UltraPlanets is back as an illegal universe now called megaplanets.com or
megaplanets, I went in there because I thought it was different uni and then
the owner told me it was the same as Ultra Planets and that it wasnt hacked,
just watch out. Because it is obvious its a hacked uni!

Are they attempting to charge money for this illegal service?
If so, they won't be around for long.

It's one thing stealing AWI's software.
It's another thing stealing AWI's income.

If you travel up the directory tree of the megaplanets site
(http://www.megaplanets.com points to
http://www.mnj2k5.ho8.com/virtual3d/mpu36/), you'll find this:

http://www.mnj2k5.ho8.com/john.html
http://www.mnj2k5.ho8.com/matt.html

Might these be the guys responsible?

Its highly likley that these 2 'Rudeboys' are responsible, or are just
hosting it without realising its illegal

Bit like the people behind megaplanets

Megaplanets is just a bog standard cracked uni that comes in a ZIP, you find
a computer, unzip it, and run it - Hardly takes any brains.

[I may be incorrect but this is what I have been told]

From what I know the universe cost covers the licence for the graphics
engine not just the AWI cost thingy. So they could be punished twice, once
by AWI and Criterion/Renderware (or whoever it is)

When will they ever learn...

They're just dumb teenagers, or l33t g4m0rz. Your preference. No need to
insult their tastes when you can insult their intelligence. :P I guess
nobody told them that stealing stuff in cyberspace is as real a crime as
robbing a bank.

Went to have a little visit to see their excuse, and my cold went worse

Director: aw thinks we will compete with them

Do those dipshits realise how pathetic these excuses are, i mean come on.

"yeah email me your proof.
our servers have been up a year now, if aw really thinks its illegal it
would have FULL control to shut it down, aw thinks we are going into
competition with them but we're not i know someone keeps advertising on
there i wanna get that to stop and im sorry about that. im just the
director head admin on there so i dont own it but the owner got the uni
from an old GK on aw." - Kevin, One of the people behind Megaplanets

Funny how this competition excuse keeps popping up, I mean look at
spiral matrix. SM is 10x better than AW, and you dont see AW Trying to
shut down SM now do you?

"We thank you for bringing this to our attention. We already have their
names and addresses and are in the process of having law enforcement
contact their parents as these individuals are age 15 and 17. It will
not be long before this Universe is shut down and these individuals are
arrested and placed in Juvenile detention.

We thank you again for contacting us, please do not hesitate to bring us
more information as our legal team is also in the process of filling
lawsuits against their parents.

use once.

ya, em, sounds to me like they're bullshitting.
first, juvenile detention? for running cracked software? how often does that
happen? if the RIAA can't send people away for "stealing" and "distrubuting"
thier work, how's activeworlds going to send some kids to jail?
and thier legal team? how much could they possibly sue them for? i'm sure
they would never make even a fraction of that $250,000 they said they would,
so wouldn't be worth the costs. hell, doubt AW could afford the legal costs,
would probably bankrupt them.
And finally, people in AW aren't yet into that whole cold hearted
corporation shit, were they sue whoever they can, not caring about what
happens to them, just to sent an example. They're a small company, no
pressure on them to stop them from having a conscience.
so i'm guessing that's bullshit.

[View Quote] Reading that makes me laugh even more. I'm sure they will get a fine,
maybe probation if they make the case great enough.. but.. hey... haha.

I agree with you.. sounds a lot like scare tactics to detur the others..

I know that if I was running such pirated software, after reading that
email, I'd be formatting my hard drive as fast as anything.
Of course thats not the case here.. they still seem to be operating..

And just to add, I do find juvenile a little out of the question.. The
parents should not suffer. Obviously, they should be monitoring what their
kids do, and they should suffer a fine for this, but watching teenagers
online is a lot harder than keeping an eye on them if they go and hold up
the local liquor store.

I cannot really explain what I mean, but I just say they are getting a
little excited on these lawsuits and punishment, if it is true.

Does your client support timestamps? If it does, it would have shown you
that this is a very old thread that died long time ago, along with the
little pricks behind Megaplanets.
