Alphaworld servers lately.... // Communitysw comitMar 22, 2005, 10:03pm
For about the past 2 weeks, the Alphaworld servers for me have been
soooooooooo sloooowwww. Last night I was scanning a 40x40 coord area of town with a xelagot and it took literally 40 minutes. The rest of the time, the world caches data ridiculously slow...I have to just go afk and come back later. And the most annoying is building. Having the past 2 minutes of work suddenly pop and then get a "waiting for server" error...ugh. It's impossible to do a cell select and delete it. I bounce, and everything deleted is there again. My friends notice the same thing. It seems to happen off and on. About half the time its been like this for me. What's going on? >_< andrasMar 22, 2005, 10:20pm

That could be that your ISP took a cheap route there :( -- Andras "It's MY computer" (tm Steve Gibson) strike rapierMar 22, 2005, 10:24pm
Nope - AW Server is being completly screwed, sometimes its taking 10 or 11
seconds to send all of the avatar event data, and response times on messages to it via SDK are upto 5 or 6 seconds. Oh, and random near-perminant WFS's every so often. - MR [View Quote] tart sugarMar 22, 2005, 11:40pm
I don't know anything about that, but I've noticed .wavs sound warped.
Especially the Deport .wav ~ TS [View Quote] builderzMar 22, 2005, 11:54pm
AW uses InterNap bandwidth (which is generally very good). Check this
page out to see how their routing looks compared to other major bandwidth providers: http://scoreboard2.keynote.com/scoreboard/Main.aspx?Login=Y&Username=public&Password=public If the routes all look okay, then it most likely an issue with your ISP or the AW server itself. -Builderz captain mad mikeMar 23, 2005, 12:19am
I have noticed some poor performance as of late as well. Things do cache
very slowly, and I often partially lose connection with the uniserver, thus clearing my contacts and worlds list. I have to reconnect whenever that happens. Never happened before until just a few months ago (like 2...) -CMM [View Quote] veraMar 23, 2005, 2:01am
Im glad to know that Im not the only one having problems..... just yesterday
all the objects I had delted came back again....:( [View Quote] > I have noticed some poor performance as of late as well. Noticed this also last night around 10:00 pm E.S.T.. The delete and not
deleted syndrome. Just in the past month especially. A friend told me last night I did not show online with a check mark even though we were standing talking to each other. Apparently something was lost as I could not see my contacts or worlds list but the friend could see me and chat. I even got curious enough to check my internet connect speed. lady barbaraMar 24, 2005, 11:18am
Just now (8:00am EST) tried to get into AW and found that all I could get
was Cy for Avatars. So I went and deleted AW's cache. Now all I get when I enter AW is blue screen and black triangles. I then went into AWGate where I do GK and found that beyond a certain radius (where I haven't been recently) I was also seeing black triangles! I also checked Teengate and was able to download fine there. In fact, it was my very first time on that world. Have tried a couple of other worlds and wound up having successful downloads. Oh yes, at one point I did have that dratted error #17 I think. Oh yes, I'm on DSL. Wondering, Barbara Eisner aka Lady Barbara [View Quote] tart sugarMar 24, 2005, 3:15pm
I just remembered this, reading Lady Barbara's post. Every once in awhile
lately I'll see at the bottom of my screen "Looking for aw..." AW is the only world in which this happens. I won't be able to click on anything to build. or to even see who a builder is if I go to another's buiild. The only thing I can do is go to another world or come back later. ~ TS [View Quote] matt888Mar 24, 2005, 7:27pm
I also noticed the same delete/reappear problem while in alphaworld.. Whats
up with that? -Matt [View Quote] sw comitMar 24, 2005, 8:14pm
Yea the delete issue is the worst...tried to delete a building. Took it out
7 times, and only managed to delete 2 cells :P I have to have someone else delete it. The problem seems to be per-user. Other worlds work great though, like AWTeen. And no problem with other internet programs either. [View Quote] matt888Mar 25, 2005, 1:02pm
Yes thats right, it seems the only worlds that are having problems are the
Alphaworld ones, and a few private aw-hosted worlds -Matt [View Quote] ferruccioMar 26, 2005, 5:49pm

Uuuuuuuugggghhh getting worse before it gets better. Just finished building
a whole building exterior...bounce, and its all gone. How annoying is that -_- [View Quote] sw comitMar 28, 2005, 4:23am
There it is...weird. I was able to create, edit and delete objects in the
server, but I wasn't able to see them. I restarted AW and there everything was, though, a bit of a mess after trying to recover it from before :P [View Quote] marnieMar 28, 2005, 12:04pm

I find moving things in some places very slow, in others, fine. Does
anyone else get that? sw chrisMar 29, 2005, 3:53am
Ok folks... who here HASNT had a problem with the servers? Just a random
poll. I'm in the midwest and I'm fine. The only problem I had was one night two or three weeks ago. Chris [View Quote] sw comitMar 29, 2005, 4:05am
I been spending a lot of time on AW lately (preparing for the bash and what
not). Litterally about half the time its ok, and the other its barely useable. I emailed AWI about it on the 22nd...no reply *sigh* >_< [View Quote] mauzMar 29, 2005, 10:06am

I haven't been building in AlphaWorld lately, but its property updates
and object downloads work fast for me. Maybe because I am not using it at the heavy load US evening/night times? I'm in Europe with 8 Mbps ADSL. Lately there has also been problems with the uniserver, Customs Aide etc. My forwarding my.activeworlds.com email address hasn't worked for weeks - which has cut my spam down by 99 % hehe, but I have used it for many web registrations so am wondering if I miss essential messages also. I emailed about it on 16th and 27th but no reply. I wonder if Support address is down too? Or then they are too busy maintaining/fixing/building their servers to answer right away. -- Mauz http://mauz.info mauzMar 29, 2005, 6:50pm

Woo got a reply from Support now :) Apparently its IP address just needed changing. -- Mauz http://mauz.info bastillionMar 30, 2005, 2:45am
Hey there,
Since I cannot afford to continue my personal world at this time, I have been spending more time on AlphaWorld (AW). I cannot say that I've experienced any problems with connections, downloads, or even using my Xelabot. I've been doing some drastic building lately, and I'm using the lowest speed cable modem that my ISP provides, which is 112 kbps. I am connecting from Ohio, in the United States, so perhaps being so close to their servers might have something to do with why I don't seem to be affected... dunno. About the only odd thing I have noticed, is that everytime I log in, it almost seems like my cache is refreshing everything.. I don't always start out with triangles, but I have been getting them more often than I remember. Again, that might be that I haven't been using this slow of a connection with AW in awhile.. Oh, I suppose that I could also report that trying to upgrade using the auto-upgrade doesn't work for me.. at this speed, it keeps timing out and dropping my connection. :^p Bastillion, Caretaker for The Bastion (A Gallery of Talented Builders) AW 1206n 7750w www.bastillion.net [View Quote] sw comitMar 30, 2005, 5:02am
From what I've noticed, the lag seems to be per user. I've heard quite a
handful of people now who have been complaining at the lag, but, never at the same time. It sounds as if the server was specifically "ignoring" certain clients. I had an ISP tech came out here today and they didn't really find anything wrong with the lines. We have been having some internet outages lately. But, all other worlds and programs and download speeds are running great (using 1.5 mpbs cable btw). Once again, today, half of the time it was caching regularly, the other half was slow...and by slow I mean like no normal person would wait around that long slow :P During my "regular half", it can't help but notice people who join me complain at the slow cache...hmmm O_o [View Quote] |
