I have been seeing articles on the review web sites about many people having
problems with WinME. Some of the PC magazines even recommend AGAINST upgrading to it. They are saying Win 98 is more reliable and better than WinME. You should get your money back and (1) use Win 98se and/or get or wait for WinXP. It's based on the NT4 kernal and it should be as reliable as Win2000 which I used and is great. WinXP is the replacement for Win95, 98, and ME. Here is a ZDnet pre-review. http://www.zdnet.com/products/stories/reviews/0,4161,2703095,00.html also read these reviews about Windows ME from TechWeb http://www.techweb.com/winmag/windows/winme/longterm/03.htm Paul [View Quote] New avatarsMay 1, 2001, 10:52pm
I have several new avars for sale if anyone is looking for quality avatars.
Two females, one battlebot, one alien av. Send me a telegram if you would like to see them. Paul Any ideas on what this is?May 2, 2001, 10:24am
why would you tell them to turn off error listing? it is a very useful tool
for determining internet connectivity problems. Eep was correct the errors are because someone used texture names in object action fields that do not exist in the AW object path. (useful for knowing that there is a problem so whomever built the object can hunt for it and fix it.) Paul [View Quote] DreamlandparkJan 7, 2002, 11:44pm
Here is a news flash. I got the word that AWCom forced Dreamlandpark to
revoke the free citizenships they are giving out last week. Isn't that pathetic? I think AWCom is losing everyone's respect. Paul DreamlandparkJan 8, 2002, 2:53am
No Paul, we didn't change our minds..it was changed for us by AW. They shut
us down because we gave out so many free memberships. That is unfortunate but nothing we can do about it. However, we hope you will continue coming to DLP and will become a part of our family. I am sorry that you were affected in this way. DLP is NOT cracked it is a purchased universe hosted on AWCom servers.
and because AWCom did what they did in shutting them down for giving out free cits they are considering move the universe to a different host to get away from AWcom. If you read the AW product web pages it says: Designed for the business that requires multiple stand-alone Worlds separate from the Active Worlds Universe of Worlds. This product gives to the administrator full configuration control over the Worlds. Meaning you, the owner, control the universe and how it is run and you own policies. If you choose to give away free cits then it is your right. No where on the web pages do I see anything about it being licensed and that it must be run according to AWCom policies. AWCom had no right to shut them down or dictate policy to them. Paul [View Quote] Ongoing boycottJan 9, 2002, 2:51am
if the price stays at 120 a year you watch and see if I don't leave come
May 2003. The majority of people are not going to pay that kid of money for a chat/building environment. There are other universes not to mention Adobe Atmosphere will continue to grow and improve since it is much more integrated into the web browser. I would like to see AWCom come to their senses and do some smart business management to get things back to normal, but if they want to raise their prices to a ridiculous level then let them. I can go else where and make my models and sell them. I like AW best but it won't kill me to leave. Paul [View Quote] Problems with Avatar SeqsJun 3, 2002, 8:48pm

There are MANY changes to the TS 5 interface with many things rearranged and
some working differently. Also many new features to tools like changing UV on objects/faces in the info box in real time and seeing them instantly in 3D Solid view mode. I would not suggest learning TS 4 first. The basics are similar but the interface and layout is different enough in TS 5 that it's almost like learning all over again. Paul [View Quote] trueSpace 4 TutorialsJun 9, 2002, 12:00am
I believe she (barbarae) said she already has the 5 upgrade in which case I
said ignore 4 and start with 5. I may have misread. As for me spending a lot time in Lady M's world studying her work???? I don't know where you get that. Maybe you should ask Lady M about that comment. However, I do admire Lady M's artistic ability. She is an excellent modeler and is always learning new things as we all do. I will leave it for her to clarify is she so chooses. Paul [View Quote] trueSpace 4 TutorialsJun 9, 2002, 12:08am
it's a bear learning 4.x and then switching to 5.x because the interfaces
and tools are so rearranged and different. If you don't know 4 then start with 5 and study the 4.x books and tutorials as guides. Also if you start using 4.x and install 3D TSX extenders you will be disappointed when you find that many of them will no longer work in 5.x and may crash 5.x. I love 5.x and I started out way back with TS 2, TS 3, TS4. It was just hard finding everything in 5.x because much of it is in a different place and learning 4.x 1st won't make it any easier finding and using the same tools in 5.x. So why put yourself through 2 learning curves? TS 5 has some helpful UV'ing features and geometry editing features that you can't do in TS 4. That's my opinion. You can also just make a copy of the object and the copy will have the
Deform set permanently and you can do further editing of any kind on the copy. Paul [View Quote] trueSpace 4.2 TutorialsJul 20, 2002, 12:05pm
There are a lot more reasons to use TS 5 than stability. You can view and
modify UV's in real time in TS 5. You have far more power and tools for editing meshes and polygons. Those are just some things I can think of right off the top of my head. I would never want to go back to TS 4 now that I've taken the time to learn the new TS 5 interface and tools. Paul [View Quote] Shankahtus in GorAug 31, 2002, 11:24am
it doesn't require much work to resize and arm or other limb (if he made
them in truespace for instance). Might take about 15 minutes. Paul [View Quote] Shankahtus in GorSep 4, 2002, 6:20pm
The problem wasn't that he was charging extra to change the av as I read the
post. It was that he got all bent out of shape because she complained about the arms and wanted them changed so my post was to say that there was no reason for him to get upset about it but to simply say "ok I will change the arms but it will cost you such and such" and do so in a relatively nice manner" I have had people dissatisfied witn some proportions on my avs and I have changed them at no charge because after looking at them again I see that they may be right and what I thought was a good proportion at the tmie I made the av isn't. I try to accomodate the customer within reasonable limits. Paul [View Quote] cy nominations outSep 3, 2002, 11:38am
We don't have to look there's plenty of at least partially valid
reasons out there this year. I turned down being a CY committee member because I was nominating a friend's world that I helped build for a CY and I would have been biased. Yet others are committee members and have nominations. That's not to say they didn't judge properly. but there IS STILL the appearance. Also the delays and the rush for members to get the selections in "at the last minute" IS NOT FAIR. Sorry, but that's the way it is. And please don't talk to me about bashing. You can talk to Bit about me trying to help her smooth one controversy out (even though I thought that controvery was a valid one). Paul [View Quote] cy nominations outSep 3, 2002, 11:44am
I think you have to be kidding. It s the CY forum on the CY organization
web site posted to by CY team members (and the community). I think that makes somewhat official. That's what most people would think. Paul [View Quote] To the Cy Committee: A letter from an "old-timer"Sep 3, 2002, 11:24am
I'm a relatively "old timer" too and I think the CY's were very
disorganized and unfair this year. Based on bot logs we (Ldyspice and I) know of only 3 CY team members, one of whom is not on the selection comittee (Daphne, Insanity, Maka) who came to look at LdySpice world. I read in the CY forum that there are other bot logs that show the same type of thing. Hardly a fair process if this is all true. I don't blame Bit for getting frustrated with it all. Paul [View Quote] I think all complaining about Cy's are nuts :PSep 3, 2002, 9:19pm
You are right a LOT of people DID do a lot of work and for some
committee member not to visit those sites and for the whole thing to be delayed and confused so that there was little time at the last minute for them to do so has disappointed a lot of people who did all that work, Community and Cy team alike. It says a lot when even many of the people who ended up in the Top 5 are dissatisfied with the process. Paul [View Quote] Slow Moving Throughout AWSep 9, 2002, 4:25pm
I would only by a custom system on the internet if you are a technician
yourself. Who is going to service it if there is a problem. You either pay some one locally or ship it off. I'm a technician so I bought my dual P III system from Next International to my specs and I work on it myself (getting warranty part from them when I had a memory module go bad). If you are not a tech then you should (1) buy a custom system locally but not with "low quality" parts and from some one who give a good long term warrant on parts and labor or (2) buy a P4 system from Dell or Gateway since they provide onsite support and offer extended warranties. I don't think I would feel shunned at the CY's with hundreds of people
present. I was there with a friend and could barely keep in contact if we got separated by more than a short distance and not to mention trying to keep track of all the messages. And if people can drop off your Whisper list even though they are within range because of the number present there then who knows if messages get lost also with so many present? I guess you have to make your own decisions. As for me, I have no desire for
a bunch of real life friends to chat with. My r/l friends have come and gone just like they do in AW also I have met and spent hours with some people in AW I would never have met in r/l, Lightmare (Maria) and Thunderchild (Joe) in switzerland, Soo in S. Korea, SHE in S. Africa, Gandalf in England, others in austrailia, hungary, all over the world. Are there others who have a better, more satisfying "real life" ? Sure, but I'm not one and I feel uncomfortable in real crowds so I'll stick with AW unless something in the future changes my mind. And one could make the same arguments about the computer itself, or TV, or the telephone, or how about the old timers who spend the same time on Ham Radios or small groups of friends who play bridge for hours in the living room, or at the Bingo Parlor, or whatever else you choose to name. Friends are what you make them I think. I guess r/l friends can hug but not many do and at least in AW one can't be judged from one's looks or appearance although some people in AW are judged for things they shouldn't be like spelling that may have nothing to do with one's education but could be a result of dsylexia (spelling ? LOL) or other reasons. I suppose one could devote one's like to being a missionary and helping the poor in 3rd world countries and look back on life and say " that was much more worthwhile" but hey, I'm not missionary material. Is AW a waste of Life ? Maybe, my whole life seems like a waste sometimes but I've made some models in AW that some people enjoy and what money I make from it helps me supplement my SSDI income which I would have a hard time getting by on alone. I guess if one believes the bible about narrow is the road to heaven and few will find it then most peoples lives are a waste. But I hope in maybe a few cases I have some how manage to help a few people in AW by trying to be a friend in time of need. That's my thoughts. Paul [View Quote] What is happening to AW?Feb 7, 2003, 12:41am
It's time for AWI to wake up and roll back the price to at least 39.95. ARE
YOU LISTEN Rick and JP? It's time to get a grip. My opinion, Paul (since 1997) [View Quote] Calling out to the Community for helpFeb 8, 2003, 9:02pm
I want to state my opinion again. Are you listening AW Inc. ?
You should be. I think AW is like most businesses, but lets take the Grocery industry as an example. Many grocery chains are having some tough times these days. Why? Because I can go to the Walmart Supercenter and buy a gallon of milk (on sale for $2.38 this week) for 2.48 - 2.58. Why would I go to Food World, Winn Dixie, Bruno's, etc and pay 2.98 + ? I buy store brand soft drinks, .58 at WM, why would I go pay .68 or .78 at the other stores ? Same of all the food. You might get an occasional discount at the chain grocery stores (or if you use their discount card to pay for them) but why when it all there and discounted usually more at WM ? The point is you don't gain customers by raising prices, you lose them. The only reason I can afford to stay in AW is because of the models I sell so I can afford to keep my cit but more importantly as extra income to my Disability income so I can pay my bills and keep a tad ahead instead of being in the hole. I know other people in aw who in a similar boat as I am trying to hang on to there cits. And I know others who couldn't and have had to just leave. How many people (E N Z O ?, Cryonics ?) see Belladora or KayBerry or Ldy Flutterbly or PJ47 or Donna or many others online that used to be here all the time ? 2ndChildhood used to be in aw all the time but I only see her online occasionally now. I could probably think of other "old timers" who aren't around much, Chloe, Casay, CCTech, Lightmare, Thunderchild. And what about overseas users ? I know at least one that is having a terrible time trying to afford to stay here and had a P20 with 1 free cit but now can't afford the P20 or a cit because of the new pricing. More customers lost. And I find it hard to believe that AW INC. is getting enough NEW cits to offset the ones who are leaving and I think they would be better off with lower prices and keeping those cits who are leaving now plus getting the NEW cits. you can bet also that there are less people gone right now too because of the christmas renewal of 49.95 for those that chose to take advantage of it (regardless of when they cit was due for renewal) like I did. AW Inc (A N Z O, Cryonics), isn't it time you rolled back cit prices to at least 39.95 and put the free cit back on the P20's and maybe even increase the World server sizes a little for the same prices they are now?
