I do think the VRT clock is out of sync though... AWI should sync it
more often. I think the current system is adequate. We can't exactly have the browser contact the AWI server every second for the new time now, can we? lol [View Quote] DirextX 9 support for Active WorldsMar 16, 2004, 6:15pm
AFAIK, and I could be wrong, not very hard. This is one of the things M$
tries to make easy for developers so they can cash in on DX by making people buy new versions of Windows. Someone should rebel against M$ and make loads of games in DX6 or something. [View Quote] Organizing Contact ListsMar 16, 2004, 6:16pm
Wether or not this would be hard depends on what AW is using to program.

I was going to suggest this a while ago but I thought it would be too
hard. But then I found something. MOZILLA SUPPORT I HATE IE. Really really hate IE. I would love to have Mozilla in my web window. And I found out there's an ActiveX control for it that's almost EXACTLY like the IE one. http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/control.htm Maybe AWI could switch over to Mozilla *entirely*. Then they would be able to break away from this: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/license/samples/external.asp Different fonts for signs...Mar 21, 2004, 7:35pm
Maybe there is a way to download the fonts into the AW folder and use
them without having to install them. I'm not sure if that's possible but in theory it should be. This Area Is Too Full Message From Building InspectorMar 31, 2004, 2:32pm
Lag isn't dependant on how many objects are in an area. It is dependant
on how many POLYGONS are in an area. [View Quote] General WishMar 31, 2004, 3:25pm
How to keep the old way? Use the old world server. I don't think the
Uniserver disallows old world servers, correct me if I'm wrong someone. Ohh is this to prevent easy vandalism? Dedicated vandals will probably
just use AWHack 4 to disable it. [View Quote] > She wants a world option to disable Ctrl+Insert > [View Quote] "Actions" TabMar 31, 2004, 3:31pm
What would be cool would be a world-specific "Actions" tab.
I don't mean like avatar actions. I mean like customisable actions that could be set in some type of worldserver-side file (like the registry), some sort of ini file: "Teleport to Alphaworld" teleport "aw" "Go to Homestar Runner" url "http://www.homestarrunner.com" "Check Bank Balance (RPG or something)" sdkevent 20 I dunno about the sdkevent thing. As far as I remember you can send numbers to the bots or something so that could be like an Action button. Basically it would be like what you've done with the customisable buttons on the new toolbar skins except world specific. AW 4.0 should have a cool logoMar 31, 2004, 3:37pm
It should be like "AW4" because 4 looks like A, see? So instead of
Active Worlds 4.0, AW4. Although just for the logo. Regarding AW 4.0Apr 1, 2004, 3:36pm
I think a fullscreen mode would be good for the people who are having
low framerates. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but giving DirectX exclusive control of the screen increases the framerate. [View Quote] No idea if this has been done already but...Apr 1, 2004, 3:38pm
Make it extremely hard for script kiddie n00bs to make an AWHack 4.

I thought what they were doing was editing values in RAM.

Well they've already done something like that for universe owners. But
for the files on the hard drive, try file://C:\ instead of http:// [View Quote] see AW in a new wayJul 9, 2004, 11:30am
Problem there is that AW's massive security holes get blown right open,
because it has them. (Most notably the IE intergration...) [View Quote] see AW in a new wayJul 9, 2004, 3:05pm
Day/Night Button for Alfa World!Aug 29, 2004, 3:21pm
Linux versionAug 29, 2004, 3:30pm
Maybe not a fully featured one... e.g. if it would be too hard to get
the web window to work with another browser, just remove that feature. It's just annoying trying to emulate AW on Linux because some parts don't work properly, or emulate reeeeally slowly. Also since a TrueType font is used in AW, it doesn't show properly at all in Linux (especially on signs) because Linux TrueType rendering engines are crappy because they have to get round patents. Nasty patents. :( Until then, AW addicts like me are forced to use Windows. :( Linux versionAug 29, 2004, 4:12pm
They have Chrispeg now. Also there are tools that can help with the
conversion of Windows programs to Linux programs. Expanding the userbase is something the other 3D programs AREN'T doing though, which would give AW an advantage. There's userbase: Internet Explorer users Second Life's userbase: Windows 2000/XP or Mac OS X (still in beta) As you can see, they're only catering to the most numerous groups. [View Quote] [View Quote] Linux versionAug 29, 2004, 4:31pm
Yeah, when you select an object in building it does lag. What emulator
is that? And distro? Etc etc etc. I'm using WINE on Gnome on Fedora Core 2. It should be toggle on at the object creation level, and be off by
default so that it doesn't change current buildings. [View Quote] AW is the home of vampires...Sep 6, 2004, 7:28pm
Worlds uses RenderWare?
World is really laggy though, partly because it's coded in Java. Can't remember where I heard that.
