This is something I have been wanting ever since the move command was
created. What I want is when your avatar is hit by a moving object (with the
move command), your avatar would move with it (ie, if you step on an object
that is moving up, you would move up with it like you wree standing on an
elevator. Or, if you standing on a floor peice that moves forward, you move
forward with it). This feature would add so many more building options, more
realism, and more plain old coolness and fun! It's my biggest pet peeve
making things like elevators and not being able to use them! If your worried
about any kind of vandolism, or people being moved who don't want to be,
maybe you can add an option in the settings "allow to be moved by objects".
In conclusion this feature would make active worlds so much more fun and
really should be included

E N Z O said something in AWGate about *MAYBE* avatars being able to be
pushed by objects with the release of 3.4.

That would require a MUCH better physics engine. I'll believe it when I see it!

You can actually do a decent slow-moving elevator with "bump warp" object that moves the av in small increments. I have a manhole cover in Hole (old) world with "activate move 0 10 0 wait=15 time=20;bump warp +0 +0 .003a" that works relatively well, but it does cause the av to bounce as it's going up. Unfortunately, any lower altitude increments will cause the av to eventually fall through the manhole cover (but sometimes the manhole cover will move up through the av and only consistently warp the av up by its head).

I think it would be pretty easy to get it to work for at least vertical. As
long as your avatar is moving (and a second or two after you stop moving),
you get carried up and down if it's not moving too fast. If the browser
were to be tricked into thinking you were always moving, then it could work
(keypoint being how it still works a couple seconds after you stop moving).

It should be toggle on at the object creation level, and be off by
default so that it doesn't change current buildings.

Oops I meant 4.0. Also, I'm not sure E N Z O actually said that.. I just
vaguely remember. I could have misheard the whole thing X_X

Yeah, the walk avatar is already affected by all sorts of moving objects.
Object friction, though (dragging the avatar around) would be much harder to
impliment. But I don't think that objects simply pushing a stationary
avatar would be that hard.

That's a good idea especially with invisible bump panels that move to keep
everyone in sync.

Why bother with a whole physics engine thing? If AW Can move objects that
easily, why can't it move user perspectives too? The technology has been
around for years. We don't need friction and inertia to be perfectly
emulated. It just frustrates me so much to see people arguing about how hard
it would be to make everything work just as it would in real life down to
the molecular level when that isn't even what we're asking for.

I'm sorry if I stepped out of line there, but... why can't move commands be
applied to avatars? And it's such a basic request, too! Even when AW came
out, just about every 3d engine demanded some sort of function for objects
that move users around!

So it WOULDN'T be simple to make a moving object offset AV Location by its
own movement?

Most of AW's features were implemented half-assedly (i.e. incompletely) so, really, it should be no surprise that avatars aren't affected by move/rotate commands anymore than it should be no surprise that the rotate command didn't even have a "wait" option when it was first introduced (yet the move command did). Still, it should be no surprise neither move/rotate commands have a loop amount option--or even an infinite loop option.

And this is just OBJECT animation...I haven't even begun on avatars yet.

Apparently, to do ANYTHING in AW requires a lot more effort than the current developers are willing to put into it...
