sw comit // User SearchAlphaworld servers lately....Mar 30, 2005, 5:02am
From what I've noticed, the lag seems to be per user. I've heard quite a
handful of people now who have been complaining at the lag, but, never at the same time. It sounds as if the server was specifically "ignoring" certain clients. I had an ISP tech came out here today and they didn't really find anything wrong with the lines. We have been having some internet outages lately. But, all other worlds and programs and download speeds are running great (using 1.5 mpbs cable btw). Once again, today, half of the time it was caching regularly, the other half was slow...and by slow I mean like no normal person would wait around that long slow :P During my "regular half", it can't help but notice people who join me complain at the slow cache...hmmm O_o [View Quote] On the lighter side from the Boston StPatric's day paradeMar 26, 2005, 5:51pm

Guess not. I never had a problem with the occasional humorous joke posted
here. Me wonders if your just against it because it's a Bush joke :P Even as a bush supporter, I thought it was funny anyway *shrug* [View Quote] GO PKs!!Mar 29, 2005, 4:03am
Don't pin this on the whole PK organization. I've noticed them to be a very
competant organization for years now. Granted they may have a few bad apples, given their size. I'm sure they'll deal with it fairly... give it time. [View Quote] GO PKs!!Mar 29, 2005, 4:11am
Give it time and take it to official, formal channels I should say...vs
ranting about it here. [View Quote] GO PKs!!Mar 30, 2005, 1:05am

Aww come on now...correct me if I'm wrong but is this the first time you've had serious trouble with the PKs? Your at AWGZ everytime I go there, for year after year and year now. One bad experience and your calling it quits? O_o GO PKs!!Mar 30, 2005, 5:08am
lol well that's one way of putting it :P
In other words, taking your problem to official channels will yield results the quickest. Add all the PK core to your contact list and try to get a 1 on 1 conversation with them in AW when you see one pop online. Don't let some PK determine your citizenship. That's crazy talk X_X [View Quote] We Need a Court SystemMar 31, 2005, 4:44am
lol that's funny you mention Ferruccio...I tried to get him to build a
courthouse for SW City forever. Just not interested though him X_X On a side note, if you want to see my courthouse... AW 1672S 4786E 270 It's a lil' small, but, that was sorta the intention :P - SW Comit We Need a Court SystemApr 5, 2005, 3:17am

It's a small courthouse with only one courtroom in it, upstairs. Someday I'd like to have a full size courthouse though. [View Quote] AWI - write your light codes down >_<Apr 1, 2005, 1:42am
Ugghh do you realize that whenever you change the ambient lighting by even a
hair, all color matched pictures and signs, which are a pain to set up mind you, get mismatched? I had logos that blended into the walls of buildings, and now they don't match anymore. Quit breaking our stuff X_X Write the exact color used please. - SW Comit Tonight! - SW City's 6th Birthday BashApr 2, 2005, 4:35am

There's a good list of reasons why, but it wouldn't be approriate to post them here. [View Quote] This is Community isn't it?Apr 11, 2005, 7:21pm

I've noticed the same thing. I'd use OpenGL if it weren't for that bug,
because openGL doesn't have the 8 light limit like DirectX does. I wish AW would improve current features like this instead of adding new ones. [View Quote] OpenGL light radius control is screwed...Apr 19, 2005, 9:46pm
Brightness .5 is default. You don't need to type that in. Also you don't
need the 0 in the front. Just an FYI. [View Quote] Local path doesn't work anymore?Apr 17, 2005, 3:59am
I was looking at the Local Path setting in the advanced options, and viewed
its details here: http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw36/advanced.html Does that feature work anymore? A couple others and I couldn't get it to work no matter what we tried. I emailed AW support about it a few days ago...no reply :P Anyone here know? - SW Comit Local path doesn't work anymore?Apr 17, 2005, 9:06pm

*checks my sent box* I sent 6 emails to AW since February, and only 1 got replied to so far... Is there anybody out there? [View Quote] about swcity.net...Apr 23, 2005, 2:06pm
In case anyone is in the dark about it, the reason its down is because there
was a dispute between our host and the server farm they rent from. We waited for them to work it out but they didn't. So then we waited for them to get a new server farm contract, but that took so long so we decided to change our host back to our old host (whom we only switched away from because we got a good deal. Guess you get what you pay for). Now we're having some difficulties getting the account set up with the new host >_< Not sure when it'll be worked out. Shouldn't be much longe, though. - SW Comit Is AW Newsletter dead?May 3, 2005, 9:01pm
Just wondering...the link seems to point to the AWEC calender now, which,
btw, makes AW looks like an old folks home if you look at it. Bingo, poetry, tea parties? lol :P Someone outa' fill the job, I'm sure there's plenty of volunteers willing if AWI simply asked... - SW Comit PeaceKeepers: A Modest Proposal (rant)May 6, 2005, 11:07pm
I like PKs...though I can see what you mean about the PKs that monitor AW.
It seems a lil' too childish and restrictive. But I think that's AWI's fault, not the PKs. They're just following orders. I think the PK Bot would definantly help the idling PK problem though. Notice: Annual Invite DayMay 13, 2005, 4:50pm
omg at you guys making a big deal out tourist vandalization. The most petty
offense in AW it, who the hell cares :P Can delete it in 2 seconds you, and, its a sign to actually maybe protect your property. [View Quote] Road RevolutionMay 20, 2005, 9:19pm
While the NGs were down, I wrote up a guide directed towards town/settlement
owners. It's a guide about how to make roads more than just property markers, which is a common trait in 99% of towns. In other words, trying to make roads look realistic. Hopefully, it might give you some ideas to keep you busy for awhile if your looking for something to do in your town. Here's some more guides I've typed up recently. Might be useful to some...
How to keep frame rates high - http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=3496.0 A guide for advanced builders looking to keep lag to a minimum. How to make linear hills - http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=3484.0 For those who can't use terrain features, here's a guide to making long hills useful for dividing defined areas of land. How to make pictures blend in perfectly - http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=3358.0 A guide for making logos or text images blend into a textured wall seemlessly. How to make realistic roads - http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=3440.0 My previous thread, thought I'd put it here too to keep it all together :P - SW Comit More guides for buildersMay 23, 2005, 8:22pm
No? I heard of the occasional time out, but it should be working fine.
Refresh if it times out. [View Quote] More guides for buildersMay 24, 2005, 3:27pm
I was about to disagree but I just went into the world and made a lineup of
coronas and looked down the line. Hmmmm I don't get it, this use to cause insane lag but now nothing...did AWI silently fix it? Ah well, I guess I'll remove that tip then. Not too concerned about using the light command. Never really get noticeable lag with em', and the 8 light limit makes them pretty much useless anyway. [View Quote] More guides for buildersMay 24, 2005, 3:39pm
Ah wait a sec. I only get that corona problem in OpenGL mode, not DirectX.
Did some experiements.... Viewing a coronas through coronas without light = no lag Viewing a coronas through coronas with light = laggy Looking over coronas with light = laggy, but not as bad as above Looking at a ton of simple lights = slightly laggy but not too bad [View Quote] More guides for buildersMay 24, 2005, 3:57pm
Ah yea, the only reason I added this was because we have this area with
hundreds of high res images that form an ultra high resolution map of our city. And it's laggy as hell for some people. While in comparison they were able to view most builds just fine. Here's something from the AW 3.0 release notes: "Unlike previous versions of Active Worlds, where all textures were limited to a fixed size of 128 x 128 pixels (or 256 x 256 pixels in the "high res" CD version), in 3.0 and later a variety of texture sizes are supported, including 64 x 64, 128 x 128, 256 x 256, and even 512 x 512 (although not all video cards support textures that large). Active Worlds decides what size texture to use based on the size of the JPEG original - the larger the JPEG, the larger the texture. This allows efficient use of texture memory while simultaneously providing access to a very high level of texture detail if and when it is required." I don't recall any change to this system since then, though 1024x1024 would be a nice addition ;D [View Quote] |
