Hi,

I am having a problem staying in AW.
I did not have this problem before I un-installed and then re-installed the
AW 3.5
build.

When coming into AW now, it asks me for my password and will tell me its
incorrect
till about the 4th attempt and then it accepts it. Once in AW, the
programme closes without
any warning, I can just be talking, walking or even click one of the
icons, like grams,
avatar, camera view.. and poof.. I'm gone!

On trying to re-enter.. I get one of the following messages:
"Unable to initialize rendering library (Reason 491)".... (I have no idea
what that is)
"Unable to start in Direct 3D mode. Active worlds will now continue in
software mode instead"

While there are times I do not get that message at all, and manage to enter
AW,
the programme is closing is closing on me.

Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me please? I am not a
puter
boffin but can follow set out instructions! :))

Try re-installing AW again or modifying the video settings for AW.

Yup in Options, Settings, Video, try putting the Hardware T&L Support
checkbox on or off. Or choose OpenGL instead.
Software mode is compatible with any video card, but slow.
If you install AW again, put it into a new folder this time.

So, you don't check "Remember password for next time" at login?

And as usual, make sure your virus and firewall protection is up to date.

If you do reinstall AW, first uninstall any instance of it. Then reboot yer
puter, then reinstall 498 if you can find it. Once that's installed and
working then perhaps try installing 532 into another folder. Then at least
if that one doesn't work you should be able to go to the other install and
get in from there? Good Luck...

Hi , thank you all for your suggestions and help. I have tried everything
and still have the same problem. (Couldn't find build 498 though)

With the limited knowledge I have about anything technical, I think I
may have to have my video card checked and probably replaced. If
I knew where to check what graphics card I have, I would say so,
but I have no idea where to find it! lol (I'm useless huh? ;p )

I'm sure aw would prefer us to use 3.5 but it's just not feasable for some,
3.4 (498) can be d/l here

LNH is quite correct, last release of AW 3.4 was 498

Starfleet is right. If you click the link LNH posted you would get 495.
498 was the last 3.4 version, but was only attainable through the
browsers autoupgrade feature, not via the AWI website. 498 is no longer
available since the autoupgrade via the aw browser now upgrades to 3.5.
(If someone really wanted 498 tho I do have it and could send it
lol...I have copies of alot of the older versions, since newer isnt
always better :p)

Well at least I tried to get her 3.4 LOL ... I have 498 myself (and of
course 532) and assumed the d/l was that ... I stand corrected.

downloaded 495 and as Ciena says, its working fine!

Thanks again to all of you for all the help and input! But I still have one
question, the fact that I cannot run the latest build, would that be a
problem
with my graphics card.. or a bug in the build?

aw should keep the link on their site since not all can use 3.5 version.

498 is the last 3.4 browser. It is incredible that after all the work
that went into that browser, AW has not updated the 3.4 installer.
Typical.

The fixes in 498 are very important: they concern a long standing
problem caused when avatars fade away (when they leave), which made
browsers crash. If you had avatar animations off, the crashes did not
occur. I spent two weeks testing, and so did many in a Dutch universe
that was having constant problems with crashes. Chrispeg in the end
found the error and managed to fix it.

I hope AW staff reads this and takes a few minutes of their valuable
time to update the installer, for their own glory and for all those
who need it.
