A few friends of mine have found out that a spider bot has been in their
world in DLP What exactly is that and what does it do? anyone know? How
could one get in if they dont have bot rights?

'spider' bot? could be a world ripper, or just a admin to take the world
keywords.

DLP probably has a really big problem if someone's stolen the universe caretaker PPW. Most likely, it's just DLP doing statistics.

AWI at one point (and maybe they still do) ran spiderbots to implement the "Search" tab; the bot entered your world, looked at what you entered for search keywords, and that was put in the database.

When we implemented the "keywords" feature the point was to make a
searchable index of all the worlds.

The way it was supposed to work was World Owners would put in keywords and
the world rating, then we would run a bot that could jump in, do a quick
scan - reading the keywords and the rating and then compile a list. We
thought it was a good idea... but then some world owners complained about
the violation of privacy (when the bot entered a closed world). So we
turned it off

is that legal to go in private worlds and do that? and can they steal paths
with that bot?

you can't steal paths with a normal bot, maybe using a citsdk, but those
aren't easy to make/find, since well, AW doesn't actually make them.
and why would it be illegal? O_O all it's doing is checking the keywords.

I didnt understand why they need a bot to look at world rating. All they
gotta do is look on the world list or go in and look at world features.

Simple as that:
Visit the 1000+ world and write the info down manually then transfer it to the search system :)
Seriously:
The program gives full right to the Universe owner - Cit#1 can do anything anywhere. To fill up the Search system, you have to use a bot otherwise the job just not maintainable.
It is the same as the Google bot on your web pages - the only thing is missing that you can't tell the Cit#1 bot: don't come here.

Hope this helps,

Wrong - even the Cit#1 can't get the OP password!!
Only the browser gets it which can't render the world without it <and of course the admin bot/tool but this is the only one which doesn't have the Cit#1 privilege!!> :)

Lets not do that shall we :O

The OP pass decryption was cracked a long time ago, CT Bots do get it
encrypted as far as I can see.

We wrote ours in response to WO and citizens requesting a searchable DB. We
thought it was a good idea so we wrote our bot. Then some WO realized that
a bot would come into a "closed" world and decided they didn't like it. We
stopped. There is no legal issue involved and the use of the world server
software does come with a license.

IMO it was a loss, the searchtab would have been a much more usable feature.

What OTHER Universe owners or caretakers decide to do with THEIR Universe
caretaker rights is entirely up to them and the agreement you have with
them. If you do not like the way they operate there are a lot of other
Universes who would love to add your world.

you can't eject anyone with CT rights though, and cit #1 has ct everywhere.

Why not just take the bot off the universe CT (to an un-privlidged
account) and just let it search the open worlds?

The point of the search tab is to help users find a specific world they
are looking for (with minimal previous knowledge about the world), and
to help users locate worlds of interest to them based on a
keyword/catagory. Would you agree with that statement?

Why, then, would you want to include closed worlds in the search
database anyways? It's not going to be very helpful to return search
results including closed worlds. The people using the search tab are
generally looking for public worlds that match a given interest they have.

If a person has enter rights to a closed world, they're probably not
going to be searching for that world...

So, just set the bot to a normal account and let it run though the world
list. If it can't enter a world, then just skip it and move on to the
next. This would allow the the people with closed worlds to keep their
privacy. The people with open worlds obviously aren't too concerned with
their privacy (otherwise their world wouldn't be public), so they
shouldn't mind the bot coming in to index the world.

Sounds like a compramise to me...

I'm staying with aw. I tried other unis and everytime I been in them theres
from 0 to 6 to 20 users, AW still is ithe best in my opinion. Some only
allow a p5 world or p10 world and some charge just for a tiny lot. And some
Speak in another laungage. Some will close down probably but aw will always
be here. If aw ever goes down, they all will. So I stay here :)

You can eject *anyone* by adding their IP to the eject database.
Right-clicking to eject wouldn't work, but adding their IP would.
