TrueSpace texturing (General Discussion)
TrueSpace texturing // General DiscussiongarnetFeb 20, 2003, 9:50pm
I am hoping someone can help me with a problem I am having. Yes.. I'm
optimistic hahah :) Anyway.. I am learning how to use TrueSpace. The problem I am having is with texturing. I made some dishes with a circular texture and the result was fine, but when I made some cups it required a straight texture not a circular one.. so I made one in photoshop. Not a problem as I am used to manipulating textures. So then the cup looked great in TS.. but in AW it looks like this : http://www.geocities.com/redgarnet22/web/cup.jpg and the same thing happened no matter where I used that texture http://www.geocities.com/redgarnet22/web/carafe.jpg You can see where one area is messed up each time I use it. I used the paint brush in TS as well as the other painting tools to try to paint it. I use CobDump3 to convert to rwx. I even tried to use Accutrans to convert the rwx back to a cob.. and saw the problem in TS. I thought I had fixed it coz it once again looked fine in TS.. but when I put it back in AW.. again the same result. Its very frustrating because the problem is not visible in TS. Anyone have any suggestions ???? :) I don't know if it makes any difference, but I have TS 5.1. Thanks Garnet paulFeb 22, 2003, 6:25am
For dishes and bowls and such you should use a circular image that goes out
to the outer edges on the square of the image at the widest points of the circle. Then apply a 1x1 UV in TS and then use Planar UV applied from the top of the bowl, dish, etc (which is round) and you will have a circular pattern applied correctly. Paul [View Quote] garnetFeb 23, 2003, 2:07am
Thanks Paul .. I was able to make the cup use the round texture using the
Planar UV . When I did this the design in the texture was wavy so I made another bowl for the cup with more faces in it to make it rounder. That smoothed it out some. It still doesnt tell me why the other texture messed up but at least for the cup anyway, it looks better :) Do you know if theres a setting in TS that will allow you to paint the different sides of a face a different texture? I know you can add "Materialmodes double" to the rwx but is there a setting in TS that you know of? thanks :) Garnet [View Quote] paulMar 2, 2003, 12:34am
yes just use the Paint Brush instead of the Paint Can and click on the face
(polygon) you want to paint the texture on. If you are using TS 5 you can select that face and apply a UV to that face but that may result in more verts in the object when you convert it to rwx. if you change the surface settings it will add more verts for sure as well as making a separate Protoinstance called Internal in the rwx. I really don't care for the way Cobdump does some things. Paul [View Quote] |
