trueSpace 4 Tutorials

Jun 9, 2002, 12:00am
I believe she (barbarae) said she already has the 5 upgrade in which case I
said ignore 4 and start with 5. I may have misread.
As for me spending a lot time in Lady M's world studying her work???? I
don't know where you get that. Maybe you should ask Lady M about that
comment. However, I do admire Lady M's artistic ability. She is an
excellent modeler and is always learning new things as we all do. I will
leave it for her to clarify is she so chooses.

trueSpace 4 Tutorials

it's a bear learning 4.x and then switching to 5.x because the interfaces
and tools are so rearranged and different. If you don't know 4 then start
with 5 and study the 4.x books and tutorials as guides. Also if you start
using 4.x and install 3D TSX extenders you will be disappointed when you
find that many of them will no longer work in 5.x and may crash 5.x. I love
5.x and I started out way back with TS 2, TS 3, TS4. It was just hard
finding everything in 5.x because much of it is in a different place and
learning 4.x 1st won't make it any easier finding and using the same tools
in 5.x. So why put yourself through 2 learning curves? TS 5 has some
helpful UV'ing features and geometry editing features that you can't do in
TS 4. That's my opinion.

What to look for in a video card?

Jul 5, 2002, 6:48pm
I would get the 4400 it is a good bit faster than the 4200 but this all
assumes you have a Pentium 4.
If you have a P III less than 1gig then I don't thhink you will see much
difference in AW between a Geforce 2 gts or Geforce 3 or Geforce 4. These
new cards also need a FAST cpu to take advantage of the xtra speed. How
ever, the newer cards (aka Geforce 4) will have current support for DX 8 so
that is a factor.

What is happening to AW?

Feb 7, 2003, 12:41am
It's time for AWI to wake up and roll back the price to at least 39.95. ARE
YOU LISTEN Rick and JP? It's time to get a grip.

My opinion,
Paul (since 1997)

Calling out to the Community for help

Feb 8, 2003, 9:02pm
I want to state my opinion again. Are you listening AW Inc. ?
You should be.

I think AW is like most businesses, but lets take the Grocery industry as
an example.
Many grocery chains are having some tough times these days. Why? Because
I can go to the Walmart Supercenter and buy a gallon of milk (on sale for
$2.38 this week) for 2.48 - 2.58. Why would I go to Food World, Winn Dixie,
Bruno's, etc and pay 2.98 + ? I buy store brand soft drinks, .58 at
WM, why would I go pay .68 or .78 at the other stores ? Same of all the
food. You might get an occasional discount at the chain grocery stores
(or if you use their discount card to pay for them) but why when it all
there and discounted usually more at WM ?
The point is you don't gain customers by raising prices, you lose them. The
only reason I can afford to stay in AW is because of the models I sell so I
can afford to keep my cit but more importantly as extra income to my
Disability income so I can pay my bills and keep a tad ahead instead of
being in the hole.
I know other people in aw who in a similar boat as I am trying to hang on to
there cits. And I know others who couldn't and have had to just leave.

How many people (E N Z O ?, Cryonics ?) see Belladora or KayBerry or Ldy
Flutterbly or PJ47 or Donna or many others online that used to be here all
the time ? 2ndChildhood used to be in aw all the time but I only see
her online occasionally now. I could probably think of other "old timers"
who aren't around much, Chloe, Casay, CCTech, Lightmare, Thunderchild.
And what about overseas users ? I know at least one that is having a
terrible time trying to afford to stay here and had a P20 with 1 free cit
but now can't afford the P20 or a cit because of the new pricing.
More customers lost. And I find it hard to believe that AW INC. is getting
enough NEW cits to offset the ones who are leaving and I think they would be
better off with lower prices and keeping those cits who are leaving now plus
getting the NEW cits.
you can bet also that there are less people gone right now too because of
the christmas renewal of 49.95 for those that chose to take advantage of it
(regardless of when they cit was due for renewal) like I did.

AW Inc (A N Z O, Cryonics), isn't it time you rolled back cit prices to at
least 39.95 and put the free cit back on the P20's and maybe even
increase the World server sizes a little for the same prices they are now?

Geez you folks are crazy LOL
I think most of the "community spirit" a lot of you have is what comes out
of your ass and gets flushed down the toilet.

News Group - where news is discussed
Community - where topics related to the community are discussed
MrBruce's post are just as relevant as any of you other idiot's post. I
see there are plenty of people who have been willing to step into Eep's and
mgib's shoes in here.

TrueSpace texturing

Feb 22, 2003, 6:25am
For dishes and bowls and such you should use a circular image that goes out
to the outer edges on the square of the image at the widest points of the
circle. Then apply a 1x1 UV in TS and then use Planar UV applied from the
top of the bowl, dish, etc (which is round) and you will have a circular
pattern applied correctly.

TrueSpace texturing

Mar 2, 2003, 12:34am
yes just use the Paint Brush instead of the Paint Can and click on the face
(polygon) you want to paint the texture on. If you are using TS 5 you can
select that face and apply a UV to that face but that may result in more
verts in the object when you convert it to rwx. if you change the surface
settings it will add more verts for sure as well as making a separate
Protoinstance called Internal in the rwx. I really don't care for the way
Cobdump does some things.

New Wrought Iron Furnishings

Jun 8, 2003, 11:23pm
Just a note to let those interested know that I have new Wrought Iron
furniture and furnishings for sale in Ganymede. There is a teleport to the
area at GZ. Also is a new early american old style water pump with
animation.

Have a nice day,
Paul

LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Aug 17, 2003, 3:46pm
MrBruce,
I'm not quite sure I'm following this, But if the gist of this is
that

you are selling/leasing access of your object path to other world owners to
use (speaking for myself, but I think most other modelers you may have
purchased from would feel the same)
and you are also providing your object password to those world owners you
are selling/leasing the OP to,
then you would be violating the terms of my models agreements.

I allow purchasers to use the models they buy from me in all worlds they own
in any universes but they are not allowed to give, sell. provide access to
those models to anyone outside of those worlds without my consent.

Now if you are selling/leasing your object path but NOT providing the
password to non-public domain models (like mine) then that's fine. That
would be like AWI used to do in AW. You could build with all models except
their Z objects.

So, if you are selling/leasing your OP to world owners along with the
password to the non-public models then you need to stop now. I sold the
models for use in your worlds not for use in other's worlds and you wold
in essence be giving my models to others if that is the case.

Hope this clears up this thread some.

Hobbit Hills fro sale

Jul 31, 2003, 11:38pm
hello,

I have new Hobbit Hills for sale in Ganymede. They are not designed based
on the movie but on my interpretation from reading the books and how I
picture them. I f you use Terrain you can use you own "grass" and "path"
in place of the 2 I made. They are one piece 50 x 50 meter models.

Something's not right!

Nov 3, 2003, 1:41pm
If you are crashing a lot in your world you can try this to maybe help
restrict reloading.
(1) reload everything in your world.
(2) copy your world cache folder to another drive or backup folder
Then if you crash delete your world cache folder and copy the good
folder from the back up back into the AW cache. Then you won't have to
reload unless the back up is older than the 10080 (1 week). if you don't
make many changes to your OP (new models or textures) then you could set
your world refresh to say 30080 instead of 10080 (approx 3 weeks) and the
backup wold be good a little longer.

Also try not to teleport in and out of your world or other worlds until the
downloads are done and that may help reduce some crashes but not all.
3.4 is just too buggy and does crash a lot for no reason (related to
anything in the OP, models, textures, etc. unless maybe it's odd sized
textures).

Objects for sale (followup)

Dec 24, 2000, 10:01pm
Oh, I forgot. Some object are only suitable for AW 3.x
I will no longer make great efforts to support AW 2.2, especially since
there will be a software rendering version of AW 3.x in the not too distant
future.

PLEASE HELP - mouse probs in aw

Dec 29, 2000, 8:18pm
I go along with Eep on this one. Take the board back and get a MB without
onboard video and get a AGP video card. TNT2, Matrox g400/32+meg, or
Geforce 2 w/32+meg.
ASUS has a GeForce 2 card it cost more than other GF2 cards though.

Is Imatowns down?

Dec 29, 2000, 8:24pm
If others can get in ok and you can't (or vice cersa) it usually means the
internet route between you and the destination is having timeouts or down
someplace along the line.
Evryone doesn't have the same route. It depends on each persons ISP and
location somewhat.

Try reinstalling your card driver AFTER DirectX. I have to do that when I
upgraded to DX8.

Mipmapping

May 2, 2001, 10:38am
MM does affect speed. Makes it slower. It elimates problems like moire
patterns on distant objects(mmm try the walk that has the metal texture with
gridlike pattern) but does so at the expense off making them less sharp
looking.

Mipmapping

May 3, 2001, 7:10pm
I have a Geforce 2 gts and a Dual P III 650e with 384M ram and Win 200 and
when I enable mipmapping in aw it slows down rendering a tad. Roland has
also said it is a bit of a performance hit.
