Guardbot new version and some mandatory changes for the users

Jan 4, 2005, 8:36am
Hi folks,
Due to the fact that there are more and more crackers tries to break into my server, I added another security feature to the Guardbot's Password server.
It uses a password now and anyone who are willing to use my common password server should contact me for the password/username with the IP range they are running the bot on.
I did not want to implement any "call home" feature so I put my trust on all the users who are running my bot.
From now on - no old versions will be able to access the Password Server, so please d/l the latest one (http://www.andras.net/guardbot.html) and ask me for a password.

Happy New Year,

Apology for the news server

Jan 5, 2005, 6:57pm
Hi folks,

I owe you an apology for todays NG problems. I had to check and cleanup the authorization method for the posting/reading, so I'll have a better understanding how it works.
I had to make sure that the server works in all different circumstances - the cause of the frequent stops.

Thanks you for your understanding!!

For the X1 bot - you'll need a Windows server :(
Unlikely you'll find one.
I wonder when will XelaG bit the bullet and convert his bots for Linux? I did not hear from him since ages!

You would need a shell account with Remote Desktop Access feature. With that - you can run X1 or such as you would run it on your PC.

According to the web site it is using SDK24 (from year 2002)

No - to run under Linux, you have to use the libaw_sdk library I made for gcc.
http://www.andras.net/linuxsdk.html

Yes - the 4.1 will require some slight mods but with recompilation it will work.
Linux version will be available soon after the final SDK release (I hope)

The SDK has to interrogate the uniserver for the aw_citizen_attributes command and you get only the citizen number, nothing else:
(Note that all attributes are returned only if this instance is owned by the universe root account (citizen #1). Otherwise, only AW_CITIZEN_NUMBER and AW_CITIZEN_URL are returned.)
That info you can already have by the AVATAR_ENTER event (if you use it).
The timer suggestion I made is speeding up everything (at least on Mandrake or Debian for me) without having any actual body of the timer.
AFAIK the timer interrupt will release the control of the current thread, so the TCP stack can work much faster.

I'm glad you succeeded :)
In the Tree tab, there is an individual height offset settings, where you can manipulate or even cause random height offsets, in the Prop tab, you can set the final offsets of the built.
Probably the later is the best place to take the terrain offset in. ( just use your AW terrain offset settings*100 since that field is in centimeter)

We use that tool in egg hunt to randomly place the eggs inworld :)

The old SDK used to put the bot back to the world when the world reconnection occurred. The new one doesn't do that :(
