If you are having problems with avatar Seqs try deleteing your cache and
reloading. That helped fix some seqs problems I had with my avs in
Ganymede.

Thanks Paul for the suggestion! But I had already done that --and
alas--twas all the same! Very disheartening! So you want to know what I've
done (at least for now?)???

I'VE GONE BACK TO 3.2!!!!! And everything works fine!

Oh, before I did that, I checked and discovered that some of the walk seqs
that were not working in 3.3 were qwalkf, qwalkf2, and buwalk . But
barbra01,swalk, qwalkm, shaub01 did work in 3.3
Is that info helpful?

Oh yes, the texture of the dove still isn't correct either --in 3.2 or 3.3!

Frustrated,

Oh yes, one more thing. The up and down motion still seems to be there
pretty much in 3.2 At least when an av sits, she/he SITS!!! She actually
sits DOWN on the floor now. And Ling is walkng like she used to!!

Since I'm using 3.2 browser does that mean I'm also using the older
animation engine? Or is that the province of the server? Amberlin does
have the 3.3 server running, btw!

The new avatar animation system is currently only in the ActiveWorlds
Browser version 3.3. It is not in the world server software and is not
in version 3.2 of the browser. The animation system is on the client
side.

reposted for Barbara :) ... sorry for the repeat for others:

These changes have occured going to the new animation engine (3.3 browser):

1. normal scale in AW is 1:100
2. horizontal scale in seqs is 1:100
3. vertical scale in seqs is 1:1 (go figure)
4. all defaults for rotation, altitude, location and facing angle must now
be specified wherever a key frame for one of them exists.
avoid leaving rotation unspecified at any time for any frame where a key is
set for other attributes
5. previous seqs were designed at 30 frames per second. The new engine will
NOT render all frames even when you have ample video capability so you need
to specify every frame as a key to avoid twitchy motion on complex sequences
(= very big seqs)
6. Rotations greater than 45 degrees between key frames will not show in the
sequence at all ... suggesting the real frame rate is 25fps or less. Of
course you shouldn't go that far without a key frame, but it does clearly
demostrate the poorer real performance of the engine. Of course this can
appear as smoother and more robotic ... but that's because intermediate
frames are missing.
7. not having a default specified for rotation where a key frame exists with
values for other attributes specified will cause the 3.3 browser to crash on
activation of the sequence every time.

Most of these bugs can be written around in Acutrans/Lifeforms but it takes
a long time and makes the seqs on average 4-5 times larger. I do not
recommend fixing seqs until we hear from AW with respect to whether they
intend fixing stuff or making us write around the problems or you may end up
redoing them yet again!

if u install 3.3 and later go back to 3.2, will the contact list still work
in 3.2? or is the 3.2 contact list inactive once 3.3 was used?

Hi All!!

Boy, do I feel stupid!! Duh!!!!

I went into Amberlin a little while ago and finally noticed my Avatar menu
looked wrong. I had category titles, but none were showing! Now this was
AW 3.2 still! But the av's were working!

I finally went back into a copy of my avatar.dat and saw that I had put
stars (*) at the beginning and end of each title to make them more
distinctive. Finally a bell started to ring in my head!!!!

I hurriedly went to Insanity's tutorial on Avatar.dat, and sure enough,
those asterisks weren't allowed! Were they the culprits that maimed all my
avatars in 3.3???

Well, I went back into my Avatar.Dat and deleted all those stars! Logged
back into AW3.2 (having dumped my cache). Sure enough, all those category
titles were showing now!!

Next, I switched back to 3.3, dumped what cache was there, and logged back
in. The category titles were there. And more to the point, MY SEQUENCES
WERE WORKING!!!!!

Yes, some still aren't working as well as in 3.2. The sit isn't going down,
etc. but in relax she stretches out on her side with her head in her arm.
I'm satisfied--at least for now! *Sigh*!

[View Quote] 3.2 contact list is stored on your computer whilke 3.3 is on the uniserver. There is no way to "save" it from the uniserver, so you'll end up with your old list.

So far as I can remember or tell, when you go back to 3.2, the contact list
will work. Of course you would have to bring it up to date. I didn't try
copying the contact list from 3.3 to 3.2 though.
