New to C++ ;(

[View Quote] [View Quote] On the contrary - I suggest to keep Dev C++ :)
..NET is evil!!!
OTOH I agree with Strike - threading is not a good idea with the SDK!
Consult with Lady NightHawk - she learned the SDK by herself and she is using Dev C++ :)

Tough question :)
If I need general tool, I prefer XelaGot (sorry Mark, your attitude drove me away from your Evo which seems a good bot too)
OTOH if I need a special bot for a particular task I prefer to write my own ( which is shared with the community :) like YASBB and Dem2RWX.

For those who don't know it yet - this post is my fault. To avoid the posting requests in the beta NG I set the "Follow-Up" header to wishlist resulting Roland's (originally intended to anyone replies to the thread) post to end-up here in the proper location. I'm sorry about the mishap.

Speed Limit!!!

Feb 7, 2001, 8:59am
First - wash your mouth it stinks.
Second - AW's coordinate system uses 10m units for a coordinate. All the objects and avatars are scaled properly (average height of an avatar is 1.8 meter - or 6' for you technically challenged). If that one is not good enough for you:
Third - read http://tnlc.com/rw/measurement.html .

Hope that help,
Andras

Delphi would be a nice choice _if_ RW libraries would be available in Borland format - which are not :(

You are both wrong. RW3 doesn't uses DLLs any longer but the libraries are linked with the application.

AW browser does NOT uses and doesn't install any RW dlls. Yes - they were able to put in a perfect RW into 1.1 MB.

news group for misc stuff

Feb 21, 2001, 7:32am
Having a misc group will solve greatly the off topic posts problem - simply continuing a thread there (learn your browser's "Follow-up" option!). I was listening to that idea and added an "OffTopic" tree to my ng. Unfortunately Follow-up doesnt work between different news servers.

news group for misc stuff

I strongly disagree. Ppl need forum where they can discuss what is in their mind. Most of the posters here rarely uses other newsgroups (no pun intended!) I bet most of them still thinks NG is another way of chat (but a slower one) which is of course bad but .... What would it cost to set-up an ng were everyone can talk about anything? For AWCI - as a publicly traded company (don't start to debate this issue please) has to keep the traffic in a controlled manner (one of the reason those private groups are not open for everyone). We can't think they will provide us a group where everyone can state her/his opinion regardless of the ng owner. Would you like to have your own ng where you read nothing else but bashing you? I doubt. I agree with you on the "Keep the posts on topic" agenda but there is no other opportunity to post something absolutely off topic. people need it! (maybe you are an exception :) That is the reason I'm an advocate to have such a group either within AWCI (which I doubt will happen) or on an independent NG where the rest of the topics are STILL aw related.

Don't forget - all of us were a beginner once. Some of us learned faster some didn't :)

What kind of stuff do you guys smoking????????
Increasing the visibility will screw the whole "query" process, the database structure and the SDK.

Use Teleport Pro to make a local replica of the site. Teleport Pro ( http://www.tenmax.com/teleport/pro/home.htm ) is able to refresh your local site checking the remote site's changes!

Free Internet without Banners?

Aug 11, 2001, 2:31am
[View Quote] Disagree. Cable can upload with a much more limited speed than SDSL (no - I'm not talking the "cheap" ADSL connections). It is inherent to the cable technology that you can have a high speed download (carrier is around 200MHz) but your upload it much less (never exceeds 32 KBytes/sec) because it's carrier frequency is only 38 MHz or around.
With DSL - you can have a sychronous 1 MBits/sec bidirectional transfer speed.

[View Quote] It took me about 50 of your messages till I understood what you want. With whining and repeating endlessly your "dream" won't help.
Here are the causes why AW wouldn't make that feature in the near (or far) future:
- To change the backdrop with a button click - easy. BUT! That change will follow the person to areas where your ugly stuff doesn't fit. How the hell the browser will figure out WHEN to change it back? Imposing some artificial radius won't do good (you want the backdrop for 100 meters while the others want it 30 only). Adding those parameters would put another load to the server/browser.
- What happens if the person's disk cache is nearly full (reached the limit) ? Will the old backdrop loaded again? That would be insane. The size of the backdrop is prohibitive to load more than once.
- The ability to change it / enable the change would add some to the traffic too. (Not to mention that the world servers should have to keep track if this feature is enabled or not)

- last but not least - your silly "financial" proposal would make the option adding even more load to the auth server (the only place you can store that info). All those stuff should follow you to the world you are increasing the traffic again.

I hope I put some light behind the denial,
Andras
