Hi Everybody!
Even though I've been in AW since December, I've finally subscribed fully to several of the AW lists and just want to say hello! My name is Barbara Eisner -- After being in The Palace for several years, I finally decided to spread my wings and explore different universes. I've been enjoying myself thoroughly visiting other worlds and playing around in a friend's world. Just a few days ago, I finally dove in and bought myself a P30 world named "Amberlin"!!!!! I'm having so much fun just exploring the Megapath and starting to build! Are there many out there that have used the Megapath? There are several surprises: a complete set (in several textures) of new hills and building pieces that are much more natural (Nature Theme). I was just wondering if anybody has set up a yard displaying all the various objects and textures from the Megapath. I've encountered a particular set of paths and ground pieces in a couple of worlds. I was told they were from Nomad's Terrain Building Kit, a freebie collection. Does anybody know where I might find a set? I would love to take a class in AW landscaping -- for instance: How to make your world seem much bigger than it really is by paths zigzagging and obstructing the horizon, etc. A happy builder, Barbara Eisner Sound AlertApr 29, 2002, 12:44pm
Since I've only just joined this group, please forgive me if this "wish"
has already been covered: Sometimes I'm doing email or something else or even AFK with AW in the background. I would like to have some sort of sound alert when somebody comes into AW and wants to speak with me. I really am not certain how or even if it could be done. I don't know how many times I go back to AW window and find that someone has been to see me. I have another suggestion, but I will do another post for it. Thanks, Barbara Eisner Amberlin AW Home Page AvatarsApr 29, 2002, 12:53pm
Before I purchased my new world, I did the Home Page trial thingee! I
really liked some of the avatars in those little worlds. When I decided to buy a world, I decided to use the Megapath, hoping that, besides all those wonderful objects, we would get the avatars also. But alas, to my dismay, they were not included. Now, I've seen some of them on other worlds. I even wrote AW techsupport and was referred to the announcement re: Megapath. But when I looked in the Megapath, none of them were to be seen!! My "wish" is that I would like to have all those avatars (including their seq's) and variations thereof made accessible to us. Regards, Barbara Eisner Owner of Amberlin I need to turn! :PJun 1, 2002, 5:36pm
Try holding down the up arrow key at the same time as the left or right
arrow and the Control. I seem to increase speed. Does this help? But instead of turning around in place, you seem to go around in a circle. Barbara of Anberlin aka Barbarae [View Quote] Locking Objects TogetherJun 11, 2002, 7:33am
How many times during a build you have assembled several pieces or objects
together and wish you could lock them together--just temporarily? Well, that's my wish! I would like during a build in AW to be able to lock two or more pieces or objects together so they can't be moved or changed by accident. I would like also to be able to take that locked combo and work with it together with other pieces or combos. Similar to what they have in Bryce. It would also be nice to be able to apply a texture to the locked group instead of each object separately, if desired. You could even duplicate the locked set. I could think of so many more uses to use this capability in AW. And it would undoubtedly save alot of frustration and hair pulling and time! One woman's thoughts... Barbara of Amberlin aka Barbarae Newest UpdateJun 13, 2002, 11:19pm
I was playing around with textures for the Terrain to be used in Amberlin.
I also found that the original ground object which I normally use wound up almost black in Terrain! I'm enclosing (please forgive me) a tiny, tiny picture of my regular terrain and the terrain I had to make that would closely resemble the original but as a terrain texture. Note how much lighter I had to make it. I did try several times, and this one is about the closest I've come to the color, shade and texture for the terrain texture to match my ground object. (Was that clear as mud??) Hi Kristy!
Another immigrant from Palace!! I was there for about six years and only this last December came back to AW. I still have my "palace", Barbara's Colorado, there --up and running! But, alas, I find as time goes on, I'm spending more and more time in AW, and less in Palace. While Palace does have it's attractions and advantages, I've been having so much fun with AW's 3d!! As for the bubbles, I'm looking forward to them. Confidentially, in AW, when there are a few or several people talking, and they're all together, I find the text above the heads somewhat difficult to read. I think after awhile, people will come to accept and like the speech bubbles. Now, if only we could customize the colors and visiblity, and change the shapes according to what we're saying --for instance: round bubbles for regular speech spikey bubbles for exclamation (Type an !at beginning of message-- !Help) square or rectangular for signs which remain on screen longer (Type a ^ at begginning of line-- ^BRB) and thought bubbles (Type a : at beginning of line-- :falling asleep) Regards, Barbara of Amberlin aka Barbara Eisner aka Barbarae (AW) aka Barbara© NC/BC (Palace) [View Quote] bubblesJul 4, 2002, 11:37pm
Hi all!
The bubbles option reminds me of a 2D chat program I've been involved with for years -- "The Palace"!! All the chat goes into bubbles and to the chat log box. What's more, they even have different shapes for different occasions. The usual bubble as you've seen already is for the usual chatting. Then for an exclamation or outburst of emotion, the spikey balloon is used! Then for a "sign", for example--BRB, which stays on the screen for awhile, the rectangular or square edged bubble is then used. There is also a "thought bubble" showing the bubble coming from the head. Oh yes, the color of the bubble is an option left to the speaker. The name of the speaker would show up lower--near the av as white on black label. Just thought you may like to know! Oh yes, one more thing. In Palace, you have the option to set the speed
with which the bubbles appear then disappear -- short, medium, long, etc. Barbara of Amberlin Here's a suggestion ...Jul 13, 2002, 5:19pm

A happy builder, Barbara Eisner A Test-- Sort Of!Apr 29, 2002, 5:44am
Sorry! I knew what cross-posting was, but I didn't realize there was a rule
against it. Anyway, it was basically a test to see if I correctly subscribed to each group -- and it looks like I finally did! Please stop by Amberlin sometime and we can have a nice chat around the campfire -- maybe even roast some marshmallows! --Barbara [View Quote] Huggiing Sequences@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@2May 2, 2002, 4:08pm

Thanks to all for the suggestions. But, first of all, please forgive all
those at at at at 's in the subject line--they were an accident and I didn't even seen them till the replies came. I wish I could remeber in which world I saw the hugging sequences. As a matter of fact, I did search my drive and could't find them. As a matter of fact, the cache for most was empty!! Even tho I won't take the hugging sequences fromt the Cy Awards, if anybody legitimately offers them to me, I will be most gracious to accept. Otherworlds???? You mean a completely different program????? Thanks again, Barbara [View Quote] Huggiing Sequences@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@2May 5, 2002, 6:17am
Hello All!!
Many hugs and kisses to you all!!! I want to thank all those who've written and/ or sent me hugging and kissing sequences over the last few days!! Yes--it was a resounding success! I should open a kissing booth! :)) For those interested and may want to grab them, just come into Amberlin and play around for a few minutes. Then immediately after leaving, go into the cache folder for Amberlin and under sequences, you will find a folder full of them! You're welcome to save any you wiish. Oh yes, we have no bananas, but we have kisses! :)) We have a sweet kiss, a timid kiss, a hug, and a tender hug! And that is not to even mention Blowing a Kiss! Hi!
Just in time! I have TS4.3 on my drive with an upgrade to 5.1 waiting in the wings. I have really yet to learn it, but have been hoping to "any day now"!! I also have Frank Rivera's book on TS4. Do you recommend I learn TS4 first then upgrade to my 5.1 or should I go ahead and upgrade to 5.1 and still do your tutorials for TS4 and Rivera's TS4?? I need to go back and review Grover's and Heinrikg's tutorials also. What do you suggest I do?? Thanks for any suggestions and am looking forward to your tutorials! Hey you guys--go easy on me! besides TS 4.3, I also have the upgrade to
5.1 Yes, I have Rivera's book on TS4 and Robbie has done the tutorial for 4.x. So now what do I do?? Which version would be easiest to learn? Am I wrong or do I get the impression that 5.1 and 5.2 are a bear to learn? Robbie's tutorials seem to be a great way to get started. So, what shall I do?? Thx. I've been thinking-- (Peter would say-- "Uh-oh!") What about Asimov's
Bicentennial Man? Maybe as the original version worn by Robin Williams in the movie?? Maybe even some of the later versions? What about that girl bot in same movie that wound up being a nurse at the end? Thought she was adorable! I loved that movie! Politics! I absolutely loathe Politics!
I've already seen Politics almost ruin one chat program (and kill an otherwise originally very worthy organization in that same program). Something weird just happened! I had a window full of telegrams disappear
on me! I opened up AW and all I had was one telegram unopened waiting for me, whereas last time I was in ( a few minutes previously) I had a whole list full of opened ones! I even went back out and ran Andras' tgreader and all it showed was the one new tgram in Telegram.dat!!!! I'm not certain if this has anything to do with it, but I've been getting the following error occasionally when I go to open AW: "Sorry, Active Worlds has encountered a fatal disk error (reason17). Unable to continue. (Tip: a system reboot can sometimes resolve this problem.)" But, oddly enough, I've found that all I have to do is click it closed, then continue on with AW. I usually don't have to reboot at all. All my icons are still in my Systray so I just go on. Oh, something else sometimes happens also. Occasionally, I find my view window switching from the current scene up to the panorama with the blue background below--no ground. I find I usually have to wind up leaving AW, then come back in to get back to where I was. It can happen while, I'm typing, moving my mouse, or not even doing anything. It happens while I'm in my own world, or anywhere else. I'm running the current version of AW 3.3 (build 419) on my Pentium3, 600Mhz, 256MB RAM, 32MB VRam, approx 60MB HD, at 1024x768 resolution in Win98SE. Thanks in advance for any help given!! I sometimes get that error on my desktop! I have a Pentium3--600Mhz, 256MB
Ram, 32 MB Vram, and about 60MB on HD. I think that's the same error I get occasionally when I go into AW browser. I finally figured that was a bug. I've learned to just cancel that box (a grey box--not blue screen), and go on about my business. No after effects linger. I do dump or erase my cache often, tho. Next time it happens, I'll try to remember to copy the darn thing down. (That reason 17 sounds so familiar!) Barbara of Amberlin [View Quote] AW and laptopsJul 29, 2002, 3:37pm
