Thanks, Xelag, for another handy utility.

Does the 3rd one have a script? If the script auto-starts, the bot will too.

If the script has the "Run" statement in the [Settings] section, it will auto-start.

[Settings]
Origin=0.000n 0.000w 0.00a 0.0
Run

Removing "Run" will make the script stop auto-starting.

NOTICE REGARDING "PestPatrol" AND CHATRELAYBOT SOFTWARE

Jun 28, 2004, 6:04pm
A user has recently voiced his concern regarding the findings of a spyware detection utility known as PestPatrol. The software has claimed that the ChatRelayBot’s NSIS uninstaller contains a keylogger known as ‘Ardamax Keylogger 1’.

I have checked, and can confirm that PestPatrol does “suspect” the uninstaller of having a keylogger, even after I have locally rebuilt the installer. I can only assume that PestPatrol’s claim is a false positive, since Ad-Aware and SpyBOT do not find any problems with my generated uninstaller.

Please note that PestPatrol is only capable of saying the uninstaller is “suspected” to have the keylogger; it cannot 100% prove that the keylogger is present. As Ad-Aware and SpyBOT have also scanned the file without finding anything, one can only conclude that the PestPatrol software is raising a false alarm.

If there are still concerns, NSIS is an open-source system and their source code may be viewed directly: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/nsis/NSIS/

NOTICE REGARDING "PestPatrol" AND CHATRELAYBOT SOFTWARE

Jul 4, 2004, 9:29am
The ChatRelayBot now uses a different installer package, which resolves the issue with PestPatrol.

Happy 4th of July!

ChatRelayBot

If you had the decency to privately contact me about the issue, then I would have investigated it for you.

Points I would like to make before I investigate this completely:

* Remember that another spyware tool also found problems with the ChatRelayBot installer in July.
* Neither ChatRelayBot 2.1 nor 3.0 contain any IRC code.
* The "newconf.exe" program is a simple utility which generates a basic configuration file to get new users started with the CRB. If requested, its source will be published.

I don't like it either, especially since you gave me no chance to look at this before notifying the public.

ChatRelayBot Security Bulletin: Backdoor.Irc.Flood

Oct 18, 2004, 12:19am
Spyware Doctor™ 2.1 (pctools.com), a spyware detection utility, has discovered what it believes to be a backdoor trojan (Backdoor.Irc.Flood) in the program file newconf.exe, the ChatRelayBot Configuration Assistant.

DLP probably has a really big problem if someone's stolen the universe caretaker PPW. Most likely, it's just DLP doing statistics.

AWI at one point (and maybe they still do) ran spiderbots to implement the "Search" tab; the bot entered your world, looked at what you entered for search keywords, and that was put in the database.

ChatRelayBot 3.1 Public Beta

Nov 15, 2004, 1:44am
After several months of closed-door testing, I now present to you version 3.1 of the ChatRelayBot.

Version 3.1 features a completely revised (and much simpler) graphical interface, as well as several sweeping changes under the hood. One of the more prominent changes in 3.1 is the introduction of native Linux® and FreeBSD binaries, thanks to Andras (http://www.andras.net/linuxsdk.html).

FreeBSD versions 4.9/5.3 and Linux® kernel 2.4 have been tested; the ChatRelayBot should function on other Linux® distributions.

ChatRelayBot 3.1 is available for download from the beta website, http://chatrelaybot.info

As usual, bug reports/suggestions/etc. should be discussed in the forums (http://forums.chatrelaybot.info)

illuminating built-in IE browser

Apr 1, 2001, 3:26am
Roland should just completely remove the built-in IE "browser" and just
call IE/NS separately. It's a lot easier to do that, plus the built-in
thing shrinks the viewport and the chat history. How fun is that? Maybe
add a confirmation dialog ("Do you want to launch this URL") too, it's
damn annoying when I'm trying to copy the URL and accidentally trigger
the stupid browser. Maybe even have a read-only editbox in the dialog so
you can select the URL, though that won't be needed if AW calls IE/NS
separately.

*sighs* this has already been raised, debated, and defeated.
It would put ALOT more lag on the Universe with the browsers querying
lots of users. This can be abused too, purposely lagging the system by
adding 1000+ contacts.

Apr 8, 2001, 1:21am
3.1 was released, as you *correctly* know. The beta people are now
testing new versions that may correct some lingering bugs, such as
*cough*theworldslist*cough*. There is no real significant difference
between 370 and 373 that would make 373 look different to 370.

Go on and buy your world :)

I concur with Captain Mad Mike.. If you were the only world with a huge
big bug in the new browser, nobody could get to fix it because you keep
ejecting the testers! Why does it matter, anyhow? They don't plan to do
anything major, i.e that will change the look of your world.

Trial worlds revisited

I think that after a year past a citizen's trial has expired, one would
be able to re-apply for yet another trial. The way Vectorscape works is
2 months after a trial expires, or so the last time I looked.
