We need reflections in aw, doesn't worlds.com have it? and they use old
technology *points at e n z o* use your ninja skills and steal the source! or write it yourself :) c'mon it'd only lag half the dial up users, but shoe of us on cable would love you... tony mSep 6, 2004, 7:08pm
I remember visiting Worlds a few months ago, and they have a real implementation of mirrors in RenderWare 2.x.
It leaves you to wonder just how efficiently AW is making use of RenderWare. Worlds uses RenderWare?
World is really laggy though, partly because it's coded in Java. Can't remember where I heard that. RenderWare DLLs are found among the program files, so I can only assume it's using RenderWare... unless someone just never bothered to clean up the installer or something.

Reflections should at least be an option for those who have computers fast
enough. But contrary to what C P said, connection speed sould not have anything to do with how fast one's computer works with reflections. ferruccioSep 7, 2004, 10:56pm
But still it's rendering, not connection-related. Once the data for the
reflection is transferred to the computer (such as an object type download or some sort of integrated feature with the browser) the user does not need to have to worry about having a slower connection just because he or she can see reflections. [View Quote] sw comitSep 7, 2004, 11:11pm
The connection type, whether it be 56k or cable/dsl, does nothing more than
download the object models, textures, and their respected locations. Once that's done downloading other parts in the computer take over, such as the video card and CPU. Reflections is a rendering feature, so connection type has nothing to do with it. Not sure what you mean by noobs though....all noobs have dial up? *boggle* [View Quote] johnfSep 9, 2004, 7:26pm
I'm not a "noob" and I have dialup.... well... 1-way Satellite too... but
until February 16th I can't get anything faster through a cable. John [View Quote] lioness.Sep 13, 2004, 10:53am
I was a VIP in Worlds.com for a few months earlier this year and,.. yes,..
it was EXTREMELY laggy, especially at their GZ. I have cable connection but have a sucky puter and the reflections didn't cause any problems at all for me. Even when my av wasn't downloaded, the reflection in the mirror had absolutely NO lag whatsoever. I could easily see the reflection of the area surrounding me. (I have some screen shots of my av in front of the mirrors for those who are interested- gram me with your email addy and I will gladly share them with you) And the reflections in Worlds.com were more clear than the textures in my opinion. The textures were VERY pixelated for me. LOL A few people there told me it was because most of the older textures there weren't compatible with XP. However, I know for a FACT that a few builders there have been using textures found on Lara's website for years, so I don't think it was the textures that were the problem. ;-") PS: I remember bringing up this very topic several times in the NGS. I guess AW is more in need of updating their object yards and av selections more than anything right now. And I can understand why. But can you imagine the increase of new visitors to AW if reflections were possible???? And for those of you who are wondering........ AW still RULES over Worlds.com. Even tho Worlds had streaming video, reflections and customizable (and easier-on-the-eyes) avs long before AW. The "building plots" they offer are tiny "worlds" and have limited objects to use. Building there is soooooo complicated also. And even though one can "float" if one resets their altitude, one cannot fly or go thru objects. ;-"D [View Quote] rossyboySep 17, 2004, 4:07pm

Euh... IE uses heavy interface-based coding, its by far the easiest and most
powerful thing thing to interface, like most MS things. - MR [View Quote] |
