How to determine AW_OBJECT_NUMBER without aw_query?

Sep 29, 2002, 2:28pm
One way to do it if you click on the object - then the SDK will receive all the info you can identify your object. Without doing that - you have to do at least an enumeration on the cell you are talking about.

After you built with terragen you have to change the Vertical Scaling to your taste and use the Vertical Offset to move it under ground.
To make it bigger - just select a larger world (P200) or change the bound rectangle values. Terrain can extend way beyond your world's limit!

After a long and heated debate with Brant, I have no other choice but warn the community about the behavior of Brant's programs.
His programs which are sharing the same splash screen "calls home" without the user's approval. Brant has a "Privacy policy" posted on his "General Info" page wich is not linked directly from the pages he mentioned above ( http://www.shoemakervillage.org/programs.html ). Read it and decide yourself if it makes you comfortable.

Here is my last post regarding to this issue. More can be read at news://news.andras.net/AW.VillageBeta newsgroup under the thread: [demeter] Security problem .

Hey folks - maybe this issue requires a clarification:

Imagine what Brant can do with your priv password! That is a caretaker account, so it puts your world into his merci!
He is clearly doesn't want to cut this option from himself (claiming it would take forever to change the code and oh yes - posting some lame privacy statement on his website!) - maybe that is the real reason he is so eager NOT to remove the call home feature?
It is true - there are spywares and all of us aware of it (and the clever ones never let them run on their machine) but I don't see ANY reason a silly bot calling home!!!
Disagree? Read again the first paragraph! Are you willing to lose everything in your world? Are you prepared to some vandalism? What if you can't access your world any longer? Who can make you sure he won't do that? His words? Well,,,,, just think about it!
I'm not accusing Brant any of that but the opportunity is there and we saw black sheeps in the past, didn't we?
If I want to update my program, I either check manually the site it supports it or I give temporary access the program explicitly (this is the so called "Opt-In" feature), so it can check itself.
I'm very disappointed that a really talented programmer (Brant) can't see the difference.

On my side - I finished with my arguments. If the program is released as it is - I'll warn the community about that and I'm standing firm behind my policy. I'm sorry to blackmail Brant, but if the security issue is not solved I have no other choice.

[View Quote] Ops sorry, I missed your post. As I explained to Strike in private email:
It is like you don't start to create your own AW browser or the spades bot or Xelagot. It is made by a respected programmer who did a good job on it. Why would anyone reinvent the wheel?
Especially since AW is charging for the bingobot if you want to rent one .

I call it a loyalty to the fellow programmer and to AW - maybe a wrong choice of the wording.

YASBB 1.3.1 released

Mar 14, 2003, 12:52pm
Hi folks,

I added a new feature to the YASBB (Yet Another Survey Build Bot):
It can survey terrains now. The result can be saved as a BMP or as a Terragen file for further processing (preferably in Dem2RWX:).

Enjoy,

Creating a nice .RWX browser...

Mar 25, 2003, 4:05am
[View Quote] <snip>
Unfortunately neither of us wrote the RWXMod. The author, Dataman, lost the sourcecode of the program and he is not willing to work on it any more.
You have to convert the textures to BMP and store it in the folder "textures" on the same level your RWX files are (or edit the options to specify the texture path).
Several new RWX files won't play in RWXMod due to the new "pseudo" RWX commands introduced by AW (if they are not prefixed with #! character sequence) causing the RWXMod just simply crash :(

char *l, *chat;
int val;

l=strtok(chat," \t,"); // points to the /avatar and replaces the " " (or comma or tab) with the NULL character
l=strtok(NULL," \n"); // points to the number and replaces the " " (or comma or tab or newline) with the NULL character
// effectively l will hold only the second token in the chat line
val=atoi(l);

-------------------------
Syntax

#include <string.h>
char *strtok(char *s1, const char *s2);

Description

Searches one string for tokens, which are separated by delimiters defined in a second string.
strtok considers the string s1 to consist of a sequence of zero or more text tokens, separated by spans of one or more characters from the separator string s2.
The first call to strtok returns a pointer to the first character of the first token in s1 and writes a null character into s1 immediately following the returned token. Subsequent calls with null for the first argument will work through the string s1 in this way, until no tokens remain.
The separator string, s2, can be different from call to call.

Note: Calls to strtok cannot be nested with a function call that also uses strtok. Doing so will causes an endless loop.

Return Value

strtok returns a pointer to the token found in s1. A NULL pointer is returned when there are no more tokens.

World stops running

Wiping the world (erasing the database) causes the world server not to respond for any request for a long time if the database was large. The same can happen when deleting large terrain.
I experimented this problem several times during the last 4 years <I did not have a large enough database before :)>
The same problem happens if a bot issues to much request to the server in a short period of time (creating terrain, mass building, etc).

naww - that wouldn't bring the server down - maybe congest the pipe it is connected. I had 80 users clicking and chatting like crazy for 36 hours on a P2 300MHz with not a single hickup.
OTOH I can bring down the server with a single bot (if it is on the LAN!) simply building too fast.
The problem lies on the database management IMHO.

Well,,,, I had problem with the Linux version, so I run that particular event on a w2k machine. Linux crashed the same way than the original post claimed, so I just switched to the windows version.

I use DEM2Rwx bot to create terrain (LARGE ones!) and sometimes when I used it to build (or use YASBB to build) it caused the same problem.
They can be found on my website: http://www.andras.net

That would be nice but the server uses C-Tree for database handling (and that reflects to Baron Sweetman's post too).
