XML is just a markup language, a container of information. You have to write code to interpret that information, it won't magically transform itself into a GUI, and even if you use skins to draw your interface, you could still make a boring skin. The blood/gore stuff is so that you have to either remove gore, make it green or something, or they put an 18 year age limit or something on it. They don't completely ban the game. What I meant earlier was that AWI should move to Iraq, that way they wouldn't be under any laws. KAH Re: Cut AwayNov 16, 2003, 12:38pm

I'm probably stupid, but I don't understand what you mean. When you click on the terrain, you do select an individual cell. It's actually not possible to select more than that at a time. What are you talking about? A cell in the AW sense is a 10x10 m (1x1 coord) square. Applies to both terraind and property. When you click on the terrain with CT, you select one cell. There's no smaller unity than what you can select, and it would require quite some rewriting to make that possible. If you want to have more detailed terrain, you'll have to go back to generating RWX ground objects. KAH Cell PropertiesJan 9, 2004, 4:54pm

It does not just effect the > indivual, it effects us all. The point is that in the case of alcohol, you'll only get health problems if you abuse it. There's no good way to stop alcohol abuse either, besides trying to help those who are abusing it. If you illegalise it, you're effectively founding a new branch of organised criminality. People won't just stop drinking overnight, so they'll have to resort to contraband. Just look at what happened in the US in the period they forbade it. Trying to restrict it without banning it doesn't work very well either, people will just become poorer or go buy their alcohol where's it's cheaper. Will also boost contraband to some extent. I can tell you this because I live in a country where only state-ran shops (for anything other than beer) and approved restaurants/bars/etc are allowed to sell/serve alcohol. Alcohol is also severely taxated, and it doesn't really change anything. Smoking is different, it is much more addictive and leads to far serious problems far quicker. It should still be the induvidual's right to decide wether he or she wants to kill himself/herself by smoking. I'm against smoking, but I'm not for illegalising it in general. However I think it should be made illegal in all public places because of passive smoking and the general annoyance it creates. KAH fog and steam in AWJan 11, 2004, 11:22am

(that's what I'm assuming fog and steam are, particle > effects, I may be wrong) Don't know if RW3 supports patchy fog, somehow I don't think it does. I know NVIDIA GeForce 3, 4 and FX support it, but I don't think ATI cards have an equivalent. You'd probably have to do it software, which means slow and/or ugly. Fog is not a particle effect. Steam, or any other particle effect, should be easy. Roland said RW3 supported particle systems. Unless the RW3 implementation is particularly bad, they should not lag you (unless you fill your world with large particle systems, but you can achieve the same with high-poly objects) if you have a decent hardware accelerator and a fast CPU. The video card manufacturers work hard to make their cards perform well in it, so don't put so much trust into the numbers you get it. Anyway, I doubt that an environment pulling 500fps is completely dynamic like AW. Simple BSP-tree portal rendering can boost your framerates a lot. And, as Codewarrior said, there's no point in going above 100fps. It's not like your eyes will even notice the difference. I don't think any video cards are capable of that sort of refresh rates, neither are any monitors. Do you know what framerate a cinema movie plays at? 24. If your framerate is above 24, shut up and be happy ;-) KAH Volumetic LightsJan 23, 2004, 3:46pm
