is, its not really about fighting. This is an event to bring different communities of towns under one roof for a healthy competiton. The game focuses a lot on team building, and you would be better off if the mayor was a good builder. It consists of two rounds, and then final judging. Round 1: Setting up the area The game will take place somewhere in each others town, and the two areas will be connected via phonebot. The MC of the event will announce what the theme of the building area is, and then the Mayor of the town (If they aren't available, a town staff member) will have 15 minutes to set up a creative building area with enough lots for all of the residents there to participate, and it has to fit the theme. Round 2: Residents Lots After the Mayor's Round is over, the residents' round begins. Residents will have 30 minutes to build up their individual lot. There is no set lot size, but the lot must fit the theme, match the ground cover the mayor used, and look nice. Any resident who has built in the town they want to build for can participate. Judging After the second round is over, the judges have 10 minutes in both building areas to inspect them. They will judge on a scale of 1 to 10 in the following catergories: -Teamwork -Overall Area Appeal -Creativity -Fitting the Theme -Usage of Advanced Building (Object Innovation, no zbuffer, cell space conservation if applicable) That ends up at 50 points total. Whoever has the most points at the end of the match wins. If we get enough towns to participate, we will begin "seasons" such as a real world sport does. The town will go through several games against other towns in these seasons, which will lead up to a Final Tournament. Wouldn't that just be the talk of AW? :p Anyway, if you have a town in AWTeen or Alphaworld and are interested in participating, email us at awtevents at gmail.com Help Wanted The AWTeen Events Team is always looking for new members! If you are a builder, programmer, someone interested in testing new events, or if you are interested in being a Judge for Town Wars, please email us! We will give you all the details you need, and you should be all set. Just email awtevents at gmail.com and ask for more details. And until next month everyone, good luck! DaphneJun 12, 2005, 12:56am
I only knew her through AWTrivia, but she was a very polite person and kept
us entertained even while we frantically typed answers to the trivia bot. She was really nice, it's a real shame how the world works. :| -Hyper Anthony [View Quote] I need help from the community please!Jun 29, 2005, 4:45pm

I've seen a lot of bickering and strife over this here in the NGs, so I want
to interject for a moment with some food for thought: What makes a word bad? How can someone be offended by a sound that comes from someone elses mouth? A sound that is synonymous with other words that are "acceptable" in our culture. It is an odd thing, if you say something like "shit" someone could shrug it off, or go off on you. If you say something like "poop," most people will shrug it off with the exception of smaller children, who would probably giggle. But back to my point, whats the big deal? If simple words like that (which have many synonyms) can offend you, why not a word like desk? Cheese? In this day and age on the internet, I really don't understand how anyone wouldn't tolerate "innapropriate language." We've all heard it before (ESPECIALLY online), and its not always inappropriate, such as being used for emphasis, in context, and the like. Whats the big deal? AW4 vs. SL featuresMar 13, 2006, 9:57pm
Yeah, and thats why I like AW. Public Building Worlds are probably one
of the better successes of AW, and I know they've helped to keep more than one person from bridging the gap. They help to represent a population of people, for whatever reason, don't have the resources to start a successful world, but can still contribute great successes to the community through gathering resources in a Public Building World. SW City is a great example of this. They come up with all kinds of innovative builds and events, but if they had gathered in Second Life it would have been much more expensive/difficult to create. -Hyp [View Quote] AWTeen Speed Building ContestMar 13, 2006, 4:52pm
Building Contests, I'm sure we've all been in one. Come into the
building area, get a lot, procrastinate to the last day and then build something. That’s all well all good, but its not very interesting. AWTeen is introducing a new event to try to bring some more interest and excitement to building competitions, by introducing the Speed Building Tournament. This event is set to begin in the month of April. If anyone is a out there fan of professional basketball, you should know how this works. The Building Contest will be in the form of a scheduled one on one match with another builder, and the two builders will have one hour to build as much as they can while trying to stay in the theme of the contest. After the winner is decided, they will go on to the next round of play at a later date, and so on in the format of a Knockout Bracket. During the one hour building frenzy, spectators and building judges will be in and out of the area. For respect to the builders, we ask that any spectators keep their distance. The judges, however, can come and go as they like from the building area to help scoring. Judges will be looking to score in several categories: Theme, Technique, completeness of the buid, lot usage, and creativity. Each category will be scored in a point system of 1 to 10, and the person with the most points in a match wins. In order to participate, you have to send an application to Hyper Anthony through either telegram or e-mail hyperanthony at gmail.com. The applications are below: ---To be a contestant--- Citizen Name: Citizen Number: Time usually online (in VRT): ---To be a Judge--- Citizen Name: Citizen Number: Time usually online (in VRT): Example of previous building experience: For more information, please visit http://www.awteen.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=416 or contact Hyper Anthony. Well gee, thanks for pointing fingers. Those that would assume
something about another group of people without backing it up seem a bit worse off to me in the maturity factor, but thats just my opinion. This is really a bad move AWI. Everyone else has mostly hit on it, but ascii, web-linking, and yes, even swearing, are parts of chat we use regularly in our conversations. I understand that there are oftentimes some people who go over the top... I have to deal with them quite often in awteen, but I don't feel that circumstances like that should put everybody under the gun. Again concerning the swearing issue... to all of you who would tell us to expand our vocabularly, I ask... why? "Swear" worlds are just that. Words. They're only taboo because we made them so, and some of them are downright silly. How did a synonym to poop ever become a taboo word? Web-links... thats a big pain. I too use those quite frequently and its really convienent to have them available in chat to reference to another chatter what a current conversation is about, or to give people information and whatnot. You guys really need to seriously consider putting that back in :/ -Hyper [View Quote] Cell limit in AW back to large?Jun 6, 2006, 6:04pm

I agree. I mean, come on guys... all this bickering is just plain goofy
and worn out, from everyone. :P X - rated material is all over the internet nowadays... heck, if your computer doesn't have proper spyware protection and you visit the wrong place, it could just randomly pop up on your screen as an ad! :O I think you all are quick to forget that the x-rated worlds are a part of our community as well, and certainly in no small part. Now I'm underage and I can't really go there if I'm honest, but whats stopping me from lying about my age? Just because the x-rated worlds have idealologies that you or me don't agree with, does it mean we should just exclude them from such an event? I'd bet slappin a ToS agreement on the registration page would do it next year if you're really worried. Idealy, If parents don't want their kids viewing innapropriate material then *they* should be the ones to take steps to prevent it. If they don't... whoops, their bad. The Cys will be fine, either way. ;D -Hyper MY AwardJul 5, 2006, 7:01am
