First ... I've been offline for the most part of these past few weeks cause
my satellite modem (I think it was the modem but coulda been any thing on the dish too) failed. It finally choked. I am now on cable! Woohoo!!! Next ... I am truly sad to hear of those that have passed away, especially Daphne, she will be truly missed! Now ... being offline isn't *all that bad* ... I did get to make an additional 11 skyboxes which brings the total up to 18 total now. I love mountains and that is what most contain. Mountains unfortunately don't work really well with aw cloud layers (unless you imagine yourself in a valley between mtns and the clouds in the valley). However, I still wish to put them out there for anyone who wants them. You can get them either in my world Aeon at these coords 28.10N 26.74W 0.00a 180 (fly up to see the rows behind the object row). Or, you can fetch them off of my website http://63.249.155.229/Aeon/main.html (left column for free stuff). I've made some *stand alone* and I've made three *sets* ... two the sets can be used for time of day changes (dawn, day, dusk and night) and the third set is a seasons change (spring, summer, fall and winter). I hope you like them. Please let me know if you use them in your world ... I'd love to see how you get the cloud layers to work with them! Finally, I'd like to thank tunablues, dreamer2 and sylsea for covering my b'day/gift/condolences setup hinny while I've been having *connection issues*! Congrats to all those who won in the CY Awards, for which I missed the whole dang thing :o{ I'm glad to be back! Hugzzz... Lady NightHawk Aeon world -- lioness.May 25, 2004, 7:34pm

Welcome back! Hope you enjoy your new cable connection. Just be sure to
have, at the very least, a firewall in place. :) Builderz http://www.3dhost.net veraMay 25, 2004, 9:50pm

K, any suggestions? I have two puters ... the main one (mine) is a Win XP
Pro, hubby's laptop is networked via a hub (not a router yet). I have win xp's firewall on and zonealarm pro ... not sure what to get for a router/firewall that will allow us to share the printer and files on our own puters. Any info would be appreciated. Hi LNH,
I believe your "skybox sets" are actually basic panoramas. Skybox sets are usually atleast 5 or 6 textures in a set that go on a cube model. Unless you're just displaying the set in panoramic style on your page? Sharon andrasMay 26, 2004, 11:06am

Most of them really plug and play but if you run any server behind it, you need to learn to tweak them (fairly simple operation). I would install ZAP on the laptop too :) -- Andras "It's MY computer" (tm Steve Gibson) wt oMay 26, 2004, 1:14pm
If you and your hubby both play in AW and like to play the bingo games in
AW, you may wish to pay the extra $7 for another IP#. A router allows only 1 IP# visible online where situations like Trish, Bounce and I all like to play bingo so we are paying for the extra IPs...no other equipment to purchase, just the IPs and our hub. As far as networking the printer, if you have XP...try using the network wizard. I have to run it in order to make our printer where Trishia can print from the printer hooked to my puter. Also, in the network connections probperties...may want to disable the XP firewall. It could make some people to not be able to access any world(s) you may be hosting on your compter and make printer sharing not connect. There are a lot of firewall proggies around but I have always been faithfull to what Symantic(Norton) and/or McAfee has to offer. WT o [View Quote] builderzMay 26, 2004, 2:41pm
If you have a MultiNAT or dual-WAN (two WAN ports) router, you can use
more than one IP address on a single router. However, like you said, it may just be easier to buy/lease another IP address from your ISP and use it with a hub or switch. Builderz http://www.3dhost.net [View Quote] builderzMay 26, 2004, 2:54pm
Here are some suggestions for you:
1) On the computer that already has ZoneAlarm Pro installed, update it to the latest version if your license hasn't expired. There have been many enhancements to it in recent months. 2) On the second computer, I would disable the built-in Windows XP firewall, as it only protects you against incoming threats by default and won't protect you if a Trojan horse or other nasty program tries to send data out over the 'Net. I believe Microsoft is going to add outbound support with Windows XP Service Pack 2, but until then, you should get a better firewall. I would recommend getting ZoneAlarm Free. It has the basic features of ZoneAlarm Pro, but doesn't cost you anything. 3) For routers, like Andras said, most use UPnP nowadays, so they try to automatically detect your network settings. Generally speaking, just go with a decent name brand router like D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, etc. If you want a wireless router, make sure it has good encryption support. Also, whichever router you pick, be sure to check the manufacturer's website and update the router's firmware to the most recent version and change the default password. 4) If you want to gain a little speed boost, replace your hub with a switch. You can get them really cheap nowadays. 5) I don't have cable Internet access, but I know that some cable ISPs actually put you behind the cable company's own firewall or proxy server to help protect against malicious threats. However, even if your connection is setup this way, this won't protect you against anyone on your cable node trying to probe or break into your computers. 6) Go to http://grc.com and have fun reading. :) 7) Be sure to also get a good anti-virus program that auto-updates at least once a week. You may also want to look into Spybot, Ad-Aware, SpywareBlaster to help keep spyware under control. They are all free or have free versions available. Hope that helped. As with most that want to show the skybox I have made it look like a mini
panoramic so you can see the four sides ... these are true *cubed* skyboxes with 5 or 6 different textures that line up seamlessly. These are not panoramics. BTW I have the first of what I'm calling an *envirobox* in my world Aeon, I'm testing it out and will be making more available soon. What an envirbox will be is a skybox without the sky part. What I did was have Terragen render the images without a sky (so it's black up there). Then I created a mask for each. In the envirobox rwx I have put in both texture and mask. A black sky with a black mask makes that part (where the sky would be on a normal jpg) disappear. That done I can now use aw's sky colors! Come and have a look. Teleport way out in the boonies of the world so you aren't forced to d/l what you don't want. This first envirobox was done using my own *Spirit Dawn* skybox with some alterations. You can compare the look using the panoramic view on my website while in my world. LNH -- [View Quote] lady nighthawkMay 26, 2004, 3:46pm
Hi wt ... I did do the networking setup. What we have here now is HUB (not
router yet) to computer, modem to HUB, both of us to HUB. We will be getting a router also. And ya, hafta install ZA on hubby's laptop (will do the free one for his). We use to be able to share the printer when the HUB was on my pc and we were networked where he accessed through my pc. He no longer has to do that but also can't use the printer (which btw is connected to my pc via usb and there is no ethernet port for it). I'm not sure what to do next. Thanks all for the advice.
