AWNews: Daphne Memory Collection

May 24, 2004, 11:48pm
What a wonderful idea!!! I'm sure folks like me, who never really got to
spend much time getting to know Daphne will love to read all those anecdotes
and fond memories from the people who conversed with her on a regular basis
and/or worked side by side with her on projects. Unfortunately Daphne and I
never did get to know each other and only communicated via telegram on
occasion. Seemed she was always busy, doing something. I would love to get
to know her better, even if by reading about her, as described by the folks
who knew her best. ;-")

Re: CY Results?

May 24, 2004, 11:40pm
I know I really SHOULDN'T reply to this but I feel an overwhelming need to
anyway. WTF are you thinking???? Or do I even want to know? Do you REALLY
believe President Bush or anyone in political office here condones the
actions of those morons over in Iraq??? What kind of an idiot are you to
assume every one of the representatives of my country are to blame for
everything that you despise about the USA? I know the president here isn't
perfect. Nobody is. Heck, I'm sure you wouldn't do much better either. (You
probably wouldn't with all the bigotted hatred you are oozing with). Bush
isn't the worst President we've ever had. He is mediocre, considering what
he has to deal with in today's society. True he isn't as great or as
respected as Lincoln, but then again, even Lincoln had his enemies. Years
from now when a truly worse President comes along we will look back and
remember that Bush wasn't so bad. He just makes choices that HE believes in
and thinks we all should believe in. So I guess in your own opinion (even
though you are NOT a taxpaying citizen in the USA, nor legally allowed to
vote) Bush and the rest of the Republicans, whether they are upstanding
politicians or not, should be dipped in hot boiling acid and burned at the
stake. Just to save the rest of the world. Nevermind..... on second
thought.... I don't wanna know wtf you're thinking. I'll just chalk it up
to another one of your silly rantings and assume your soapbox will rot very
quickly. ;-"D

Mars?

May 30, 2004, 7:06am
I STILL say........ if someone in aw can put up a Cy then why not Veger
too? He is the reason Mars won the award in the first place. He is the one
people voted for. Not the world itself. I think JP is acting immature about
it all by not allowing Veger what he has earned. Its not THAT bloody
difficult to add it to the registry for cryin out loud!!!

Mars?

May 30, 2004, 7:21am
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Veger)))))))))))))))))))))))))))) you haven't
lost me hon or a LOT of others who agree its not fair!!!!! What would AWI
be today if it werent' for dedicated individuals such as you to attract more
business or inspire folks to build? I guess its easier for them to just
chase good people like you away, hoping you will take your builds with you
so they can bring in some "fresh meat" to replace you and your builds.
Obviously they don't care whether you leave or not or whether you nuke your
builds or not. But the good people of AW do!!! You are proof that we need to
stick together as a community. To show our support for each other. To prove
our friendship with each other. You have inspired numerous people Veger, not
just with your kind words but also with your creativity and insight. If we,
as a community, turn our backs on you, we turn our backs on ourselves as
individuals. I try to stand by what is right. And I will stand with you as
well. Our friendship isn't dependent on a build, or the words you speak out
of anger. It goes deeper than that. Some people come to AW as an escape from
RL and the last thing they want is to get caught up in emotions online. My
reason for coming to AW is as an extension to my RL. I go there to make
friends, like so many others do. You will be sorely missed if you leave,
Veger. Not just by me, but by many people who admire and love you for who
you really are. I believe you deserve more than 1 Cy for putting up with all
this BS from JP and his laziness. Why ENZO or Mountain Myst can't handle it
either is beyond me. Too much trouble for 1 meazly person I guess. >_<

Question for JP and ENZO

May 28, 2004, 11:37pm
Why is it that a Cy statue is generously given to be used in a world such as
aw and yet if someone, like Veger, who has worked his butt off, wins a Cy,
he is told he cannot use the Cy statue in Mars? What is the difference? I
think it's unfair and he has earned the opportunity to have a Cy statue
object too. Surely there is no reason for him to be singled out like that.
Congratulated, but have nothing to show to others with pride for all his
hard work and dedication. I see no reason why that object cannot be allowed
for him to use.

Question for JP and ENZO

May 29, 2004, 12:00pm
And while I'm on the soapbox......... why was the teleport in Mars for Mars
Central taken away and a sign for the complaint department put up? I think
all the people who voted for Veger would like to know why he can't put up
his Cy like everyone else?? Its just not fair! What do the Cys mean if
there is someone not allowed to show pride in earning it? 0_0

Question for JP and ENZO

FYI: I talked for a little bit with Veger this evening. He got everything
straightened out with AWI as far as I know, including his cit. Thank you for
your offer to help bittie, but I don't think he needs it anymore.

Something Interesting on CNN.com

I used to be a cit in one of those universes of AW and paid for a plot. You
don't get much space for yer money honey. Talk about BI overload!!! Most of
the builds there were either small houses, small castles or small parks. And
depending on the builds surrounding yours, you could be in some serious lag!
My build was somewhat laggy but the guy next to me had even more! So when
visitors would come to my place, it was worse than trying to walk thru
almost dry cement. Some puters just can't handle that much lag and they shut
down. Some of my friends wouldn't visit my place cus of that and cus its
extremely frustrating to move. Makes aw look VERY appealing compared to
THAT. And compared to the price of registering with Second Life, AW is
cheap when you consider you get all the free land you want and objects too.
;-"D

Question Non-AW

Jun 4, 2004, 1:45am
I haven't had that experience but I do have a brother who is a whiz with
autobody stuff. When you pay Joe Shmoe, who might claim to have extension
experience with such a thing, to cut the hole in yer truck/car roof and
install the sunroof (which in itself will cost you money) you are the one
taking the risk that it won't seal very well against the elements. I
questioned my brother on this and he told me he would refuse to take that
chance. If the hole is larger than needed, you will have a leakage problem,
even if you caulk it. I'm sure you don't want mildew inside your nice
interior. My brother suggests you have the dealer do it, since they
specialize in that sort of thing. In the long run, for the amount of money
you'll be paying out, it'll give you some piece of mind to know that not
only is it done correctly but will also have a warrantee or three. And you
won't be breaking the warrantee that you already have on your truck ( I
believe in the states you have a year or two warranty on a used vehicle),
because it'll be the dealer doing the service. Anytime you have auto body
done on a new or used vehicle by someone other than the dealer you are
canceling the warrantee on that vehicle. (Maintanence is a different matter
as long as you save the receipts.) You might want to ask the dealer if they
can install a sunroof you purchased from someone other than them. It will
probably be cheaper since dealers usually jack up the prices on parts and
you can pick from a larger variety than what the dealer probably has
available. If the dealer doesn't have what you are looking for, they will
charge you extra cus they have to order it. If you bought your truck from a
Used car lot, call around to the different dealers in your area to check
prices and see what they offer. Its worth the extra bucks and piece of mind
to have a dealer install it. ;-"D

Unusual sighting

Jun 6, 2004, 10:47am
I believe you. The same, exact thing happened to me while driving home from
work 5 years ago. The couple of cars in front of me slowed down and so did
I. At the angle it was traveling I was sure it must've crashed somewhere in
a field nearby. I drove around the area but didn't see any flames or any
fire trucks. I watched the news faithfully for a couple of days afterwards
and read all the newspapers in the area. Nobody mentioned anything about it.
I told my family, my neighbors and my coworkers. Nobody heard anything about
it. I was sure it was some kind of meteorite. Weird that nothing was on the
news about it. I know I wasn't the only one who saw it. I know this reply
doesn't help you much, but you can be assured there might have been others
that saw the same thing you did. ;-"D

(shrugs) What can I tell ya hon? Somebody, long, long ago invented that

Jun 16, 2004, 11:46am
Yup, yer right swe!!! It's a conspiracy hon. All of us Americans decided to
do that just to confuse the rest of the world. C'mon hon. You seriously
believe this has been invented recently? We Americans cannot change a
century or two of a way of communicating date, time or measurement. All of
us who were born here have been raised with these systems already in place.
Our ancestors also were raised with it. We've been trying for decades to
become more comfortable using the metric system, but old traditions die
hard. Some people here, especially the old ones, cannot remember how many
centimeters are in an inch and so forth. Our children are being taught
metric in school because most of their parents aren't familiar with it. Heck
I didn't even learn about it until the late 1970's when I was in high
school!!! We're coming around, gradually. Just quit pointing the finger at
us to blame us for all the confusion. It wasn't our doing. ;-"p

Yup and that is commonly used today when estimating fabric when planning on
making clothes (it is approximately 1 yard from the tip of the average
person's nose to their fingertips when extending the arm straight out to the
side) ;-"D

Jun 16, 2004, 11:58am
whew!!! Thank you for being the person to explain in detail for our
"non-American" friends, why some people here still use ancient forms of
measurement. And also reminding us perhaps that America is made up of
diverse ethnic backgrounds. Most of the people in this country had ancestors
who came from other countries and brought their customs with them. IF they
learned the metric system at all from their native country, their family
would learn both ways of doing things. In my case, however, my German and
Swiss ancestors came to this country lonnnnnng before the French came up
with the metric system. And my great-great grandfather, who was from
England, obviously didn't know it either. Hence, none of my redneck family
had a chance to learn it or use it. And that's another thing (while I'm on
a roll) .... our children are learning all about it in our schools but
there isn't much need for it to be used in our society since most of our
country still uses the "old fashioned" methods of measurement. Its amazing
we all survived, isn't it? ;-"D
