Think that's one of the best posts I've seen in this Newsgroup for a long
time.
Like I would tell anyone that suspects anything illegal going on in
activeworlds is to inform the relevant government department, let them
conduct investigations.
I'm very sure Enzo would welcome an investigation to stop anything illegal
going on. In the real world people that have access to any child for
instance have to have a relevant police check beforehand, may not be
foolproof but stops many at the 1st hurdle. How many members that have
access to a child have had this check performed on them? non
Aw is a wonderful place to hide your id or gender and some will make the
most of it!
Anyway Bro, excellent contribution to the newsgroup..

Interesting there Mod and I think you have touched on a interesting topic
for discussion
people don't see the real world and get tied up with how important they are
in a VR world and seem to consider this Virtual importance and a status
symbol over others. just look at threads gone by.
The most ridicules statement was the one that wrote "You don't know who you
are talking to"
When people get so high on pixel power and weld the big virtual stick they
seem to take great pleasure in been sarcastic and greate false stories
created from their own deranged minds to make them selves better then anyone
else.
Yes I myself have been acused of everything from been aw's No 1 hacker and
much worse. Anyone that knows me knows I cant hack myself out of a paper
bag. But the deranged people love doing this without prove and for
pleasure..
And people sak whats wrong with AW?

Come on Alex
There is people in aw that promote hatred and nothing is ever done. Some go
around spreading more rumours to discredit members to make themselves look
important. Yes email abuse and nothing is ever done..
Lead by example

But as aw themselves state discrimination in their terms means:
"Activeworlds Inc. does not discriminate based on sex, age, gender,
sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, religion or socio-economic
status.
"
I'm sure the protagonists and follow up postings are expressing a opinion in
relation to their religion and their own faith. Say for instance a person
followed the re incarnation on the profit Myrddin and in that faith which is
protected under the USA constitution as freedom to practice ones own faith
it said marriage between opposite sexes was forbidden and a Activeworlds
member posted that they where about to marry a person of the opposite sex.
Given this information another member posted they thought under there faith
it was disgusting act, that is their opinion and are free to say so. indeed
is protected to say so under the USA constitution.
I have seen no bigotry in this thread just one posting that is vulgar.
Indeed if anyone was considering that perhaps Linn was been anti gay I would
ask you this question. Why would anyone that is said to be bigoted and anti
gay have and produce a greeting card site in aw for gay people?
If one cannot express ones faith among friends is a sorry day.

I think the thread is interesting, as AW membership is made up from people
of all cultures and creeds the contrasting options in regards to their own
thoughts are interesting to read when not of that culture.
I would find words such as fagots, queers and shirt lifters highly
offensive. I have not seen any in this thread yet, just a difference of
thought.
Been blunt is a trait in some cultures. Perhaps a way to stop all these as
you mention "flames" is to delete the newsgroup once and for all. And leave
the world builders group accessible only to world owners.
As Enzo has mentioned on more then one time. If a thread is not to your
liking avoid it!

The only thing I have seen is the use of a F word. I do not discriminate if
someone does not use the right grammer or words in context, spelling or
whatever.
But from what I've seen over the years you get 10% good postings 60% flaming
and 30% community

I am so very sorry and upset to hear this. Daphne was a inspiration to what
we all try to be like in AW. She was one of the Friends no matter what we
could turn to.
AW has lost a great person who despite illness always was there for all
members.
I know I can speak for Linn also. we are both gutted.

Alex no country is perfectly clean, take Portuguese, Dutch and British in
Indonesia. Hong Kong was leased as part of Opium settlement to the UK.
Looking back in history there is plenty of examples or "barbaric" actions.

I did drop a email to Enzo last week to see if Aw could create a world in
respect to what Daphne had done for us all. A place where perhaps a few
notes from all that met her could be placed and act as a reminder and let
all new members know who she was. I'm awaiting a response.
Then we can have a lasting reminder in the place she loved to be.

Humm
when I had my world server problem I emailed aw.ici using the support email.
Had no response. Then telephoned around 5pm GMT a week later to find out
where the server was been connected to the uniserver and was told to email
as no one was there to answer. A waste of money in that call.
If it was not for Andras finding the info out My world server still would
have had problems 6 weeks later as no response was obtained from using the
email sysstem.
perhaps a goat sacrificed to some god might have got a response.
O yes when i got the info the problem was solved in 15 min.Mind you Bill did
help with another problem very fast and all credit to Bill but not by using
the support email...

But people forget
AW in accessible by all, those on dial up, those with perhaps not to good
vid cards.
Give me aw anyday. I would not wish to go out and upgrade my connection rate
and buy a new vid card just to join a VR community.
AW may not be the most visually best VR program on the market, but anyone
can use it providing they can access the internet.
We may have flame wars, we may have a few headaches even have a few
undesirable people.
But anyone no matter where they are in the world can use activeworlds
programs.
These days I think AW would rather spend the money of making the program
better then spending thousands on a PR job..

Agree
If ever protagonist in these Newsgroups only submitted material relating to
the AW.INC universe community 60% of threads would be missing.
I cant see complaints from members arriving in threads also that are not
"related" to "community"
I'm happy to see humour and trying to raise some laughter in these
newsgroups, after all the other newsgroup got deleted due to abuse. If the
person is trying to make the members laugh, good luck to them.

Perhaps this could be a new feature?

Not sure how much to implement such a mod to the messaging system
(Uniserver) It would have to conform with the user database, or even when a
expire becomes evident an auto insertion, just like someone selecting
privacy.
or even if AW.inc wanted to make some money, sell off low cit numbers of say
cits left over 5 years....
What am I bided on citnum 1000

Personally I think aw in the true sense of the community spirit should offer
some free cits to these in need and have been members for a number of year,
perhaps these that might have fell on hard time.
Even better aw.inc set up some trust fund or if they need cit money a fund
for deserving members. That is great publicity for a caring community and
one up on many of the new products into the 3D games market.
A community is one that cares when one falls on hard times.

Alex,
Linn has mentioned no one person and could relate to any possible web site.
I'm really amazed you have brough up input from deleted threads as some
whipping stick. If I remember right it was you that stated you have placed
Linn's input onto a blocked senders list as you did not want to read her
input.
I do not use these newgroups for flamming and personal attacts, rather them
bring order and de-flame some situations.
If I wanted to make personal attacts I would copy across some of the emails
I have recieved from some people over the years, indeed some rather
threating ones that state, I quote:
"If you know whats good for you in aw you will dump Linn as a friend"
Again quoting Enzo: If a thread is not to your liking. don't contribute.
